Indians fall to Bobcats in 65-48 loss

By Kevin Phillips

NORTH EAST–North East played well in the first half against visiting Bel Air, resulting in a one-point deficit heading into halftime of its UCBAC boys’ basketball contest Friday night.

The Indians could not keep that tempo in the second half as things got away from them in the third quarter en route to 65-48 loss to the Bobcats. “Momentum. (Bel Air) swung the momentum,” North East head coach

Seth Grimes said. “I have a bunch of kids who went up against the odds, and they kept their cool. I did not see them freaking out. I’m proud of these kids with the integrity and character of them.” The Indians came out strong in the first quarter as

four different players scored for them in frame, allowing them to take a 14-7 lead after eight minutes. The Bobcats bounced back early in the second quarter, going on a 14-3 run to take the lead at 21-17, but North East maintained the

composure and kept pace with Bel Air for the remainder of the quarter, allowing them to enter halftime trailing by one point at 29-28. “They were sharing the ball. (Bel Air) cut down the transitions in the second quarter. We were focused

early on,” Grimes said. “We were making some of those shots, and we just kind of wore down later.” After the Indians tied the game early in the third quarter when Solomon George continued on A-5

Cain, Carillo and Dipietro combine for 34 points in Tome 41-18 win over Tri-State Crusaders By Karina Serio NORTH EAST - With the help of quality play from consistently developing freshmen, the Tome School coasted to a 41-18 win against Mid-Atlantic Independent League rival Tri-State Christian last Monday at home. The 23 point victory served as a turning point for a titan squad that has been fighting to find more balance throughout the season. “I really think the underclassman stepped up, they got more playing time this game and they did really well moving the ball and just getting

experience during the game getting to get on the floor getting to beat our rival was just a really good experience for them and boost for our confidence”, said Tome Senior Landen Cain, “As a senior seeing freshmen score is really great it means the future is really bright just them putting the work in. I’m really happy to see them executing their stuff. Cain led all scorers, draining 12 points. Freshman duo Audrey Dipietro and Ainsley Carillo knocked 11 each.
