PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION DE MAINS DE MAÎTRES LUXEMBOURG

Ten years ago, a conviction began to take shape: exceptional craftsmanship deserved a stage worthy of its talent and its contribution to the cultural and artisanal life of our country. Suppor ted from the very beginning by Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke Guillaume and the Grand Duchess Stéphanie, this vision gave rise to De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg, whose first exhibition was held in 2016 at 19 Liberté in Luxembourg. Since then, De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg has continued to grow. Beyond the Biennial, our association has become a committed advocate for craftsmanship, contemporary craft, and artistic creation, fostering the transmission of savoir‑faire and deepening the connections between creation, culture, and the economy. Our participation in Homo Faber 2026 marks a new milestone. In September, twenty‑seven artisans and artists will present around sixty works at Casa Sanlorenzo in Venice, as part of Fiat Lux. This international presence is one of the highlights of our tenth anniversary and reflects the richness of Luxembourg’s artisanal and artistic creativity.

Craftsmanship is where heritage meets creation, and where excellence becomes a legacy.

I would like to express my gratitude to Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess. Her commitment, her passion for the crafts, and her unwavering support have greatly contributed to the devel opment of De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg. I thank her for believing in this initiative from the very beginning and for continuing to support it as a member of our Board of Directors. My thanks also go to our artistic director, Jean‑Marc Dimanche, whose artistic vision and high standards have shaped the identity of De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg for the past ten years. This presence in Venice is above all a tribute to the artisans and creators whose talent and creativity help Luxembourg shine far beyond its borders. May this new chapter open the way to further exchanges, new inspirations, and new ambitions.

full extent of their expertise and creativity. Through their works, they will explore light in all its forms, demonstrating how materials, gestures, and techniques can capture it, trans form it, and bring it to life.

To celebrate this decade of dedication, the association is extending its reach beyond Luxembourg’s borders and joining the fourth edition of Homo Faber in Venice, a major inter national event devoted to outstanding savoir-faire. From 1 to 30 September 2026, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the artisanal heritage of the Grand Duchy and discover its full breadth at Casa Sanlorenzo.

I am delighted to see that DMDM exhibitions continue to attract an ever-growing audience and to shine a spotlight, beyond our borders, on the excellence of artistic crafts and fine craftsmanship.

“Fiat Lux” — let there be light — is the theme chosen by De Mains de Maîtres Luxembourg for this inaugural exhibition. A particularly sym bolic choice, as Venice, birthplace of Murano glass and its centuries-old artisanal traditions, offers an ideal setting to celebrate the encoun ter between light, material, and creation. The artisans selected to represent Luxembourg at this globally significant event will reveal the

I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to the general curator, Jean-Marc Dimanche and his entire team, for their remarkable com mitment and unwavering dedication to these exceptional skills throughout the past decade. My gratitude also goes to all those who, through their talent, passion, and high standards, keep these invaluable crafts alive and evolving. May this anniversary pave the way for a new decade marked by creativity, excellence, and transmission, carried forward by the passion of those who shape our heritage.

Craftsmanship is far more than the mastery of a technique. It is the ability to transform an idea into something tangible, to combine precision with creativity, and to give lasting value to mate rials through knowledge, experience and the human hand. For Luxembourg, craftsmanship is an essential part of our economy and our identity. It represents quality, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, while preserving skills passed on from one generation to the next. Our artisans demonstrate every day that tradition and modernity are not opposites: they enrich one another and open the way to new forms, uses and markets. The participation of De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg in Homo Faber 2026 is therefore a milestone. By bringing the exhibition Fiat Lux to Venice, the association offers Luxembourg’s craftsmanship an exceptional international platform. The works presented at Casa Sanlorenzo reveal the diversity of materials, techniques and creative approaches that characterise the Luxembourgish artisan community. They also

show how strongly craftsmanship contributes to the country’s visibility and reputation abroad. International promotion is not only about show casing excellence. It creates connections, encourages collaboration and gives artisans access to new audiences and opportunities. In a world increasingly shaped by standardisation, these unique works remind us of the value of individuality and excellence in execution. The Government has supported De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg since its creation in 2016. On its tenth anniversary, I congratulate the association and all participating artisans on this achievement. Their presence in Venice reflects the talent, ambition and international outlook of Luxembourg’s craft sector. I wish Fiat Lux every success and hope that it will inspire many visitors to discover the strength and creativity of Luxembourg craftsmanship.

