2-TIME STATE CHAMPION
Rising Sun Junior Tyler Garvin tops off undefeated season with another State Championship title UPPER MARLBORO - Rising Sun Junior, Tyler Garvin led the group of eight Cecil County Wrestlers into the MPSSAA State Wrestling Tournament this weekend looking to win his second State Championship. Garvin, a National Champion in 2022, would be unstoppable as he finished his undfeated season with an-
other top title. “We have a really young team and are going to continue to get better and be here every year” Tyler said, “I’m proud of all my guys who came here this year.” Garvin was referring to the five other Rising Sun wrestlers who qualified for states this year. Among those five is Tyler’s young-
er brother, Freshman Zach Garvin who qualified for States. Zach finished the tournament in 6th place making the awards podium in his first State Tournament. Xzavier Brown was also wrestling in the big show for the first time and finished the tournament in fifth place. Returning to the State Tournament for a second
time was Mason Testerman and Elijah Farr. Both earned a spot on the awards podium with Testerman placing second and Farr finishing in sixth place. Rising Sun Freshman Adan Stewart also competed in the tournament but did not place. Cecil County was also represented by Perryville
Senior Kyler Brown and Bohemia Manor Sophomore Josh Allen. Of the group of eight who attended the State Tournament only Brown of Perryville is a Senior and this was his final appearance in the tournament. The group already has their eyes set on coming back in 2024 and making
another run at the top of the podium. For Tyler Garvin who is already there, he will be a Senior next year and is hoping to cap off his High School with a third State Championship before he goes to wrestle in college. Garvin has not decided yet where that will be. photos in the B Section

The Golden Elks were the only Cecil County team still alive in the MPSSAA State Basketball Playoffs when they faced the
Titans in the 2A state quarterfinals. From the opening tipoff, it was clear Elkton was going to have trouble against New Town. Hot off taking down Baltimore County rivals Parkville and Hereford and ending Parkville’s 22-game winning streak, the Titans
