Summer 2025 Tenterfield feature
After a very memorable launch on Saturday, November 15, sales of the second feature on Tenterfield have soared! As you would recall, we first featured Tenterfield (with Glen Innes) in Summer 2022, so a second feature three years later was something we felt very comfortable with. So much of the content was different to the first and we have received excellent reviews from our readers. Thank you to Kim Massie for sharing her beautiful home, garden and B&B (The Ivy Leaf Chapel and The Bungalow) to create such an impressive and unique cover, which has attracted an avalanche of compliments on its beauty.
A new year full of surprises
We start off 2026 featuring the beautiful Richmond Valley Council area over 100 pages. This feature captures the best on offer around Casino, Coraki, Woodburn and Evans Head. We didn’t feel we knew this area well, but after subsequent visits and lots of networking we now feel confident this feature truly reflects the essence of this stunning and diverse region. Thank you to the Gould family who posed with patience and tenacity for the perfect cover shot! Adam, Krystie and family contribute greatly to the agricultural industry through dairying and the cattle industry (see their story beginning on page 64). We were thrilled to be able to tell the story of their brother Ben and wife Tennielle Gould as well. Along with their children Cooper and Charlee they’re carving up accolades in the working dog and Simmental/Fleckvieh stud cattle breeding and showing world (see their story on page 78). The Gould brothers would be making their late parents extremely proud.

We were very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Casino legend and much-loved citizen Brenda Armfield just prior to Christmas 2025. We extend our deepest sympathy to her husband and life partner, Warren, who kindly agreed to allow Brenda’s story to be published in this edition.

CASINO LEAVES quite an impression
As I reflect on my week in Casino, I’m filled with an unexpected sense of connection … a series of moments shared with wonderful people who welcomed me not as a visitor, but as someone they were happy to call a friend. From the moment I arrived, the town hummed with life, the streets glowed in warm sunlight, and every corner held a story waiting to be photographed. I felt immediately drawn into the rhythm of the town, eager to capture the beauty of both the region and the people who call it home. One of my first experiences was a quiet morning tea with Jan Danaher, who spoke with heartfelt honesty about the challenges she faced during the recent floods. Her resilience, courage, and unwavering optimism left an unforgettable impression on me. Later that day, I met the ever-effervescent Brenda Armfield, whose passion for performing lit up the room the moment she began to reminisce. After tea and sandwiches, her husband Warren whisked me away for a tour of town in their iconic bright-green Moke – wind rushing past, both of us laughing like old friends. Another highlight was my visit with the gracious Betty Bennett, affectionately known as the matriarch of Casino. Listening to her stories of a long and dedicated nursing career, followed by her