In the 2026 edition of Homo Faber, under the artistic direction of Es Devlin, light becomes both theme and guide, illuminating the excel lence of the Luxembourgish artisans selec ted for Fiat Lux, the exhibition enriching Homo Faber in Città. This radiance is already present in its title, Lux — in Latin, like Homo Faber, evoking the origins of a shared cultural heri tage. It also pays tribute to the Grand Duchy itself, Luxembourg: a place at the heart of Europe that carries light in its very name. To offer visibility, to bring forth clarity, to nurture the work of master artisans: this is the mission that Homo Faber and De Mains de Maîtres Luxembourg uphold together, a mission that, through this collaboration, gains renewed strength and resonance. In this way, light continues to remind us of the guiding star that leads our efforts: the enduring cen trality of human talent.

Light renders the soil fertile, life possible, and beauty visible.

Tom Flick To exhibit in Venice is to immerse oneself in a world of water and sky, to lose oneself among its canals and to wander through its countless bridges and narrow alleyways. Here, like nowhere else, light fragments, glides across the water, plays with materials, and seems to converse with time. Artistic craftsmanship is rooted in this same intimate relationship, this same slow and imperceptible evolution: born of a gesture as precise as it is precious, passed down through the centuries and endlessly reinvented. If the Age of Enlightenment laid the foundations for a worldview centred on reason and progress, it also established a critical relationship to the world, built on observation, experimentation, and the questioning of inherited knowledge. Within this intellectual landscape, the artisan held a central place: that of a producer of knowl edge through and with matter. Today, this lega cy takes on renewed relevance in a very different context, one marked by acceleration, demate rialisation, and a growing loss of reference points and contact with the very processes of making. The works we have chosen to exhibit embrace the gesture as an act of resistance. In the face

of automation and seemingly limitless repro ducibility, they assert themselves through their singularity, their irregularities, and the slowness with which they were conceived and crafted. Here, light is neither a simple source of illumi nation nor a decorative element; it challenges the object by revealing the tensions and rough ness that constitute its richness, and the shad ows that preserve its mystery. It becomes a critical tool that exposes the materiality of making and renders visible the singular time contained in each gesture. Thus, to celebrate Venice alongside Homo Faber, we wished to bring together more than sixty works and objects of exceptional quality creat ed by some of the Grand Duchy’s most accom plished artisans, revealing the singularity and richness of artisanal savoir-faire. The Casa San Lorenzo became the natural setting for this unprecedented contemporary cabinet of curi osities, a place where the hand illuminates matter, and where matter, in return, elegantly illuminates the way we inhabit the world.

By depicting ruderal plants, the work celebrates the resilience of living organisms and their ability to adapt to the transformations of our environment. EN

EN Stefania Staltari, a Luxembourgish architect and artist with Italian roots, has developed a sensitive approach to ceramics that reflects her dual foundation in technical rigour and creative exploration. Graduated in Germany and now active in Luxembourg, she has recently chosen to complement her professional career with art education, reconnecting with a freer and more intuitive form of expression. This is reflected in her hand-built stoneware vases, created without the use of a potter’s wheel, through a direct and authentic dialogue with the material.

Marianne Steinmetzer, a Luxembourgish ceramist based in Bridel, left the business world to devote herself to porcelain, her preferred material, whose bisque-like, unglazed appear ance appeals to her. Trained in throwing and moulding through internships and masterclass es abroad, she has developed a delicate practice combining functionality with playful aesthetics. Each piece is moulded, assembled, coated with coloured slip, then decorated with a brush or stencil, eroded to give relief to the pattern, sanded and fired at high temperature.

Malou Tibor, a self-taught ceramic artist born in Luxembourg, creates a poetic universe, where plants become sculptors and porcelain serves as a medium for expressing the elusive beauty of nature. At the heart of her work lies the imprint of flowers, the memory of living things revealed through porcelain. She coats withered flowers and other botanical elements in liquid porcelain before attaching them to her sculptures. After firing, only the imprint of the organic matter remains. Fire does not destroy life; it reveals it’s memory. EN

SCULPTOR

FR

To celebrate its anniversary, De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg is opening a new chap ter in its history with an international exhibition program. This ambitious cycle begins this September in Italy with a first event taking place at Casa Sanlorenzo in Venice, created in partnership with Homo Faber, the Michelangelo Foundation, and Sanlorenzo Arts. Venice: a city steeped in artistic heritage and long considered a crossroads of cultural influences, offers an ideal setting for this opening gesture. Beginning here is no coin cidence: it signals a conscious desire to engage with major international art scenes, in a place

The cycle will culminate in November 2027 with the sixth edition of the Biennale at the prestigious 19Liberté in Luxembourg City. An edition envisioned as exceptional, worthy of this celebratory year. This final moment brings the journey back home, closing the circle while opening new horizons for the future.

This trajectory embodies a renewed ambition: to create dialogue between territories, cultures, and craftsmanship, and to honour a decade of dedication to creation. Each event is a milestone, each place a resonance, each encounter a light along the path. We look forward to sharing this rich journey with you.
