This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them.

Fall Lesson 1

• The word genesis means “origin.” The book of Genesis is the story of our origins—from the beginning of the universe to the creation of mankind in God’s image. • God created and then looked upon His world with approval, as He “saw that it was good.” • From the very beginning, mankind was charged to be a faithful steward of God’s creation.

GOD IS CREATOR

DEVELOPMENT

Creation Genesis 1—2:14 God created all things by speaking them into existence. All of creation served God and worshipped Him.

Preschoolers have an ever-increasing vocabulary and are often curious about nature. As you tell the story of creation, be sure to allow time for the inevitable “how,” “what,” and “why” questions your child will ask.

JUST FOR FUN

After reading the Scripture passage, discuss the following together: • What kind of things did God create? • What might God want us to learn from the part of The Big God Story that tells us about His creation of the world? • What are some ways I can celebrate that God is the Creator?

Spend some time in God’s creation. Go on a nature walk. If you live in an urban area, take your kids to a community garden or local arboretum. As you walk, point out different pieces of nature and explain that God created them. Read Genesis 1—2:14. Remind your kids that everything they see around them is a part of what God created.

REMEMBER VERSE You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things. Revelation 4:11b

TEACHABLE MOMENTS

BLESSING A blessing can be a spoken prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words of encouragement and guidance over your child. For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource @ HomeFrontMag.com. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you know the Lord your Creator who loves you. May you praise God and share His story with others.
