Hello, and welcome to the 2026 Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show!
As this year’s President of The Guild, I want to personally thank you for being here and supporting this very special event.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, and it can be diagnosed at any age. The funds raised today will help provide medical supplies and direct assistance to patients at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, while also supporting critical research in pursuit of a cure.
I am deeply grateful for our generous sponsors, Guild members, and volunteers. Because of you, The Guild, in partnership with the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, can support impactful programs such

You can catch Michael Spencer anchoring CBS News Colorado at five, six and 10 p.m. every weeknight alongside his co-anchor Karen Leigh. Michael joined CBS Colorado as Sports Anchor in June of 2016 and made the switch to the news desk in April of 2023. His first assignment for CBS Colorado was at The White House covering the Super Bowl 50 Champion Denver Broncos as they celebrated their Super Bowl victory with President Obama. During his career in sports Michael has covered the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Colorado Avalanche run to the Stanley Cup Final.
Michael graduated from the University of Missouri in 2010 and started his broadcasting career in Midland, Texas covering the Friday Night Lights of high school football. After Midland, Michael moved to Amarillo, Texas and then Knoxville, Tennessee before arriving in Colorado. Michael is married to his wife Hailey, and the couple have two daughters. Michael and Hailey enjoy being involved in the community. In addition to his role with the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and serving as emcee for the Brass Ring Luncheon, Michael has served as the emcee for The Carousel Ball, the Donor Alliance Donor Dash and the TAPS Colorado Celebrity Classic. He and his family love working with non-profit organizations that make a difference in the lives of families in Colorado.
This prestigious award was created to honor an individual who displays incredible dedication and support of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and makes a lasting difference in the type 1 community. Our hope is that T1D Changemakers will continue to be recognized in years to come for driving meaningful change and playing an integral role in the education, support, advocacy, and research that drives The Guild’s mission. This award stands as a symbol of deep gratitude for the dedicated community members whose passions amplify our initiatives, progressing the future of T1D.
LisaCorley, a Colorado native, possesses more than 25 years of experience in legal administration, law firm management, organizational behavior, and lawyer hiring and training. She worked with Kutak Rock; Davis, Graham & Stubbs; LeBeauf Lamb Greene & McRae; and Sherman & Howard over the course of her legal career.
Lisa is a passionate philanthropist and community advocate, with over 30 years of service in the nonprofit sector. She has been an active member of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (CDF) for more than two decades and led as Guild President through the unprecedented challenges during the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
Lisa was instrumental in helping transition Guild programming, fundraising, and member engagement to a virtual and hybrid environment, ensuring continuity of support for children and adults living with type 1 diabetes.
Throughout her long-standing involvement with CDF, Lisa has taken on numerous leadership roles including Co-Chair of The Carousel
Ball silent auction and Chair of the Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and A Precious Child. She has also previously served as a board member of Warren Village.
Together with her husband, Tom, Lisa manages their private family foundation and has contributed her time and expertise to a wide range of organizations, including Craig Hospital Foundation, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Junior League of Denver, Kemp Center, Valor Christian High School, Adams County Head Start, and K’iin Beh Foundation, a nonprofit in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
In her personal life, Lisa enjoys organizing family events, reunions, and vacations as well as planning and hosting gatherings for special causes, holidays, and friends. She and Tom have been married for 40 years and are proud parents of two grown sons, Alex and Spencer, who live in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York.
Zang Toi is a renowned fashion designer who has built a tradition of elegance for over thirty years. Coming from humble beginnings, Zang was born and raised in a small village, Kuala Krai in Kelantan, Malaysia. He was the youngest of seven children of a local grocer. Zang landed in New York City at the age of twenty where he studied at the distinguished Parsons School of Design. In August 1989, he opened his atelier and soon after, American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour featured Zang in March 1990 issue and was one of the first Asian designers championed by the renowned editor. In 1990, Zang was awarded the Mouton Cadet Young Designer of the Year which recognizes the top, young, American designer of the year. In a Newsday article published in 1991, Frank De Caro enthusiastically noted of the Malaysian-born designer and his success, “If anyone is the next big thing, it’s him.” (Newsday, New York, 29 April 1991).
Since that time, Zang’s work has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, and Financial Times.
Not only has he dressed Hollywood celebrities such as Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor, Farrah Fawcett, Kristie Alley, Joan Collin, Patti LaBelle, Mia Farrow, Eartha Kitt, Ivana Trump, Gong Li, Carol Alt, Fran Drescher, Kelly Bensimon, Eva Longoria, Devon Aoki, Fergie (Black Eyed Peas) and Heather Graham, but has also created luxurious wardrobe for
philanthropists and royalty including Melinda Gates and Saudi Princess Haifa Bandar Al Saud.
Along with his passion for glamorous fashion, Zang Toi is committed to philanthropy, particularly in supporting cancer charities and fundraising initiatives for research and a cure. Zang’s continued success was recognized by Vivid Magazine where he was named as one of the Top Eight Most Influential Chinese Americans (June-July 2011 issue).
Today, the world continues to recognize Zang’s passion for timeless beauty as he builds on a strong tradition of elegance.

