This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource is a monthly resource that gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. GOD IS TRUSTWORTHY Peter in Prison Acts 12:1–17 Peter was taken to prison for talking about Jesus. The people of God prayed for Peter. God answered their prayers by sending an angel who led Peter out of jail to safety.
JUST FOR FUN Take turns telling knock-knock jokes. After everyone has had a turn telling her favorite joke, share that you’re going to read a part of The Big God Story where Peter knocked on the door and no one believed it was him. Explain to your children that Peter had just been rescued from prison by an angel. He knew it was God who sent the angel to free him. Then read Acts 12:11–17. Ask your children why they think no one believed it was Peter knocking at the door. Discuss how God can be trusted to take care of us even when it seems impossible.
REMEMBER VERSE May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Summer Lesson 10
• At the time of Peter’s imprisonment, the early church was growing very quickly. • Jewish leaders asked Herod to do something to stop the growth of the church, which led to the persecution of the disciples. • When Peter was arrested, believers gathered and prayed fervently. God responded with Peter’s miraculous release by an angel.
DEVELOPMENT Be sure to keep the promises you make to your children. Modeling trustworthiness is the best way for your child to learn that God is trustworthy.
TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading the Scripture passage, discuss the following together: • Do you think Peter was happy or sad when he saw the angel? • How do you think you would feel if you saw an angel? • Who did Peter go to see after he was freed from prison?
BLESSING A blessing can be a spoken prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words of encouragement and guidance over your child. For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource @ HomeFrontMag.com. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), May you always remember that you can trust God.
