n May 19 -May 21 Rochester is celebrating the born day and legacy of the great Malcolm X ; uplifting his life and legacy that has been overlooked for far too long. Now is the time to honor Malcolm, a human rights activist who was a powerful and prominent vocal advocate for Black empowerment. He was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. The three-days of events will take place in Rochester and include: Thursday May 19 •Malcolm X Scholarship Day, 1-9 p.m., Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, 140 E. This group is now known as the Friends of Malcolm Roc. The purpose of the event, say organizers, is to celebrate Malcolm's life as a modern-day means of empowering our people though his legacy. They add they would like to make it an annual event not only in Rochester, but throughout the country like Martin Luther King Day. There is still a need for volunteers, resources and funds. Henry Louis Gates City Extends Deadline for Civilian Public Jr. Calls for Frederick Safety Interview Panel Douglass’ Face on US The City is continuing to accept applications from Currency Bill city residents interested in serving on the Civilian PubHenry Louis Gates Jr., a Harvard historian and cultural entrepreneur, is fighting to preserve the ageless core of abolitionist and Black writer Frederick Douglass. Douglass’ face should be on a US currency bill, he says. According to Axios, the renowned literary critic says Douglass’ legacy, which dates back to the 1800s, is still important to the United States today. “Frederick Douglass has assumed his place not only as one of America’s great orators, but also as one of the writers of the nineteenth century,” Gates said. Douglass was honored with a commemorative quarter in 2017. He was pictured sitting at a desk, with his home in Southeast Washington, D.C., in the background. The procedure of placing him on a bill, on the other hand, would normally take far longer than a commission for coins. According to Axios, studying, designing, and introducing new anticounterfeit procedures for banking systems might take several years, if not decades.

Columnist/Activist Howard Eagle Responds to Controversy Involving Rochester Teacher Who Reportedly Told Students To Pick Cotton During A Lesson On Slavery

(Ed Note: A teacher in Rochester was recently placed on leave and is being investigated after parents said he told students to pick cotton during a lesson on slavery, school district officials said. Parents of seventh-grade students at the Rochester School of the Arts said that Patrick Rausch, a social studies teacher who is white, gave balls of cotton to his students on Tuesday and instructed them to pick the seeds out. When none of the students expressed having difficulty picking out the seeds he told them it was OK so did their ancestors parents also said Mr. Rausch referred to himself as “massah” and allowed White students to stop cleaning the cotton when they asked, but not Black students.

The students and parents who reported the recent cotton-picking debacle deserve much praise and support. By coming forward, they have presented this community with yet another golden opportunity to make a serious, action-oriented statement to the effect that racism really won't be tolerated in the RCSD, nor the broader Rochester and/or Monroe County community. The "action" part is critical. It can't be a matter of just more short-lived rhetoric and noise. The parents of both students who have come forward reportedly want mister Rausch fired, and stripped of his teaching license. This would be an excellent way of demonstrating (concretely) that we really are serious when we say racism, and abuse of our children will not be tolerated in the RCSD.

It's most interesting to note that the man whom many consider as being the real RCSD superintendent, mister Adam Urbanski, initially claimed that he "could not comment" on the situation. However, later the same day the cat turned Urbanski's tongue loose, and he decided that he could make a public statement about this after all. He was quoted as having said: "While we believe very strongly in due process and the right to an existing lawful protocol, we do not defend the indefensible,Urbanski said. If someone departs from what they should be doing, they should suffer the consequences, but due process has to be allowed first. Every good educator knows that what is the right lesson for a student includes taking into consideration who the students are, Urbanski said. That's common sense. That's common decency." It's important for us to understand that __ Urbanski didn't sit down and do some sort of deep reflection that caused him to change his mind about commenting. On the contrary, being the slick politician and supporter of racism and racist teachers that he is __ he saw community support was growing for the brave students and parents, and that this was fast becoming a national issue. The political handwriting was on the wall. He knew that he HAD to say something __ because this was not going to be the norm by which similar situations get swept under the old, proverbial rug, all the time. So once again, it is our desire, our hope, our prayer that this will not be another missed opportunity to impact the tripartite beast and illness of individual, institutional, and structural racism in concrete, significant, measurable ways via mister Rausch's termination, and at least suspension, if not revocation of his teaching license, in addition to reinvigoration of the struggle to bring about deadly-serious, ongoing, anti-racist education for ALL RCSD employees .