Charlie Price is an award-winning hairstylist who travels the world inspiring and entertaining other hairstylists. His career has been wide and varied in scope. He has seen his photo work published globally and collaborated with many product manufacturers such as Aveda, Sassoon and Revlon Professional. He has created runway looks as lead hairstylist at NY Fashion Week for designers such as Jason Wu, Jeremy Scott and Cynthia Rowley—and even made a memorable appearance on Shear Genius, the Bravo TV series about hairdressers which aired in 22 countries. Price was also instrumental in bringing fashion designers Richard Tyler and Vivienne Westwood to The Denver Art Museum to mount shows (and Westwood’s first ever museum exhibition). When he’s not behind the chair tending to the manes of clients (as he has for the last 35 years), he focuses on his latest projects; he produces runway shows and photo shoots for a variety of designers, organizations and publications through the CO-OP Fashion Collective.

Formore than two decades, Cheryl has combined her passion for design with a deeply personal connection to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. As a mother of four sons-two of whom have type 1 diabetesand having lost her father 20 years ago to complications from the disease, she understands firsthand the challenges families face, as well as the hope and support organizations like the Barbara Davis Center, The Guild, and the Children’s Diabetes Foundation provide. Cheryl has designed invitations, programs, and the logos for both the Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show and Jewels for Hope, helping bring the Foundation’s events and mission to life with thoughtful, memorable design.
With over 30 years of graphic design experience, Cheryl is a senior-level graphic designer who partners with organizations needing consistent, professional design support. She collaborates with teams that value creativity, clarity, and purposeful storytelling, often serving as an embedded design resource for ongoing projects. Today we pray for all the kids and adults who live with type 1 diabetes every day. We pray for the doctors and nurses who help keep us healthy and who take care of us when things are hard. We pray for the scientists and researchers who are working really hard to find better treatments and, someday, a cure. And we pray for the people who make the rules and decisions, so they keep supporting funding and progress toward a cure. We are thankful for our devices that help us know our numbers, and for candy and juice that help us when our blood sugar is low. We are thankful for diabetes camps, where we get to have fun, feel normal, and make friends who understand what it’s like. We are also thankful for service dogs who help take care of us, especially my dog Macky, who helps comfort me. And today we are thankful for everyone here—for being here, for being kind, and for supporting the diabetes community.

Dr.Robert Slover had a major impact on pediatric endocrinology and diabetes during his long career. He was known for his compassion and commitment to the highest level of patient care to thousands of patients and families. He served as a mentor and educator for faculty, fellows, residents and students at the Colorado University Anschutz Medical Campus. His research contributions as a clinical investigator impacted clinical care of diabetes at the international level. Prior to joining the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) in 1994, he contributed 20 years of service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1994.
When Dr. Slover joined the BDC, he engaged in clinical care, clinical research, and administrative roles. His clinical research most recently focused on the implementation of diabetes technology and the artificial pancreas to benefit pediatric and young adult patients with type 1 diabetes. He served as the site principal investigator for several studies at the Barbara Davis Center, including pre-pivotal and pivotal trials of hybrid closed loop systems in children as young as 8 years. In addition, he authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications.
From 2011 to 2021, Dr. Slover served as the Director of the Barbara Davis Center Pediatric Clinic and was the first holder of the Wagner Family Chair in Childhood Diabetes. He was a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. During his time as director, the division doubled its clinical and research operations.
The impact he had during his career will continue to benefit countless colleagues, trainees, patients and families for many years to come. In honor of Dr. Slover, we have named the Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show patients who walk the runway “Slover’s Heroes.”

