Mustangs defeat Indians 46-30 to end regular season By Kevin Phillips

NORTH EAST–North East fell into a hole early as a result of a C. M. Wright threepoint barrage in the first quarter in the teams’ UCBAC girls’ basketball battle Friday evening.

After battling back in the second quarter to get into striking distance, the Indians' hopes for a rally were thwarted by a combination of a stifling Mustang press and an inability to make a field goal in the third quarter in a 46-30 loss.

“We didn’t have a lot go right tonight, but we attacked the rim well with the bigs. We didn’t get the shots to drop,” North East head coach Matt Haack said. “I loved our energy in the second to battle back after (C.M. Wright) had the run to start

the game. We didn’t have the shots drop tonight, and we didn’t do quite enough. We worked hard.” After both teams made a field goal in the first minute, the Mustangs took over the game with 14 unanswered points en route to a 19-6

lead by the end of the first quarter, and that run was powered by three pointers on three consecutive possessions. The Indians played better in the second quarter as they won the frame 11-6 to cut their deficit to 25-17 at

halftime, and the key to the rally was a result of playing better defensively. North East pulled to within six points early in the third quarter, but C.M. Wright re-established control as continued on A-6