As one who has been a certified 7-12 Social Studies teacher for 35 years, and former provisionally certified school administrator, I can assure you that folks like mister Rausch are NOT good for the profession. He really does need to go. Yet, we should not delude ourselves by thinking or believing, as one of our leaders has pointed out, that Rausch is a "lone wolf." He is not. Let's talk about it. As the popular rhetoric goes __there's a lot to so-called "unpack."

Canisius Appoints Fields New VP for Student Affairs Canisius College announces the appointment of Harold O. Fields, EdD, as the new vice president for student affairs and dean of students at the college. Fields is currently director of residence life at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Fields holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in student affairs in higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a doctor of education degree in higher education administration from the University of Rochester. He will begin his position at the college in mid-July, 2022.

other’s Day just passed, and it is the time that we honor the women in our lives for the sacrifices they’ve made. There’s no shortage of sacrifice that has been made by Cariol Horne, a native of Buffalo and a mother to the community. It’s been over a year since NY Supreme Court Judge Dennis Ward vacated the courts previous ruling in the case of the fired Buffalo Police Officer, but she has yet to receive her pension and back pay. Horne has spent years working on the streets of Buffalo, two decades as a police officer and more than a decade as an activist working to overturn the very system that waged war against her. It was in 2006 that Horne arrived at the scene at Neal Mack’s home, responding to an officer in distress call. What she found was the complete opposite. Horne entered the home to find Officer Gregory Kwiatkowski repeatedly punching Mack in the face. She was able to usher Kwiatkowski and Mack outside where Kwiatkowski then placed Mack in a chokehold while handcuffed. Horne heard Mack cry out “I can’t

Cariol Horne dominated national headlines in 2021 when, after her 13-year fight to win her pension, NY Supreme Court Judge Ward vacated the courts previous ruling awarding Horne nearly two years of service that qualified her for back pay and access to her pension. Upon the news, Kwiatkowski’s defamation suit, that Horne was unable to pay , was renewed and it was adjusted for interest at over $44,000 - bringing her total amount owed to Kwiatkowski to be over $100,000 ($20,000 has been paid)! Today, Kwiatkowski is no longer a Police officer after he served four months of jail time and an additional year of supervised release for his conviction of excessive force and the violation of civil rights from an unrelated case. The details of the case are disturbing, as it was found that he referred to a group of four Black teenagers as “savage dogs” as he accused them of “shooting BB guns at White kids,” prior to assaulting them one by one and slamming their heads into the police car. Horne on the other hand, has a clean disciplinary record and has never been suspended. She uses her platform to continue to advocate for the very real issues of police brutality and mass

In December 2021 Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation (S.7209/A.8026) which grants Horne retroactive access to her pension stating, "New York owes Cariol Horne a debt of gratitude for her service to the Buffalo community and for her bravery in a moment of crisis." Several calls have been made to the office of Buffalo Comptroller Barbara Miller-Williams by Horne and others, to help bring resolution to her missing funds. Horne is awaiting correspondence from Miller-Williams directly, as other communications have been forwarded to city payroll or the state pension fund with no resolution. The Muslim society of Buffalo has partnered with the crowd funding platform Launch Good to fundraise for Horne to help alleviate some of the financial burden Horne is faced with. When questioned about the fundraiser, a spokesperson for the Mosque is quoted “as a Muslim, it’s our responsibility to stand up for the oppressed. Our Sister Cariol is in this position because she was courageous, and we see it as our responsibility to help provide for her in any way that we can.”

