Future of Mariners women secured The future of the Central Coast Mariners Women’s team has been secured, with the Holman Barnes Group announced as the club’s new owner, ending weeks of uncertainty following the sale of the Mariners’ men’s operation. The announcement on Tuesday, August 4, comes six weeks after the men’s A-League licence was sold to investors behind English Championship club Queens Park Rangers, leaving the A-League Women without an owner and raising concerns about the longterm future of elite women’s football on the Central Coast. The acquisition creates a split ownership structure, with the Mariners’ men’s and women’s teams now operating under separate
ownership while continuing to represent the same club and community. For the Central Coast, the announcement removes a major cloud hanging over one of the region’s premier sporting organisations. Former Mariners coach and Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna said it was a great day for football on the Coast. Cr McKinna acknowledged the concern many supporters had felt after the men’s club was sold six weeks ago, leaving the women’s side without an owner.
