PERRYVILLE HIGH SENIOR COMPETES IN OCEAN CITY PATROL CREWS COMPETITION
OCEAN CITY, MD - After 50 years with the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) and 45 years as a Public-School educator in Charles County Maryland, Captain Butch Arbin has seen many young adults through both organizations. However, some stand out with very unique and special qualities. “Michael is one of a few who began his association with our Ocean City Junior Beach Patrol Program and because of his
individual strengths,” Arbin expresses. “[Michael] was able to become a Surf Rescue Technician at age 16, which is a year earlier than we allow other candidates.” Arbin continues, “Michael is an ambassador when it comes to dealing with the public and has responded to many emergencies, some of which involved life-or-death situations. In every situation, Michael remains calm, clear-headed, and performs all procedures as he had
been trained to do. Young adults like Michael give me hope for the future of our country!” This is Michael’s second year working fulltime during the summer for OCBP. “It’s a great competitive environment that pushes me physically to improve myself and make faster decisions. I look forward to coming back to Ocean City every summer to work for Beach Patrol,” states Michael.
Each year, Ocean City Beach Patrol hosts crew competitions that are designed to build camaraderie amongst their crews. It is a series of competitions focused around elements of being a surf rescue technician for OCBP. Competitions include a paddleboard relay, landline race, runswim-run relay, soft sand relay, and tug of war. The OCBP protects the Ocean City waters from the inlet CONTINUED FROM A-1

NEWARK, DE - The Maryland Legends ended their summer tournament schedule with a game close to home on the beautiful field at the University of Delaware. The night was a special night as three Legends players closed the chapter with the Legends and now prepare to move off to play baseball at the college level. Sean Deaner, Matty Lynch and Jacob Whiteman have been playing for the Legends for almost 10 years. They occassionally faced each other in High School competition but in the summers and on tournament weekends these three were Legends brothers. Sean played at Aberdeen High School while Matty Lynch played for the Rising Sun Tigers and Jacob Whiteman led the North East Indians to a State Semifinals appearance his senior year. Now Matty and Jacob prepare to move into their dorms at Towson University
to play for the Towson Tigers. Sean Deaner will be going further away for his college experience as he is enrolled at Elmira College in Elmira, New York and will joining the Elmira College Eagles baseball team. Years of dedication and practice under the guidance of Maryland Legends Coach Ed Lynch have helped to get the trio offers to play in college. No one felt the emotions of the night more than Coach Lynch. “I’m really going to miss these boys” said Coach Lynch. “They have been with the Legends a long time and I’ve watched them grow up into fine young men.” After the game family and friends waited outside the gate to the dugouts for photos and some younger Legends in attendance asking for them to autograph baseballs. Let’s hope in a few short years that these three are still signing baseballs for fans at Major League games.
