MEET THIS WEEK’S VALUED TEAM MEMBER

I am currently in my second year as an itinerant school-based physical therapist for CESA 7. My role is to assist students who may have physical difficulties accessing the school environment or participating in school activities due to difficulty with gross motor skills. I also collaborate with and coach staff and teachers on ways to incorporate movement and positioning equipment into a student’s daily routine. Prior to joining the CESA 7 team, I worked in healthcare.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College, then went on to complete my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at The University of Iowa. This is currently my 10th year as a physical therapist.

Outside of work, I am a proud spouse and parent of 3 daughters, the oldest of whom is in kindergarten. We enjoy spending time as a family playing games, being outdoors, and reading together.

I am grateful to be part of such a supportive CESA 7 itinerant team, and have enjoyed the switch to school-based practice where I get to work with many dedicated teachers and staff members. Thank you to my districts who have welcomed me, and I look forward to continuing to work together to serve our students.

PARTNERING FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

Cedar Grove-Belgium School District continues to strengthen its commitment to high-quality instruction through its ongoing partnership with CESA 7. Charla Meyer, Literacy Specialist, recently facilitated Keys to Beginning Reading training, equipping teachers with practical strategies grounded in the science of reading to support early learners. Over several years of collaboration, Charla has built strong, trusting relationships with elementary staff, who value her insight, guidance, and deep expertise. Her consistent support has helped foster a shared understanding of effective literacy practices, empowering teachers to confidently implement research-based instruction in their classrooms.

The district also values the Mentor and Mentee trainings facilitated by Sarkis Wentland, Literacy Specialist, which provide staff with meaningful ideas and resources that directly support teacher growth. In addition, Beth Van De Hey, EL & Co-Teaching Specialist, partnered with the district to deliver districtwide English Learner (EL) training. She shared practical, adaptable strategies across grade levels and content areas, while structuring learning so staff could apply new knowledge directly to upcoming lesson plans during dedicated professional development time. Staff were also reintroduced to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), providing a common structure and language to better support and communicate about student needs.

Cedar Grove-Belgium School District emphasizes that its partnership with CESA 7 is especially impactful because of the strong, trusting relationships built over time and the shared focus on student-centered learning. This collaboration continues to support educators in meeting the diverse needs of all learners.
