Komiks ng Kahandaan is an education, education, and communication (IEC) material produced to demonstrate how families and communities could prepare for typhoon hazards especially in the urban context. The comics highlights the immense importance of an early warning system familiar to all members of the community and a local local government unit that ensures its constituents' needs and well-being from providing warning signals to evacuation center management. This is community-based disaster risk reduction and management, illustrated.
This comics was produced through the two-year project of Disaster Risk Reduction Network Philippines (DRRNetPhils) entitled 'Securing the Safety of Informal Settler Families in Metro Manila,' implemented with the Department of Interior and Local Government, and support from DFAT-Australia Aid. The project has served 115 barangays with close to 20,000 prioritized informal settlers in high risk areas in ten cities traversing eight waterways.
