College,Career,AndMilitaryReadiness(CCMR)

TheTexasEducationAgency(TEA)hassetspecificmandatestoensurethatstudentsare readyforcollege,careers,ormilitaryservice,andwearecommittedtosupportingyour childthroughthisprocess.WhiletheseCollege,Career,andMilitaryReadiness(CCMR) criteriaarenotrequiredforhighschoolgraduation,theyserveasvaluablebenchmarksto ensurethatstudentsarewell-preparedforlifebeyondhighschool,whethertheyare headingtocollege,enteringtheworkforce,orjoiningthemilitary.CCMRIndicatorsTomeet CCMRrequirements studentsmustdemonstratereadinessinoneofthefollowingareas:

CollegeReadiness:Achievingcollege-readyscoresonassessments(e.g.,SAT,ACT, TSI),earningcollegecredit(eg,AP,DualCredit),orenrollinginapostsecondary institutionwithinayearofgraduation.

CareerReadiness:Earningindustry-recognizedcertifications,completingwork-based learningexperiences(e.g.,internships),orfinishingaCareerandTechnicalEducation (CTE)programofstudy.

EarningHighSchoolCreditInMiddleSchool

CelinaISDstudentscanbeginearninghighschoolcreditstowardsgraduationinmiddle school.Pleaserefertothehighschoolplanningguide(linkHSguide)formoreinformation regardinghighschoolcoursesandrequirements.Gradingperiodsaredividedintotwo9weekperiodspersemesterandcreditisawardedbysemestergrades.

Inordertoreceivecreditforahighschoolcourse,studentsmust:

Earnaminimumgradeof70forbothsemestersofayearlongcourse

Ifastudentfailseithersemesterofatwo-semestercourse,thestudentcanregaincredit byaveragepassingthecoursefortheyear.

Semestersofatwo-semestercourseareaveragedonlyiftakenwithinthesame academicyearandmustaverageatotalof70orhigher.

Ifastudentisnotabletocreditaverageatwo-semestercourse,thestudentmust retakeonlythefailedsemester.

AlternateMethodsofEarningCredit

CelinaISDwillprovideCreditbyExamsandwillprovideapublishedcalendarwithavailable testingwindowsprovidedduringeachquarter.Thedistricthasestablishedthetestingfor gradesK-12inaccordancewithboardpolicy.Astudentmayonlytakeamaximumoftwo testsperday.ApplicationsforexaminationforCreditbyExaminationmustbesubmittedin accordancewiththepublishedtestingcalendar.Datesarepublishedonthedistrict website

CreditbyExamforAcceleration

Astudentingrades6-12mayearncreditforanacademicsubjectinwhichhe/shehashad nopriorinstruction Thestudentmustearnascoreof80%orhigheronaboard-approved examinationfortheapplicablecourse.Theschooldistrictmustentertheearnedscoreon thestudent’stranscript.Ifastudentsuccessfullyearnscreditandisbeingtakenfor accelerationpurposes,placementinanewcoursewillonlytakeplaceatthestartofthe schoolyear(orsemesterforsemestercourses)regardlessofwhentheexamistaken.A studentmaynotattempttoearncreditbyexaminationforaspecifichighschoolcourse morethantwotimes.AnycourseinwhichastudentearnsbyCBEwillnotbecountedin GPAcalculationnorawardedweightedcredit.Contactyourschoolcounselorformore information.

CorrespondenceCoursesforCredit

CelinaISDrequiresthatstudentsreceiveapprovalfromtheirschoolcounselorpriorto enrollinginanycorrespondencecourses.Gradesearnedincorrespondencecourseswill notbecalculatedintostudents’GPAbutwillcounttowardsgraduationandappearfor creditonastudent’stranscript.Thefinancialresponsibilityofthecorrespondence Correspondencecoursesmustbetakenthroughoneofthefollowingapprovedprograms:

UILEligibilityforExtracurricularParticipation

UILparticipantsareeligibletocompeteincontestsduringthefirstsixweeksoftheschool year,providedtheyhavebeenpromotedfromthepreviousgradelevelpriortothestartof thecurrentschoolyear.

