This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home— setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. GOD IS WITH US Pentecost Acts 1—2 God sent the Holy Spirit to the new Christians on Pentecost. When we choose to follow God, we can have the assurance that the Holy Spirit is always with us.
JUST FOR FUN Tell your children that you have a surprise for them, but they must wait in their room until you call them. Wait a few minutes before calling. Then, give them a small treat like a piece of candy or a small toy. Discuss together if it was hard or easy to wait. Read Acts 2:1–12. The disciples had to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit, but Jesus kept His word when He sent the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. The Holy Spirit gave the disciples strength and power to do everything God had planned for them. Pray together, thanking God that He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us too!
REMEMBER VERSE You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28

Summer Lesson 4
DID YOU KNOW? • The arrival of the Holy Spirit was signified by a loud sound, like that of a rushing wind. • When the Holy Spirit came, the event marked an age for Christians where God now dwells in His people rather than just with His people. • The Holy Spirit is an internal compass that gives His people the strength and power they need to do what He calls them to.
DEVELOPMENT Your child may be able to articulate right from wrong but may still need reminders to make the right choices. Be patient, continuing to gently correct your child’s course when necessary.
TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading the Scripture passage, discuss the following together: • How do you think God’s people felt at first when Jesus returned to heaven? • What would you have thought if you heard the loud rushing sound when the Holy Spirit came down? • How does it make you feel to know that God is always with you?
BLESSING A blessing can be a spoken prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words of encouragement and guidance over your child. For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource @ HomeFrontMag.com. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you always remember that God is with you and that His Spirit will give you everything you need to follow Him each day.
