Council denies ‘secrecy’ over seawall meeting The Save our Sand (SOS) group has accused Central Coast Council of holding “secret” meetings with landowners over its application for s68 Authorisation to erect a seawall at the erosion-plagued Wamberal Beach. Council has invited landowners to participate in a webinar on July 16 where, alongside representatives from Manly Hydraulics Laboratory, it will present the latest proposed design for a seawall as it progresses its application under the NSW Reconstruction Authority Act. Council has submitted a preliminary application for s68 Authorisation for sand nourishment underpinned by a sloping sandstone rock revetment at Wamberal Beach.

In a letter to landowners, Council said staff have continued to liaise with the NSW Reconstruction Authority in order to “address any outstanding concerns and refine the plan to allow for formal submission of the application”. In a Facebook post to its members, SOS was it was unacceptable that Council is running special meetings with beachfront landowners to the exclusion of the wider community. “The beach belongs to all,” the post said. “Your rates paid for the MHL seawall designs that will be discussed, so you should have every right to join the meeting, ask questions and give feedback.