ROOTS The trans-Atlantic slave trade was the largest movement of people in history. Between 10 and 15 million Africans were forcibly transported across the Atlantic between 1500 and 1900. But this figure grossly understates the actual number of Africans enslaved, killed, or displaced as a result of the slave trade. Of the enslaved Africans who arrived in the United States, nearly half came from two regions: Senegambia, the area comprising the Senegal and Gambia Rivers and the land between them, or today’s Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Mali; and west-central Africa, including what is now Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon. The Gambia River, running from the Atlantic into Africa, was a key waterway for the slave trade; at its height, about one out of every six West African enslaved people came from this area. In addition to the nearly 50 percent of the total number of enslaved Africans in the United States from these two regions, a considerable number of enslaved people had their origins in the West African nation of Ghana, as well as neighboring parts of the Windward Coast, now Ivory Coast. Others originated in the Bight of Biafra (including parts of presentday eastern Nigeria and Cameroon), an inlet of the Atlantic on Africa’s western coast that was a hub of extensive slave-dealing operations.

The Buffalo Common Council has released "A Citizens Guide to Understanding the City Budget," a comprehensive and reader-friendly document outlining the budget workflow, components of the city budget, and where to locate the 2022-23 proposed budget online. It also reviews how to find each department's budget, how to understand summary statements and revenue sources, and the budget modification process. This document is meant to guide citizens in preparation for upcoming public hearings which began this week. Homegoing Services For Judith Clark September 3, 1935 - April 24, 2022

n September 3, 1935, Judith was the first child born to William and Thelma Clark in Buffalo, NY. She grew up and attended public schools in Buffalo and college at the University of Buffalo. The family attended the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Buffalo, which remains the family’s place of worship today. Judith and Luther Burnette married and went on to have 3 children: Michele Lynn, William Lawrence “Larry” and Lisa Diane. As years passed, they were divorced. Judith later met and married Paul Herbert and the family resided in Williamson, NY (Wayne County). They divorced in 1970. Judith and the children relocated to Henrietta, NY and Rochester, NY where they reside today. Judith actively supported her children in sports, musical and academic endeavors, and church participation. She was active in politics and grass roots community efforts in both Wayne County and in Rochester, NY. Judith also had an extensive background in Sales/Marketing, Management and Operations. Her hobbies included working crossword puzzles in ink, watching political shows, bowling and tennis. Judith was a pioneer in computer technology. She wired the computer boards at Channel 13, was one of the first Black female systems engineers at IBM and was a senior systems analyst at Xerox Corporation. She was a data processing instructor at SUNY Brockport. Judith also was selfemployed as the General Manager/Owner-Operator of 3 businesses. Judith took great pride in being a grandmother, and being “Grammie” to Austen and Andrew was the highlight of her life. Judith attended many seminars and workshops to learn about autism and financially supported Autism organizations. Judith passed peacefully on April 24, 2022. To celebrate her life, Judith is survived by siblings Dennis (Clara, dec.) Clark and Barry Clark; son Larry Burnette, daughters Michele Burnette and Lisa Burnette Adkins; grandsons Austen Adkins and Andrew Adkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. She is predeceased by her mother Thelma Grinage Clark, her father William Laurence Clark, her sister Elaine (Herbert, dec.) Clark Blyden and her brother David (Constance) Clark. EID AL FITRCELEBRATING THE END Of THE BLESSED MONTH OF RAMADAN By Imam Fajri Ansari Masjid Nu’Man n Monday May 2nd, Muslims from around the world celebrated the conclusion of the fasting month of Ramadan.There are two main Holidays for over 1 billion Muslims around the world. The Eid al Fitr which commemorates the completion of the fast during the Blessed Month of Ramadan. The other is the Eid al Adha which commemorates the end of the pilgrimage season to Mecca. The word Eid means “reoccurring happiness”, it keeps coming back. All Muslims who are in good health (physically and mentally), not travelling, women who are not pregnant, nursing or on their cycles, are obligated to fast for 29 or 30 days. The completion of the fast is a great victory for the individual who have disciplined themselves during the month by practicing self-restraint. Muslims focus on the remembrance of their Lord while abstaining from food, drink, sexual relations and bad behavior from sunrise to sunset. The longer the fast the more opportunities to perform good deeds and chances to atone for previous sins. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that “anyone who completes the fast of Ramadan will have all of their sins of the previous year forgiven.” It’s a great victory and celebration that’s designed to set a pattern for living throughout the year. Ramadan strengthens one’s personal relationship with their Lord. Only Allah (G-d) knows for sure if you are keeping your fast. Being peaceful, not arguing, fighting or indulging in prohibitive behavior is as much of the fast as ab-

