Residents turned up to support speakers at the Land and Envrionment Court meeting
There were no chairs and no microphone so when more than 100 locals turned up to hear six residents address the Court, many could not hear what was being said. The meeting was held on the site of a proposed McDonald’s fast food restaurant, across the road from Toukley Public School, on the corner of Main and Evans Rds. Residents say it is the wrong spot for the fast food chain. The site is home to a former smash
repair business and the speeches were given at the front of the locked property, competing with the traffic noise. McDonald’s went to the LEC for a review of the decision by the Local Planning Panel which rejected the proposal late last year. The Panel’s reasons included traffic, an over-development of the site and not being in the public interest. The speakers on Wednesday, July 1, spoke about those issues, with one describing the proposed McDonald’s as being suitable for a highway, not a community village.
