Calls for long-term solution for illegal camping Norah Head residents relieved to see Illegal campers finally moved on from Jenny Dixon Reserve recently were astounded to discover the campers had simply moved down the road to Toukley bridge.

Campers moved from Jenny Dixon Reserve at Norah Head to a waterfront reserve at Toukley Bridge

Residents were outraged to discover the campers had set up on a waterfront reserve and are calling for a longterm, co-ordinated solution. “The same group has now relocated to the reserve at Toukley Bridge, taking with them the same aggressive behaviour, the same disregard for the environment, the same ferocious dog, and driving around in the same unregistered vehicle, living their best life,’ one resident said. “Where to next? “This raises several serious concerns: there has been no accountability. “No fines or penalties appear to have

been issued for the extensive destruction caused at Jenny Dixon Reserve, where fencing was removed, Tuckeroo trees cut down and thrown over the cliff, ditches dug, the entire campsite area was completely denuded, and the public was harassed by the individuals and the dog. “While the removal of the camp from Norah Head is a welcome relief for residents, it is a hollow win. “It is now simply someone else’s problem for the present, but more tents will follow. “The issue has not been resolved — it has merely been temporarily shifted. “From the community’s perspective, Council appears to be playing a game of ‘whack‑a‑mole’, moving the problem from one reserve to another rather than implementing a long‑term, co-ordinated solution.” Continued page 8