he PAPPY MARTIN LEGACY JAZZ Collective recently presented The Love Supreme School of Music Spring Showcase featuring its students. It was an outstandingly excellent and opportune moment for the community to share in the legacy of James “Pappy” Martin that is being carried forth by his daughter, Ms. Dawn Martin Berry-Walker and family, with an eclectic base of outstanding musicians, and supporters. Musical selections included: Route 66, Money Can’t Buy Everything, Waltz for Debbie, Mozart Minuet No. 1 in G Major, My One and Only Love, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and ended with the foot stomping and swinging, “When the Saints Go Marching In.” The program was presented at Lincoln Memorial United Methodist Church, 461 Masten Avenue, the home base of the Love Supreme School of Music. The Love Supreme School founded in 2003 by James “Pappy” Martin, who left this earth in 2015, has not deviated from the goals and standards set by the founder. Love Supreme provides instrumental and vocal music instruction. Its objective is to engage underserved members of the community, especially school age children with instruction from professional musicians. Through the study of music students receive exposure to creative and “out of the box” thinking as reasonable thought considerations when faced with academic and social challenges. The school’s motto is: Educate, Enlighten, and Empower. The following programs are yearly: the Pappy Martin Legacy Jazz Festival: Martin L. King Park, Sunday, July 24 and 31, 2022 (3p.m.-8p.m.). The Celestial Jazz Series featuring internationally acclaimed musicians and singers is co-hosted throughout the year at a church. The Legacy has been honoring jazz icon John Coltrane since the 1980s, now at BurchfieldPenny Art Center. In 2022, the Betty Carter Birthday Celebration will become an addition to the yearly events list this year on May 14 at Antioch Baptist Church. Meet Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals President Mark A. Overall Mark Overall is a Buffalo native who returned in 2018 with one mission in mind: to give back to the community that raised him. Since August 2021 Mark has served as President of the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals, a unique entity of the Buffalo Urban League designed to serve as an empowerment forum for individuals compromised primarily in the age range of 21 to 40 Mark Overall living in Buffalo. He is an active member of Emerging Philanthropists of Color, a Board Member of the Bennett High School Alumni Association, a founding member of Pushin Pieces Chess Club, and a Buffalo Urban League Youth Mentor. He currently serves as a Community Outreach Specialist where he acts as a liaison between the public, utility companies, and local residents to make sure communication is open and transparent between these groups and that all regulatory and compliance requirements are met in relation to pending and future energy and utility related construction projects. Karine Jean-Pierre Will Make History as the New White House Press Secretary

On May 5, President Joe Biden announced that Karine Jean-Pierre will be taking over for Jen Psaki as White House press secretary, making her the first Black woman and open member of the LGBTQ+ community to hold the position. She will step into the role on May 13. She becomes the first Black and openly gay woman to serve as the White House press secretary. In May 2021, Jean-Pierre became the first Black woman in 30 years to address the press in the White House briefing room. Jean-Pierre, who has served as Jen Psaki’s Karine Jean-Pierre (who she is replacing) top deputy since the start of the administration, will immediately become the public face of the Biden White House and the first Black person to hold the high-profile job of delivering the president’s daily message and fielding questions from an often skeptical press corps. Jean-Pierre was born in the French Caribbean to Haitian parents. She was raised in the borough of Queens in New York City and attended the New York Institute of Technology. She later received her MPA from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. She was briefly a lecturer at the School of International affairs beginning in 2014. She’s a mom. Jean-Pierre and her partner, journalist Suzanne Malveaux, share an eight-year-old daughter.

