THE ST. CLAIR SHORES PUBLIC LIBRARY IS GETTING A $1.5 MILLION UPDATE. The St. Clair Shores Public Library is in for a significant renovation thanks to a $1.5 million federal grant from the Office of Community Planning and Development. The Community Project Funding Grant allows the library to better serve its patrons by transforming the user experience within the building. The library plans to expand its youth services area, create a makerspace, and update technology. The library looks forward to the makerspace becoming a magnet for the community. A makerspace is a collaborative workspace used to make, learn, explore, and share with others. This area will promote individual growth and entrepreneurship, leading to innovations and becoming a source of new ideas, goods, services, and businesses within our community.

This renovation will also include a new genealogy room, a new Friends of the Library bookstore, a new circulation desk, and a dedicated teen space. The renovated expansion of the youth services room will allow children to explore the world around them through hands-on activities, books, and research. These various activities will allow us to support literacy and allow children to learn while having fun in a safe space. Currently, there is no start date for the renovation. Anyone interested in following the work can find updates through the library newsletter, published every two months with new programs and events, on the library website at www.scslibrary.org, on their social media pages, and through city council sessions.
