This week’ s spotlight goes to Cami Fernandez, who was recently named the 2026 Humanitarian of the Year for the FSU College of Business. After being nominated by her professor and faculty advisor, Dr Trammell, Cami was recognized for her incredible dedication to service and involvement across campus From leading volunteer initiatives and supporting research to helping students with networking and professional development, she’ s constantly finding ways to give back and uplift the FSU community

Her message to fellow students is simple: step outside your comfort zone, get involved, and make an impact Congrats, Cami!

LATINAMERICAN CERAMICS

Talavera poblana is a tin‑enameled earthenware that emerged in Puebla, Mexico, after Spanish artisans brought the potter’ s wheel and majólica glazing techniques from Talavera de la Reina, blending European technologies with Indigenous materials and labor into a distinctly local style

Regulated by a potters’ guild from 1653, workshops produced both utilitarian “ yellow ware” and refined blue‑and‑white pieces inspired by the global popularity of Chinese porcelain, turning talavera into a marker of status and taste. Beyond plates and jars, talavera tiles transformed Puebla’ s churches, kitchens, fountains, and civic buildings into ceramic canvases, their floral and geometric motifs defining the city’s visual identity

Today, talavera poblana embodies centuries of cultural exchange and remains a powerful symbol of regional heritage, where every tile still carries the memory of transatlantic movement, regulation, and artistic innovatio

Daniela is an undergraduate student majoring in Marketing and Management with a minor in Psychology. She is also preparing for law school and pursuing the Multicultural Marketing Certificate to strengthen her expertise. She contributes to the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communications as a member of the social media team and the communications team She is in charge of showcasing all our amazing members’ work every week!