Women’s March 2022: Solidarity, Victory, & Healing!!

ome join us Sunday, May 15 (1-3p.m.), to celebrate Victorious Women’s Month with a march and gathering that will foster universal Solidarity, rejoice in our Victories, and foster real Healing in ourselves and our community. We’ll meet on Niagara Street at the intersection with Lafayette (please aim for 12:45p.m.) and march down Niagara (starting 1pm) to the foot of Ferry. We’ll gather in Broderick Park with speakers, performers, and a family area – all we need to celebrate, acknowledge, and validate wonderful victorious women in our community. We’ll also explore the vast and brewing injustices in our society – thus the need for Solidarity and Victory; as well as our paths to Victory and Healing. Women – and all in our community – are in need of Solidarity, Victory, and Healing!! Local sheros who’ll speak include Gail Wells, Cariol Horne, Betty Jean Grant, Gamileh Jamil, Talia Rodriguez, and many more, with spoken word and musical offerings interspersed. Children and youth will share projects, including PeaceJam Buffalo, and families are encouraged to enjoy the special Family Area. We’ll also start with a traditional Gnonyoh – Thanks-giving – from Jill Clause, Tuscarora. The WNY Peace Center has organized the Women’s March since 2017, when 3600-4000 gathered in Niagara Square. The following year we had almost 5,000; then a blizzard cancellation followed by two years of 65mph galeforce winds – with hundreds still coming out!! We also held a Women’s March in 10/20 (with physical distancing), and a virtual march in 1/21 due to the Covid. This year Executive Director Deidra EmEl opted to celebrate during Victorious Women’s Month, the month of May - a great improvement. Each year the principles and the Spirit shine brighter. Our mission statement, arrived by consensus of women community leaders in WNY, states: “The Women's March of WNY, opposed to all forms of oppression, seeks to increase equity and equality for women and all oppressed people. Muslims are required to read the Qur’an during the month of Ramadan and read the whole of the book by the end of Ramadan.” Eid al Fitr we celebrate a return to the original nature created by G-d in every human being. During Ramadan Muslims are to strengthen their relationship with G-d. When G-d says to Muhammad (pbuh) in the Qur’an 2:186 “When my servants ask about Me, tell them I am near. Tell them I hear the caller who calls on Me, and I respond, therefore let them also Listen to My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way.” Eid al Fitr is a happy occasion. It is a victory of cleansing and returning to one’s original nature. A nature of innocence with sincere regardfulness for The Creator of all the worlds. Fasting helps keeps a person balance by controlling their appetites by not going to extremes. As Muslims we are not supposed to impose our own ideas and life style on people, especially if it’s not supported by The Quran and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Qur’an states 2:256 “Let there be no compulsion in religion, truth stands out clearly from error.” The Muslim duty is only to invite people to faith; 16:125 “Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching.” The Eid celebration will take place for a period of three days. Muslim families celebrate sharing gifts and good times with their relatives and friends. A special effort is also made to ensure the needy will be provided for and share in the celebrations! Charity collected prior to the prayers said on Eid day are to be distributed to the needy for their families. We pray for peace and ask for G-ds Mercy upon all our brothers and sisters that make up the human family. Let not the enemies of all people and faiths divide us by focusing our differences rather then what have more in common. This year on Eid Day we were able to distribute 130 bags of groceries to the needy and community. We pray that our contribution will be helpful knowing that The Lord who has Dominion over everything expresses His Love for all His servants. His Mercy exceeds His Wrath, and He is The Judge of us all! Blessed Eid and G-ds Peace to everyone!

