Senior Citizens Rally; Lash Lind, say on Tax Bill By John Neubert The brassy sound of "Everyf.hing'a Comin' Up Roses" rang out from a high school band in front of New York's Hall Monday, but just across Broadway, on. Murray Street, more than 1,000 senior citizens from United HousFoundation (UHi<') were rallying to prove otherwise. They were there to plead for a dying piece of legislation-the bill allowing New York City to grant full tax abatement for citizens, over 65, who earn less than $4,500 per year, and who live in Mitchell-Lama housing developments. A festival to commemorate. the 88th birthday of the Brooklyn Bridge occupied the immediate front of City Hall, but those festivities couldn't overshadow the sincere concern of the senior citizens who assembled to ask Mayor John V. Lindsay to remove his objection to the tax abatement bill-an objection that was spelling doom for the bill. Al Smoke, assistant to the executive vice president of United Housing Foundation, led the list of speakers which included Bronx Borough President Robert Abrams, Ríverbay Corporation Vice President George Schechter, Co-op City's Senior Citizens Club Presidents Sol Oratofsky and Fred Berkowitz, and other representatives of seniors from all housing developments under the umbrella of UHF. Smoke told the seniors the Mayor was affectthe success of the tax abatement bill in "The bill was passed in both " he "and it was for the Governor's signature. lt was recalled to the on Page
