This year-long virtual book study invites educators to deepen their understanding of foundational literacy instruction for multilingual learners (MLs). Together, we’ll unpack research-based practices, connect them to classroom application, and reflect on how literacy development intersects with language acquisition.
Participants Will Learn To: Understand foundational literacy skills through the lens of MLs’ needs Apply research-based strategies from the text to everyday practice Reflect on their own instruction and collaborate with peers to refine approaches Plan literacy supports aligned to Act 20 and multilingual contexts

Act 20 requires all administrators of K-3 and district reading specialists to attend literacy training focused on the systematic implementation of curriculum and practices that meet the definition of the Science of Reading. Learn about the connection between reading research, theoretical models, and best practices for language and literacy instruction. Review and reflect on the current curriculum and practices in your schools. Acquire tools to guide you in conducting walkthroughs and look-fors in your buildings. Learn to work closely with coaches and staff to implement the highest quality literacy instruction. Develop assessment and intervention systems to target students in need of support. Participants will work collaboratively to strengthen their understanding of test administration of this large-scale annual assessment, the underpinnings of the assessment, and the resources available after the workshop. Resources will be shared with participants, which will set themselves up to be ready when the testing window opens. Participants should make sure they have access to the WIDA website. This will allow them to complete the required assessment to receive the certification needed to administer the ACCESS test.

WiMLSS-Behavior Universal Booster
Team members (new or existing) on previously trained and implementing teams, new administrators on implementing teams, previously trained teams wanting to refresh their Universal systems. This 1 day training helps participants review key concepts of their Universal WiMLSS-Behavior system (PBIS) and consider system enhancements and revisions to help meet the needs of ALL students. This training is designed specifically for buildings with previous training experience and at least some implementation of Tier 1 Behavior supports. Completion or commitment to complete a WiMLSS Framework training is required to participate in this offering.