Why Always Our Community?

was recently informed that a methadone clinic is scheduled to be placed in the Kensington/ Eggert neighborhood. Council Member Rasheed Wyatt has stated that he was unaware that the state had already decided to place a methadone clinic in his district (University) in the plaza. The community members that were present at a recent meeting were very upset that action was taken without the residents being informed. There is a methadone clinic on Main St. and Bryant Ave. There is also one on Leroy and Holden Ave. Why are methadone clinics being placed in Black communities without the consensus of the Black community? A retired Black Navy veteran stated this is always done in the Black communities. Residents were shocked to hear that it was a done deal. The veteran expresed concern about the safety of other veterans, his grandchildren and the community. He stated that he finds it very difficult to accept the fact that the council member was unaware of this methadone clinic being placed in the neighborhood in which he lives. It is amazing how quickly all these back door dealings take place behind the backs of the Black community. This methadone clinic is not wanted in the suburbs for two quick reasons: first the residents don’t want their property value decreasing. Secondly they don’t want their neighbors to know that their child is an addict. So now its up to the entire neighborhood in zip code 14215 to stand up as tax paying citizens and homeowners and tell our elected officials that we’re fed up , even thoiugh they're saying its a done deal. To the people of the 14215 neighborhood FIGHT, FIGHT AND FIGHT ON. No Methadone Clinic in my neighborhood!

Newly Created Flag for The Sixth Region of Africa: The Diaspora On July 9th, 2002, Ghanaian President, John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor and his delegation attended The OAU Summit held in Durban, South Africa. At that historic gathering, the name was changed from Organization of Africa Unity (OAU) to the African Union (AU) beginning a new and exciting chapter for Africa’s development. Discussions surrounding the state of African Affairs and the means of progress was on the table when Dr. Erieka Bennett, a Diaspora residing in Ghana, asked President Kufour about the role of the Diaspora in the development of Africa and her future. This profound question sparked a nerve and President Kufuor was moved to recommend to the President of the Commission at that time, President Abdoulaye Wade, that the Diaspora as a constituency and re-source, must be included in all considerations regarding the progress of Africa. So moved by the enormity of the prospect of the support and importance of the millions of Africa’s children residing outside of Africa, President Wade echoed the sentiment and declared to the floor of the General Assembly that the Diaspora should be considered the "6th Region of Africa". History will record that at that seminal moment in the womb of time, Dr. Bennett’s question, answered by President Kufuor's suggestion to President Wade, gave rise to the concept and principle of "The Sixth Region of Africa". It is now cited in scholarly journals and is for a certainty a recognized and respected designation for the Diaspora. The Sixth Region designation recognizes that the Diaspora are part and parcel of the present and future of Africa. On February 2, 2022 a global audience beheld a tangible sign and symbol of the presence and participation of the Diaspora in African Affairs, when the Diaspora African Forum (DAF officially launched the newly created flag for The Sixth Region of Africa: The Diaspora. The various Diaspora groups and organizations all around the world also launched the flag at their various locations throughout the 28 days celebration of during black history month in February. This momentous occasion was the culmination of the vision, sacrifices, courage and efforts of many luminaries. What began as a longing, has now found the substantive embrace of many African Nations. The flag shall fly as the herald to the Diaspora throughout the world. This amazing 6th region flag will fly as both a legacy of great men and women and mark yet another chapter in the forward march of the continent. The flag is the design of renown Development Architect, Professor Kwame Addo. Professor Ad-do has designed both currencies and national symbols for South American nations as well erected historic landmarks throughout the world. His powerful design beautifully captures the history and future of the Diaspora in Africa. The power and solemnity of the flag fits perfectly with the ensemble of the other 5 regional flags. February 2, 2022 was an incredible moment in history that has been a long time coming and, on that day, all of the men and women – known and unknown who for many years worked tirelessly and sacrificially to see that day were recognized and celebrated. And while the act of hoisting the 6th Region Flag was ceremonial, it marked an undeniable juncture in history where the past meets the future. It marked an awakening. It celebrates the struggles of the past and recognizes the more than 200 million African Diaspora who are connected to Africa – spiritually, emotionally, physically and commits us all to a direction and course of action for the sustainable development of our beloved Africa.

