SIGNATURE SUMMER CELEBRATION RETURNS TO OLD CELINA PARK
The City is preparing to welcome thousands of residents and visitors to Splash & Blast on Saturday, June 27, from 5:00 - 10:00 PM at Old Celina Park. As one of the City’s signature community celebrations, the event brings families together to celebrate Independence Day while showcasing the strong sense of community that continues to define Celina.
This year’s celebration will feature live entertainment, family-friendly activities, food vendors, a kids’ zone, and a variety of interactive experiences designed to engage residents of all ages. In recognition of Celina’s 150th Anniversary, attendees will also experience a special Celina150 Drone Show, commemorating the City’s rich history and remarkable growth through a unique aerial presentation. The evening will conclude with the community’s traditional Fireworks Finale, providing a memorable ending to one of Celina’s most anticipated annual events.
Splash & Blast represents more than a community celebration - it reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful experiences that bring neighbors together, strengthen community connections, and celebrate the pride residents have in calling Celina home.
CITY HOSTS CELINA CONNECT. QUARTERLY MEETINGS
This week, the City hosted its Celina Connect. Quarterly Meetings, bringing employees from across the organization together to strengthen communication, celebrate accomplishments, and reinforce the City’s commitment to serving the community as one team.
During the meetings, staff received updates on current initiatives, major capital improvement projects, and up-
coming priorities that continue to shape Celina’s future. The Human Resources team also introduced the City’s enhanced Safety Program, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe workplace while reinforcing a culture of accountability and employee well-being.
The meetings also provided an opportunity to recognize the collective accomplishments of City departments, welcome new employees to the organization, and celebrate employee service anniversaries. These moments of recognition highlight the dedication of the City’s workforce while reinforcing the value every employee brings to the organization.
Celina Connect continues to serve as an important opportunity to unite employees around a shared mission, foster collaboration across departments, and ensure staff remain informed, engaged, and connected. By bringing the entire organization together each quarter, the City strengthens the relationships and teamwork that enable employees to deliver exceptional service to the residents of Celina.
N. OKLAHOMA DR PROJECT ADVANCES INTO PAVING OPERATIONS PHASE
Construction activities continue to progress on the N. Oklahoma Dr Improvements Project, with paving operations scheduled to begin on the main travel lanes between E. Pecan St and E. Beech St. Concrete placement is expected to commence tomorrow, with completion of this segment anticipated by the end of next week.
Significant progress has also been made on underground utility infrastructure. Storm drainage installation along E. Malone St has been completed, while the concrete structure crew is finalizing the last remaining drainage structure in the area. Concurrently, the demolition crew has mobilized to E. Malone St to begin roadway preparation activities, including grading and lime stabilization in advance of pavement construction.
Utility installation activities progressing south along N. Oklahoma Dr continue to advance on schedule and are anticipated to be completed by the end of the week, marking the completion of all storm drain infrastructure associated with the project.
DOWNTOWN CENTER CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES TO ADVANCE
Construction activities continue to advance on the Downtown Center, with progress occurring across multiple areas of the facility. Exterior façade sheathing and waterproofing operations remain ongoing as crews continue efforts to enclose the building and protect the structure from the elements.
Structural steel installation continues at the roof level, while mass timber installation has commenced within the atrium, marking a significant milestone in the project’s vertical construction. Work on the elevator shaft
concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls is nearing completion, and underfloor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) rough-in activities continue on Levels 2 and 3 in preparation for future interior construction phases.
BRUSHES & BADGES STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
The Celina Police Department hosted Brushes & Badges last weekend, welcoming an estimated 75 to 80 residents and family members for a morning focused on creativity, conversation, and community engagement. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to interact with police officers, support staff, and Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) in a relaxed, family-friendly setting while participating in arts and crafts activities.
The department extends its appreciation to Jennifer Greer for her support in helping make the event a success, as well as the VIPS volunteers whose service was instrumental throughout the morning. Events such as Brushes & Badges help strengthen relationships between residents and the Police Department, reinforcing the City’s commitment to community-oriented policing and fostering meaningful connections beyond traditional public safety interactions.
UPDATE ON CHOATE PKWY RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Construction continues to progress on the Choate Pkwy Improvement Project, a collaborative effort between the City and an adjacent subdivision developer to expand roadway capacity and support the community’s continued growth. The project will reconstruct the existing roadway into a two-lane divided primary arterial within the ultimate right-of-way of a future six-lane divided arterial. Improvements include drainage infrastructure, roadway signage, and pavement markings; lighting and landscaping are not included in the current scope. The segment of Choate Pkwy between Custer Rd and Roseland Pkwy remains on schedule to open to traffic by the end of the month, providing an important new east-west connection for motorists.
Work on the section between Roseland Pkwy and Timberidge Dr is nearing completion following delays related to utility conflicts. This segment is being constructed as part of the Ten Mile Creek Development, and City staff expects to receive an updated timeline for opening this section to traffic following a coordination meeting with the developer.
Looking ahead, construction on the segment between Timberidge Drive and Kinship Parkway is expected to begin soon as part of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Utility conflicts are currently being addressed and are expected to be resolved within the next eight weeks, allowing roadway construction to proceed.
DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY PHASE 4A PROJECT: LANE CLOSURE NOTIFICATION
As part of the continued progress on the DNT Phase 4A project, construction crews will soon implement tar-
geted lane closures to support key project activities. These closures are necessary to facilitate the transport of topsoil, conduct mass haul operations, perform area cleanup, and set structural beams. It is important to note that full closure of the left lanes is not anticipated.
Monday, June 29, through Thursday, July 2:
• The northbound and southbound left lane of Dallas Pkwy from First St to FM 428 will be closed daily from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM.
