The Lab Hot Sheet enables you to identify problem SCC cows in the herd. As soon as your lab runs your milk samples, this hot sheet is available so you can immediately know which cows are contributing the most to your bulk tank SCC. This can help you decide which cows may need to be moved to a new group, need treatment or some other management decision. First, the Herd Average is listed for Milk, Fat %, Protein %, MUN (Milk Urea Nitrogen), SCS (Somatic Cell Score), Weighted Average SCC (Somatic Cell Count), and DIM (Days in Milk). A Bulk Tank Summary is provided if a herd uses more than one bulk tank. Cows are listed in descending order of their SCC contribution to the bulk tank (%). Current test day milk lbs., Fat%, Protein%, DIM, and Lact (Lactation number) are listed for each cow, as well as the following: SCS – Linear Somatic Cell Score for the current test Count – Somatic Cell Actual Count for the current test MUN – Milk Urea Nitrogen test results (if test was requested) CAR – Any Condition Affecting Record code reported by the technician (see list of codes on next page) W/O (without) – The difference in bulk tank SCC value if only the cow of interest is removed % – The percentage of SCC in the bulk tank that this cow is contributing based on her weighted avg. SCC
Conditions Affecting Record (CAR) Codes A - Abnormal, weights were recorded E - Estimated, no weights were recorded F - Fat % and Protein % Estimated, no sample collected by the technician H - In Heat on Test Day I - Injected Prior or During Milking L - Fat % and Protein % Estimated, lab unable to get results from sample