Professionals specializing in mental health are white-collar workers who generally are under-compensated despite their impact being essential to society functioning. Everyone has had a difficult time the last couple of years because of the pandemic. However, mothers and professionals specializing in mental health have had it the worst. Childcare and women’s health were issues before the pandemic. However, during

There Victoria Golden was a significant increase in depression and anxiety because of the isolation and uncertainty surrounding coronavirus. Buffalo Bills Getting Serious in This Year’s NFL Free Agency for Season

he main goal of the Buffalo Bills front office in the 2022 NFL Draft was to add a decent Cornerback and linebacker to the team. Bills General Manager Brandon Beane and Head Coach Sean McDermott were on point due to an outstanding Scouting Department headed by Malik Boyd Senior Director of Pro Scouting. The Bills selected in the first Round Kaiir Elam, cornerback out of University of Florida. He’s 5’11 199 pounds and play physical. The Leslie Frazier defensive scheme of zone will allow Elam to settle in at the Defensive Back position. Keep in mind the Bills have Dane Jackson starting opposite Tre Davisous White. Currently and hopefully White can bounce back from ACL knee surgery. If White is delayed from returning at the start of season than we might get to see more of Elam, who has played against the top receivers in the country during his college years in the South Eastern Conference. The Bills drafted Georgia running back James Cook in the second round. He’s a very explosive back that can give the Bills plenty of yards after the catch. Said cook: ” I’m versatile, you know. I can separate myself in the backfield and line up out wide and make the deep threats. And take the deep shots and go deep and score touchdowns. That’s what they’re getting in me - a touchdown maker.” WOW! This rookie is calling himself the touchdown maker already! Let’s hope his premonition comes true as a Buffalo Bill. His older brother running back Dalvin Cook has done very well for the Minnesota Vikings, so the DNA is certainly in place. The Bills took a much-needed linebacker in Baylor University Terrell Bernard. , “I feel like I can do multiple things in the run game and then in coverage wise as well,” said Bernard. “ I’m energetic and give 100% effort, I take pride in that.” The Bills must make a decision on starting middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds at the end of the season. The Bills selected wide receiver Khalil Shakir out of Boise State, who can definitely stretch the field. I really like Bills next selection of Punter Matt Araiza from San Diego State . Araiza could put pressure on Bills current Punter Matt Haack, who was terrible in his first season with the Bills. Hopefully Araiza can hold the football correctly for field goal kicker Tyler Bass, and get some hang time under his punts in order to make the team. The Bills took corner back Christian Benford out of University of Villanova at 6 feet tall . He could be an asset in Leslie Frazier defensive scheme. The Bills selected Virginia Tech 6’8 offensive lineman Luke Tenuta, who could end up on practice squad because Luke can play both guard and tackle positions. The Bills closed out the 2022 draft by selecting linebacker Baylon Spector from Clemson. It’s going to be a very entertaining Training Camp to see where these rookies fall into place. The Bills filled some needed positions and gave themselves more depth at other positions. The key man behind the scenes making the last five years of bring in quality football players has been Malik Boyd, Senior Director of Pro Scouting. Malik played college football at Southern University under legendary Head Coach Pete Richardson and was starting cornerback on the resurgence of Southern Jaguars football team. Mr. Boyd also comes from the Scouting Tree of legendary Scout and Civil Rights leader John Wooten. Malik Boyd is joined by Terrance Gray, Assistant Director of Player personnel, and Lake Dawson, Assistant Director of College Scouting in the Buffalo Bills front office. Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother was the National recording secretary for the Marcus Garvey Movement which commanded millions of followers in the 1920s and 30s. His father was a Baptist minister and chapter president of The Universal Negro Improvement Association who appealed to President Hoover that Marcus Garvey was wrongfully arrested. Earl’s civil rights activism prompted death threats from the white supremacist organization Black Legion, forcing the family to relocate twice before Malcolm’s fourth birthday. Regardless of the Little’s efforts to elude the Legion, in 1929 their Lansing, Michigan home was burned to the ground. Two years later, Earl’s body was found lying across the town’s trolley tracks.
