ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES For Sunday, June 12, 2016

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word BEFORE your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them.

Summer Lesson #2

• Peter is often remembered as the disciple who denied Christ three times before His crucifixion. But Scripture shows that during the times Peter waswith Jesus, he was bold and confident. • Peter’s boldness and confidence before the Sanhedrin came from the Holy Spirit. • The presence of God transformed Peter from a coward into a bold defender of the faith. • The Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives inspires us to be bold in our faith.

GOD IS TRUTH

YOUNGER KIDS

Peter and John before the Sanhedrin Acts 3—4 Peter and John appear before the Sanhedrin. Even though they might feel afraid to talk about Jesus and what He’s done for them, the Holy Spirit fills them with boldness to share God’s truth with others.

Allow your child the opportunityto voice his opinion whenever appropriate. Speaking up when his opinion differs from those around him will help foster boldness in sharing that God is truth with others.

JUST FOR FUN Take a bold step: Choose a night to turn off all electronic devices and spend the night as a family— without interruption. Use this time to connect and spend quality time with each other. Read Acts 4:1–20. Discuss how the Holy Spirit transformed Peter into a bold defender of God’s truth. In what situations might the Holy Spirit help you as you share the good news of Jesus with others?

REMEMBER VERSE But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

OLDER KIDS Your child likely will have many friends who don’t share her faith. Remind her of the importance of praying for the lost, and encourage her to pray for lost friends by name.

TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading the Scripture passage, discuss the following together: • Peter and John were bold together as they shared God’s truth. Do you have any friends who encourage you to be bold in your faith? • What happened when people recognized the courage of Peter and John? • How might God want you to share His truth with others this week?

BLESSING A blessing can be a spoken prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words of encouragement and guidance over your child. For more information about blessing your child, see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource @ HomeFrontMag.com A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may your understanding of God’s truth grow more and more, and may His truth lead you in every area of your life.
