This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word before your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting ResourceThis magazine gives families ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in their homes—setting aside a sacred space for family in the midst of their active, everyday lives! As the new issue becomes available each month, you may choose to print it for families, or you may encourage them to visit www.HomeFrontMag.com where they can subscribe to the print edition or have a digital copy sent directly to their inboxes.

DID YOU KNOW? • Faith is a combination of believing and action. Without faith, it’s impossible to please God. • God promised to bless Abraham and to make him the father of many nations, despite the fact that Abraham and his wife were advanced in years and had no children. • Abraham chose to have faith in God’s promises, and that faith was credited to him as righteousness.

REMEMBER VERSE GOD LOVES FAITH Part of The Big God Story Genesis 12:1–7; 15; 17:1–8; Hebrews 11:8–10

JUST FOR FUN Have your children sit in a circle and close their eyes. Then take a few familiar objects (books, toys, fruit, candy, etc.) and place them in their hands. See if they can guess what each item is by touching it. Once you’ve given them time to tell you what each object is, ask how they knew what it was without seeing it. Then read Hebrews 11:1–3. Discuss that “faith” means believing without seeing.

DEVELOPMENTALLY SPEAKING When your child is impatient while waiting for a promised treat or reward, be understanding. While she may understand basic concepts of time such as now, soon, or later, she may not be able to comprehend the actual length of an hour, week, or month.

“The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Psalm 33:11 TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • How do you think Abraham felt when God chose to make these promises to him? • How would you feel if God asked you to leave your home and follow Him to a new and different land? • What are some ways you can show your faith in God?

BLESSING For more information about blessing your child see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you trust in the Lord with all your heart. He is faithful and will keep His promises for all time. (Reference Deuteronomy 7:9)