Liz has worked as a dietitian and diabetes educator in the Barbara Davis Center Adult Clinic for nearly 10 years. She specializes in insulin pump and CGM training, new onset education, pregnancy counseling, and supports a variety of research studies at the BDC.
Administrative Assistant
Athena has been part of the Barbara Davis Center team for 17 years. She enjoys game nights and outdoor hikes with her family and feels grateful to do work she truly loves while advocating for patients and staying deeply involved in the diabetes community.
Healthcare Technician
Heidi is a dedicated eye technician at the Barbara Davis Center Eye Clinic. Inspired by her daughter’s diagnosis of type 1 diabetes at age four, she has devoted her career to supporting the diabetes community and providing compassionate patient care.
Senior Clinical Science Professional
Matthew grew up in Denver and studied comparative literature at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Inspired by his mother, who lives with type 1 diabetes, he began his research career at the Barbara Davis Center and is currently applying to medical school.
Clinic Operations Coordinator
Olivia has worked at the Barbara Davis Center for 19 years and serves as Clinic Operations Coordinator for the Adult Clinic. She is a mother of two and has lived with type 1 diabetes alongside two sisters who also have the condition, bringing both personal and professional perspective to her work.
Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics
Dr. Polsky is the Director of the Pregnancy and Women’s Health Clinic at the Barbara Davis Center. Her research focuses on diabetes technologies, therapies, and improving care for adults and pregnant women living with type 1 diabetes.
Director of Finance and Administration
Robby is part of the Executive Leadership Team at the Barbara Davis Center. He leads financial and administrative strategy to support the Center’s mission and enjoys spending time outdoors and relaxing with his two dogs.
Senior Database Manager
Daniel has worked at the Barbara Davis Center for 12 years and serves as Senior Database Manager. He focuses on implementing technology and maintaining data integrity to ensure accurate information supports groundbreaking type 1 diabetes research.
Registered Nurse, Adult Clinic
Julie is a Registered Nurse at the Barbara Davis Center Adult Clinic. After seven years providing inpatient pediatric care, she now combines her clinical experience with her own 20-year journey living with type 1 diabetes to provide compassionate and relatable care.
SMITH Nurse Instructor
Sidney is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist working with children and families at the Barbara Davis Center. She also supports the Early T1D Clinic administering Tzield infusions and is passionate about education, screening, and prevention.
Director, Clinical Epidemiology Division
Dr. Snell-Bergeon is a professor and researcher who studies how type 1 diabetes affects heart health, particularly in women. Her work also examines the impact of reproductive health and pregnancy in women living with type 1 diabetes at the Barbara Davis Center.
JESSICA STOUGHTON Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Jessica previously worked as a nurse at Children’s Hospital Colorado for seven years before becoming a nurse practitioner and joining the Barbara Davis Center. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, camping, and running.
Lindsey, a Colorado native and longtime BDC patient, works on the Panther Research team specializing in pediatric type 1 diabetes technology studies. She is passionate about helping bring new diabetes devices from concept to reality at the Barbara Davis Center.
Dr. Wadwa is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and Director of the Pediatric Clinic at the Barbara Davis Center. His research focuses on diabetes technology and the impact of telemedicine on pediatric diabetes care.

Proceeds from this event directly fund essential programs like Helping Hand, which provides financial aid for diabetes supplies and travel expenses, and Holiday Assistance, which brings meals and gifts to families in need. These programs create meaningful opportunities and essential support for those navigating life with type 1 diabetes.
This program assists families in times of exceptional need. This includes purchasing diabetes supplies, helping with travel expenses to get to appointments, and other supplemental funds as necessary. Proper supplies, education, and care allow a patient to properly manage diabetes; by bettering their care now, their risk for long term complications is much lower.
This program provides financial support for pregnant women with type 1 diabetes to ensure they have the proper technology, supplies, and associated appointment funds to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. The program serves at-risk pregnant women who do not have access to Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems and other related resources that are crucial for the intricate diabetes management required during pregnancy.
Every year, the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, with the support of The Guild, provides meal and gift assistance for patients and families at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Proceeds from the Brass Ring Luncheon will be used to assist the roughly 120 families and 350 children in need who apply each year. Often, this assistance is what allows families to have a meal on the table for the holidays and gifts for the children to enjoy.
This 3-day camp is hosted by the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Colorado Soccer Foundation each summer. It uniquely caters specifically to the type 1 experience, with medical staff onsite to help manage diabetes care, allowing parents peace of mind and kids the opportunity to make friends just like them. Camp features soccer, arts and crafts, team building, and more!
Boo Bash is a Halloween celebration specially designed for children aged 2-12 with type 1 diabetes and their families. This fun-filled event provides a safe and inclusive environment where young patients can enjoy the magic of Halloween without worrying about the challenges of managing their diabetes. Boo Bash features costume contests, games, crafts, and treats, ensuring a memorable experience for kids and their loved ones.

Each year, Thollot & Co. brings the community together through the Diamonds for Diabetes Gala, an annual event dedicated to supporting children living with type 1 diabetes.
This year’s gala raised over $37,000, resulting in a total giving to date of over $300,000 in support of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. These funds help provide critical resources and diabetic supplies to children and families in the Denver area where support is needed most.
Through auctions, Giving Trees, and shared community generosity, Diamonds for Diabetes continues to make a meaningful difference. When we all come together, the impact extends far beyond one evening.
