Fatal Bus Stop Crash By DANIELLE CRUZ
On Tuesday, April 21, at approximately 1:30 p.m. a 72-year-old woman was fatally struck after a car crashed into a bus stop bench at the intersection of Co-op City Boulevard and Bartow Avenue. According to officials, the crash occurred when a 55-year-old man driving northbound on Co-op City Boulevard suffered a medical episode, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway and into the bench. First responders arrived to find the 72-year-old woman pinned beneath the vehicle with severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased was not a Co-op city shareholder. A 36-year-old man who had been sitting on the bench, along with the driver of the vehicle, were transported to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition for treatment, officials said. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
