Council meetings at Regional Library cut

The historic first meeting of Central Coast councillors at the Regional Library in Gosford will possibly be their one and only meeting there this year. Councillors have decided to hold only one meeting there per calendar year, after having previously resolved to hold five Ordinary Council meetings per year at the Regional Library. Deputy Mayor John Mouland said the first of those meetings was held on March 24 and, while wellintentioned in improving geographic accessibility, delivered mixed outcomes across operational, financial and logistical areas.

Relocating a Council meeting from Wyong to Gosford costs about $17,000 per meeting, equating to $85,000 annually, he said. During debate on the issue at the May 5 Extraordinary Meeting, other councillors questioned that amount, saying it was too early to know for sure the exact costs. But Cr Mouland said that in a constrained financial environment, it represented a significant discretionary cost that did not directly improve service delivery to the community.
