Theology & Technology Mrs. Schmidt
mschmidt@chaminade-stl.org Theology: We are beginning Unit 2 in which we will be studying the great Hebrew Patriarchs: Abraham, Jacob and Joseph. The students will learn that they, too, are being called to a mission to continue the life and work of Jesus. As always, check Canvas for quiz dates and notebook checks. Technology: We are trying to build speed while keyboarding: home keys and practice are the keys to success! Ms. Beth Dunlap, Assistant Principal, shared information regarding academic success at CCP; the students created an Adobe Spark slide show to showcase their creativity and understanding. They are now working on a power point using information that the school nurse shared with them on the topic of good hygiene. Always ask to see the finished product. You will be surprised at their competence! Remember, this is a one-semester course only.
Social Studies

kmug@chaminade-stl.org We completed our study of ancient Egypt this week. I was really impressed with many of the Egyptian Trading Cards the boys created. Next up, we will spend the time between now and Thanksgiving learning about the ancient Israelites. We will also continue to work on our writing and presentation skills.
Science

jkelly@chaminade-stl.org After three weeks of examining viruses and bacteria in science class, we are getting ready to move on to our next topic. We covered lots of interesting (and timely) topics such as the Ebola virus, Covid-19, measles, vaccines, bacteria, and antibiotic resistance. We also discussed some of the interconnectedness of Earth as a system and how global travel and trade makes the spread of any new disease more likely. The classes each developed plans to address the Ebola outbreak that happened in 2015 with the goal of understanding how an epidemiologist would address any public health concern. Finally, we discussed the importance of addressing two significant global threats – climate change and biodiversity loss. Here is the video we discussed if you would like to check it out. We will have a test on Lesson 3-Part 1 (Viruses and Bacteria) on Wednesday and Thursday. As always, if your son ever needs any extra help, my doors are open at 7:35am and he is welcome to come by at any time.

awinebright@chaminade-stl.org MAT 630 – We are diving into the world of decimals! After taking a leap of faith from the safety of whole numbers, decimals have proven to be no match for our courageous young men. Without the safety parachute of a calculator, we have paid special attention to the detail of the decimal point. The boys will have an assessment next week. MAT 650 – Rational numbers are no match for us! Like skilled surgeons, we have performed all the operations on both decimals and fractions, leading us to some very interesting outcomes. The only prescription for what we have is a an assessment next week. Start studying now!
English

tgauvain@chaminade-stl.org We have finished reading, studying, and writing about The River, by Gary Paulsen … Vocab. Unit 3 wrapped up on Oct. 27 & 28. Activities and test for unit 4 will happen soon in class, to be quickly followed by Unit 5 … Our next novel for November through mid-December will be Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. It was wonderful meeting so many parents through the video conferences a few weeks ago, and your sons continue to be fine young men. Thank you for your support. English Student of the Month for September was Mason Wedding. October student of the month for English class will be announced in class after Halloween.

PE & Technology Mr. McCoy
dmccoy@chamiande-stl.org Physical Education: We will continue to exercise outside weather permitting. The students should have warm cloths. We are playing soccer and hope to play outside most days. The boys continue to have health quizzes every other week. This could be a great opportunity to talk about healthy eating. Please have the boys' names on all clothing items. The lost and found is getting full. Technology: We will have the first graded typing test this first week of November. The boys need to type every evening for 15 to 20 minutes to get ready for the test. The new project is very essential at this point. The boys are creating a good hygiene power point. Our school nurse gave a great presentation to the boys. This is a real opportunity to be creative.

manthony@chaminade-stl.org The sixth-grade visual art students learned about a Marianist Artist named Brother Mel Meyer who has artwork in public and private collections all over the world - including our own campus at Chaminade. Brother Mel was influenced by the inherent spiritual ideas and emphasis on the making process within the Abstract Expressionist movement of the mid twentieth century. The students gained insight from Brother Mel’s artwork and gained experience in working from their own ideas in relationship to his style. Their collage paintings are beautiful and have a visual feel that mimics stained glass. Excellent work gentlemen!
Theater

slawrence@chaminade-stl.org In 6th grade Drama, students have finished reading the play The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. We have begun our final unit, which will focus on costume design and special effects onstage. Students will learn the fundamentals of design work, culminating in the creation of a “costume bible” that we will share with one another in class! A reminder that students should work to complete their Final Exam paper, writing about a production they watched online. Resources and guidelines can be found in our Final Exam Module on Canvas.
