This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource is a monthly magazine that gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. JESUS IS THE GOOD NEWS Death/Resurrection—Great Commission Matthew 27:28—28:20 After Jesus died on the cross, He rose again and appeared to many people, including His disciples. He told His followers to go and make disciples of all nations. Jesus also promised that the Holy Spirit would come to help share the good news of salvation.
JUST FOR FUN Do you have a special card or letter you received in the mail? Pull it out to show your family. Discuss some times when it was fun to receive a piece of mail or hear good news through a telephone call. Read Matthew 28:18–20. Think about the good news that Jesus invites us to share with others. Take a few minutes to create a good news card with a piece of paper. Write down what your family wants to tell others about following Jesus.
REMEMBER VERSE You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28

Summer Lesson 3
DID YOU KNOW? • The last thing Jesus did before going back into heaven was tell His disciples to share the good news about salvation. • Jesus’ command to His disciples is called the Great Commission. • The Great Commission is a call to action for all followers of Jesus.
DEVELOPMENT Young children get excited about simple things such as a trip to the store or park. When your child learns something new about God, use that as occasion to celebrate together and show your excitement that he is learning more about our good God.
TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading the Scripture passage, discuss the following together: • How did the women act when they saw Jesus again? • How do you think the disciples felt when Jesus told them to share the good news? • What makes you most excited about Jesus?
BLESSING A blessing can be a spoken prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words of encouragement and guidance over your child. For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource @ HomeFrontMag.com. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you share that Jesus is the Good News with everyone you meet this week.
