2022-2023 WINTER ALL COUNTY ISSUE Superintendent's Update:

CCPS COMMUNITY:

Contact information for County Elected Officials

Last month, the Board of Education approved the FY24 CCPS Budget Request which now goes to County Executive Danielle Hornberger who is in the process of developing the county’s proposed FY’24 budget which will then go to the County Council for approval. Now is the time to advocate for fully funding the CCPS budget request. CCPS has been funded at the Maintenance of Effort (MOE) level for two consecutive years (FY'22 & FY‘23), which is the minimally required level allowed by law. This level of funding has a direct and negative impact on our ability to support students.

Ms. Danielle Hornberger, County Executive

Continued lack of funding over the past several years, has required numerous position cuts in CCPS, ultimately resulting in increased class sizes. The current CCPS budget proposal that was sent to the County Government includes 64 additional positions that include paraprofessionals and teachers to help reduce class size, which is why we are asking for a $5.7 million increase. Maryland State Statute 4-205.K(2) requires that ‘The Superintendent shall seek in every way to secure the adequate funds from local authorities for the support and development of the public schools in the County’. I will continue to advocate for our schools and our students to the very best of my ability and I am asking for you to join me in this critical task. If you feel so inclined, I encourage you to reach out to the County Executive and members of County Council by writing a letter, sending an email, or by speaking during the public comment period during County Council meetings. As stated in my last newsletter, there is no more worthy cause than our children.Thank you for your support.