Astudentwillbesuspendedfromparticipatinginanyextracurricularactivitysponsoredor sanctionedbythedistrictorUILif,attheendofagradingperiod,theyreceiveagrade below70inanyacademiccourse,exceptforcoursesexemptfromthe"nopass,noplay" rule.

Keypointstoremember:

Studentsareevaluatedforeligibilityeverythreeweeks.Ineligibilityisdeterminedatthe endofthefirstsix-weekgradingperiodandattheendofeachnine-weekgrading periodthereafter.Studentscanregaineligibilityattheendofanysix-weekgrading period,butmustbepassingallcourses.

AllstudentsremainacademicallyeligibleduringThanksgivingbreak,winterbreak,and springbreak

Thereisaseven-daygraceperiodforeligibilityfollowingeachgradeevaluation,except duringholidays.

Studentsloseeligibilityforextracurricularactivitiesiftheyreceiveagradebelow70in anyacademiccourse,otherthandistrictdesignatedhonorsoradvancedcourses,after anygradingperiodevaluation.

UILWaivedAdvancedCourses

LocalDistrictPolicydesignatesthatadvancedhighschoolcreditcoursesinCISDare exemptfromthe“nopass,noplay”ruleaslongasthestudentmaintainsaminimum gradeaverageof60inthedesignatedhighschoolcourse.ThefollowingcoursesareCISD advancedhighschoolcoursestaughtinmiddleschoolandrecognizedbytheTexas EducationAgencyasexemptfromthe“nopass,noplay”rule:

SchedulingandCourseSelections

Oneofthemostcriticalfunctionsperformedbyaschoolispre-registrationofitsstudents BasedoncoursesthatstudentschoosetotakeduringSpringpre-registration,classesare scheduledandteachersarehiredforthenextschoolyear.Pleasechooseyourclasses carefully. Eachyear,studentswillreceiveacourseselectionsheet.Thissheetwillinclude informationthatwillassiststudentsandparentsinsettingacademicgoals,selecting desiredcourses,andprovidingalternatechoicesifthefirstchoiceisnotavailable.Course selectionsheetsareexpectedtobesignedbybothparentandstudentandreturnedonor beforethedaytheyaredue.Ifcourseselectionsheetsarenotsignedandreturnedbythe duedate aschedulewillbecreatedforyourstudentsothatwemaycompletethe schedulingprocessforthecomingyear.Ourdistrictwillcontinuetophaseinchangesin courseselectionssothatweareabletoprovidethebesteducationalopportunitiesfor studentstomeettherequirementsforthevariousgraduationplansthatarerequiredby thestateofTexas.

LevelChangePolicy

StudentscanrequesttoleveldownfromanHonorsorAPcourseattheendofthesixth weekofschoolforafirst-semestercourseandattheendofthefirstsemester Gradesfrom thedroppedclasswillbetransferredtothenewclass.Studentsandparentsmustdiscuss aplanforsuccesswiththeirteacherbytheduedate.

Schedulechangesatthistimearenotaguaranteeandonlyonaspace-availablebasis. Anycoursechangesmayimpactotherclassesinyourchild’sschedule,includingteachers andelectives.Oncechangesaremade,itisnotpossibletoreversethechanges.Thegrade thestudentearnedinthedroppedcoursewillbetransferredtothenewlyaddedcourse witha10-pointaddition,nottoexceed100.(Thisonlyappliesifthecourseisdroppedatthe sixweekperiod,notatthesemestermark)

Advancedacademiccoursesareofferedforstudentswhoareinterestedinexploring contentareasatamorein-depthandrigorouslevel.Studentsthatchoosethesecourses shouldexpectthecontenttobemorecomplexandtomoveatafasterpace.Middle schoollevelHonorscoursesareintendedanddesignedtosupportandpreparestudents foradvancedhighschoolcourses.

Inthiscourse,studentsstrengthen reading,writing,listening,andspeaking skillsthroughablendoffictionand nonfiction.Theyanalyzecharacters, themes,structures,andideaswhile buildingcomprehensionandvocabulary. Studentswriteclear evidence-based responsesandengageindiscussionsand collaborativeprojectstounderstandhow languageandliteratureshapetheirworld. Thiscourseisablock(90minutes).