life in one of Casino’s earliest homesteads, felt like stepping back into the town’s living history. Her home, beautifully preserved and full of charm, was a treasure in its own right. Every person, every family, every business I photographed offered something genuine and heartfelt. These are real, everyday Australians – resilient, warm, community-minded – each contributing in quiet but powerful ways to the heartbeat of the Richmond Valley. It was an honour to capture their essence through my lens. Casino itself is a tapestry of rustic character and heritage beauty. Grand federation buildings stand proudly beside art deco details, while vibrant laneways – revived through local street art – offer surprising bursts of colour. A historical society walking tour gently guides you through time, revealing layers of the town’s story. The Richmond River winds peacefully along the edge of town, drawing birdlife in abundance and adding a serene natural rhythm to daily life.
Beyond the township stretch wide, open grazing lands – the fertile heart that produces Casino’s legendary beef. Drive a little further and the road begins to wind past fields of golden wheat, towering sugar cane, and vibrant rows of sunflower fields. Not long after, the landscape transforms again as you reach the pristine coastline of Evans Head, framed by national parks, boutique shops, and sparkling waterways. My week in Casino reminded me of the beauty of regional life – where history, nature, and community intertwine so effortlessly. The Regional Lifestyle Magazine is a high-quality publication, colourful, glossy pages in an easy-to-read font format and spectacular to page through. In the Summer 2025 edition, within which the Tenterfield shire area was exclusively featured, the team at RLM not only overdelivered on their promise of 80 pages by delivering 120 pages but did it in a way that exceeded all other expectations. The many artistic photographs tell their own stories – ideal for a lazy flick through the magazine, just enjoying the interesting faces, spectacular colours and scenery depicted.
The Summer 2025 edition of Regional Lifestyle Magazine is the second time Tenterfield has been featured. The fabulous launch was held at the Tenterfield RSL Pavilion with local dignitaries, feature guests and supporters in attendance. Special thanks to Alex and Elizabeth for their great selection of drinks and a complimentary Summer edition given to those in attendance. Guests were treated to magnificent canapes from caterers Kim Rhodes and Rosy Carter (with the help of Tenterfield High School students) and Mitch Smith provided extremely well for the guests with the night’s entertainment. This Tenterfield feature further showcases the breathtaking area of Tenterfield and surrounding villages. Included in this Summer’s edition was the historic Stannum House, Carol and Bill Campbell and Kim Massie’s fabulous gardens and the Cobb and Co Museum at Liston. Opening on Sunday immediately after the launch, we couldn’t believe the demand, with magazines flying off the shelves quicker than we could stock them! The commentary from Tenterfieldians was that this edition was even better than the last. Coastal country culture From the country to the coast, the Richmond Valley is where the reef meets beef. It’s a place where open farmland meets the ocean, and where visitors can enjoy a relaxed break surrounded by friendly people and plenty to see and do. The Richmond Valley is in northern New South Wales, roughly three hours’ drive south of Brisbane, and eight hours north of Sydney. Inland there is rich farming country, with Casino at its centre. It has a strong agricultural heritage and a proud local spirit with the Richmond River running through it. The town’s main streets are easy to explore, with cafés, small shops and historic buildings adding to the sense of a welcoming country community. The smaller towns of Woodburn, Coraki and Rappville each have their own story, shaped by the river, the forest and generations of local families. On the coast, Evans Head offers a quiet seaside escape. With long beaches, calm estuary waters and easy access to Bundjalung National Park, it’s perfect for fishing, swimming or a walk along the sand. You can take a picnic by the river, launch a boat, or simply enjoy the view from one of the lookouts. There are many other towns and villages to explore, each with their own unique character and charm, with a much sought-after country spirit evident in all. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the region has plenty of options. You can explore forest drives, go camping beside a creek, take photos of local wildlife, or join a guided birdwatching trip. The rivers and coastline offer great spots for fishing, boating, kayaking and paddleboarding, while the nearby hills and reserves provide good walking tracks and picnic areas.
You can get active and explore the incredible southern start of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, with spectacular views which roll across our wonderful landscape. The Richmond Valley also has a busy events calendar which showcases its local character. The Casino Truck Show is a leading national event which brings families and the best of our of transport industry to town every August. Each May, Casino comes alive with Beef Week – a seven-day celebration of the region’s cattle industry and country life, featuring parades, markets, entertainment and plenty of good food. Downriver, the Woodburn Riverside Festival celebrates the life of the river while at Evans Head, the annual Fishing Classic and Malibu Classic attract both competitors and spectators to the coast. Whether you’re interested in local history, art and culture, or simply taking time to enjoy the outdoors, the Richmond Valley offers an easy and welcoming experience. of the lens At 65 years young, Jimmy Malecki has lived a life many only dream of – and his journey is far from over. A passionate photographer, filmmaker, conservationist and drone pilot based in the New South Wales Northern Rivers region, Jimmy embodies the belief that life is best lived through visual exploration and serves as his personal diary. He often says his bucket list keeps growing and his love for photography ensures he’ll never hang up his cameras. Always one to colour outside the lines, Jimmy refuses to be defined by convention. Whether behind the still camera, directing film, teaching others, or capturing footage from the sky with his DJI drone, he pursues his craft with fearless curiosity. From the early days of film photography to cutting-edge aerial cinematography, Jimmy’s work reflects both technical mastery and soulful engagement with the world. Born in Seattle, Washington, Jimmy’s passion for photography was ignited at a young age in his father’s darkroom. With his father working as an army photographer during the Korean War era, Jimmy was mesmerised watching images emerge in the developer tank. By age 10, he had already claimed a Kodak Box Brownie as his constant companion, beginning a lifelong love affair with the lens. Before establishing himself as a professional photographer, Jimmy lived many lives. In his early career he taught scuba diving, worked as an EMT and ambulance driver, and even volunteered as a firefighter — experiences that planted deep roots in his ability to connect with people and tell their stories visually. Those years of service in emergency medicine and community support gave him a perspective few artists possess: a grounded understanding of human fragility and resilience that informs his creative work. Jimmy’s path has been anything but linear. He’s worked as a scuba diving instructor in the Caribbean, navigated floodwaters to rescue those in need, and rubbed shoulders with iconic personalities – from Stephen King to Olivia Newton-John. On the set of Stephen King’s first TV mini-series Rose Red, Jimmy served as stills photographer, capturing moments both on and off camera and even striking up a friendly rapport with King himself. His portrait work reveals his unique ability to put anyone — from world-renowned actors like Jeff Goldblum and Aidan Quinn to everyday people at ease. >

At the heart of Jimmy’s work lies a deeper mission: using visual storytelling to advocate for conservation and community resilience. Jimmy believes the key to great portraiture is connection: “Most people would rather go to a dentist than have their picture taken,” he jokes, underscoring the trust he builds with every subject. For more than 30 years, Jimmy has used his camera to tell stories that inspire, inform and ignite change. His extensive portfolio spans portraiture, commercial photography, live event coverage, and landscape imagery that reflects his appreciation of both human and natural worlds. He has worked with major institutions and media outlets, including Microsoft, MTV, Rolling Stone, The New York Times and Vogue, bringing his vision to audiences around the globe. At the heart of Jimmy’s work lies a deeper mission: using visual storytelling to advocate for conservation and community resilience. Now firmly rooted in the Northern Rivers, Jimmy’s life and work are deeply entwined with this landscape. His property, 40 hectares known as The Bog, serves as a vital ecological corridor linking significant conservation areas. Over years of dedicated stewardship, it has become a sanctuary for rare species, ancient trees and intricate wetland ecosystems. Through his regenerative filmmaking and photography, he invites viewers to see the world through a lens of care. One of his most acclaimed film projects, Tinnie Heroes, co-directed with Susanna Freymark, tells the story of everyday locals who risked their lives in floodwaters to save their neighbours. The documentary was warmly received in regional screenings, earning standing ovations and spotlighting the courage and kindness of ordinary people during crisis. His aerial cinematography – often captured with drone
technology – has also contributed to environmental understanding. After the catastrophic 2022 floods in northern NSW, Jimmy was contracted to document the aftermath from above, creating footage that now supports scientific research, landcare efforts, rehabilitation planning and community preparedness in the face of future climate challenges. Jimmy’s career reflects a rare blend of artistry and activism. As a long-time member of Canon Professional Services, he has tested and utilised some of the most advanced photographic equipment available, constantly refining his craft. Despite his accomplishments, Jimmy remains delightfully humble. For him, every day with a camera is a fresh opportunity – to learn, to connect, and to share a story worth telling. Retirement doesn’t factor into his plans; there are always more horizons to explore, more moments to capture, and more beauty to reveal through the lens. In his own words, photography isn’t just a profession – it’s a way of life, a lifelong conversation between observer and world. And for Jimmy Malecki, that conversation is far from over.
