CITY UPDATES
WINTER WEATHER RESPONSE AND STAFF RECOGNITION
This past week presented significant challenges due to the winter weather event impacting North Texas. I want to recognize and commend our City staff for their exceptional professionalism, dedication, and teamwork throughout this period. Our Public Works crews worked around the clock to treat and monitor road conditions, helping to keep critical routes as safe and passable as possible. Our Public Safety teams responded to resident needs with urgency and care, ensuring timely assistance during hazardous conditions.
Every department across the organization played an important role in supporting this coordinated response whether through operations, communications, or direct resident support. Their collective efforts reflect a strong commitment to public service and the safety of our community. We are extremely grateful for their hard work, resilience, and willingness to go above and beyond to protect our residents during this challenging weather event.
This is just one example of the appreciation and trust our residents place in our City team that was sent via social media.
“Special shout out to the City of Celina water department and their employees Blake (Purdom) and Mike (Gaisoa). They came out due to a broken pipe, as we weren’t able to get the shut off to work and their service was EXCELLENT. Friendly, fast service, answered our questions and really represented the City Water Department well. We are so thankful for our City workers and their service. I know they received a lot of calls during this Winter Freeze and we appreciate their quick response and Great Customer Service. We love this City!”
CITY TRASH, RECYCLING, AND BULK COLLECTION UPDATE
Community Waste Disposal (CWD) resumed trash, recycling, and bulk collection services on Thursday, January 29, following a multi-day suspension due to winter weather conditions and the closure of regional landfills. Crews are proceeding with caution as road conditions continue to fluctuate with freezing and daytime thawing.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY ROUTES
Residents in Thursday and Friday service areas will receive combined trash, recycling, and bulk collection this week. Due to lingering road conditions, some routes may extend into the following day. Collection efforts will continue through Saturday to ensure service completion.
MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND WEDNESDAY ROUTES
Service for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday routes, including trash, recycling, and bulk, will resume next week on their regularly scheduled collection days. To assist residents impacted by the service disruption, households on these routes may place up to four additional trash bags outside their cart during their next scheduled collection (either four 13-gallon bags or two 30-gallon bags).
The City greatly appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as our crews work diligently to restore full service and ensure community safety.
STATE OF THE CITY EVENT AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
The City is proud to partner with the Celina Chamber of Commerce and Celina Independent School District for the annual State of the City event, scheduled for Monday, February 2, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Church at the Creek (8001 County Road 125, McKinney). This annual gathering brings together business leaders, community partners, elected officials, and stakeholders to celebrate Celina’s progress and share a forward-looking vision for the community.
The State of the City luncheon provides a valuable platform to highlight key accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and strategic priorities that will guide the City’s continued growth and success. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with civic and business leadership, learn about major development projects and infrastructure investments, and gain insight into how the City is proactively planning to support economic vitality, quality of life, and long-term sustainability.
This event also serves as an important opportunity to strengthen partnerships across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, reinforcing the collaborative approach that continues to drive the Celina’s success as one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities.
COUNTY ROAD 52 RECONSTRUCTION PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING
The City of Celina Engineering Department will host a public information meeting on Monday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers to discuss the upcoming County Road 52 Reconstruction project. The meeting was originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, but was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.
The meeting will provide a comprehensive overview of the project scope, including anticipated improvements, traffic control measures, and construction phasing. Residents and business owners will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and address any concerns related to construction impacts. Stakeholder engagement remains a critical component of this project, and all affected property owners, businesses, and community members are encouraged to attend and stay informed throughout the construction process.
DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY PHASE 4A PROJECT: LANE CLOSURE NOTIFICATION
As part of the continued progress on the DNT Phase 4A project, construction crews will soon implement targeted lane closures to support key project activities. These closures are necessary to facilitate the transport of topsoil, conduct mass haul operations, perform area cleanup, and set structural beams. It is important to note that full closure of the left lanes is not anticipated. Efforts will be made to ensure that lane closures are coordinated to prevent conflicts within overlapping work zones.
Monday, February 2, through Saturday, February 7:
• The northbound and southbound left lane of Dallas Pkwy from First St to FM 428 will be closed daily from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM.
Wednesday, February 4, through Saturday, February 7:
• All eastbound and westbound lanes of Frontier Pkwy. between north- and southbound Dallas Pkwy. will be closed overnight from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
• All eastbound and westbound lanes of Punk Carter Pkwy between northbound and southbound Dallas Pkwy will be closed nightly from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
