ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES For Sunday, October 11, 2015

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in God’s Word before your children attend church. Because God’s plan is for parents to be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children’s faith, we want YOU to be the one to introduce this part of The Big God Story to them. HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home—setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives. REMEMBER & CELEBRATE Remembering and Celebrating God as Deliverer: Passover

JUST FOR FUN Enjoy a special dessert after dinner. While you’re enjoying your treat, ask each person the following question: “How would you describe God?” After everyone answers, read 2 Samuel 22:1–4. Discuss together how David described God.

YOUNGER KIDS Your child will more clearly remember the parts of The Big God Story that speak to his heart. Ask him to remember one part of the story he’s heard at home and in church. Then celebrate everything God’s been teaching him.

OLDER KIDS Your child can reflect on the many ways God works in her life. Talk with her about the ways she’s seen God deliver her. Celebrate God’s deliverance by praying and thanking Him for all He’s done.

DID YOU KNOW? • The Israelite people celebrated seven festivals and feasts: Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Festival of First Fruits, Feast of Harvest, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths). • During the feasts, the Israelites ate, danced, sang, played instruments, prayed, and offered sacrifices to God. • During the Feast of the Passover, the Israelites remembered their deliverance from the Egyptians and celebrated God as their deliverer. • The Feast of Passover was fulfilled by the death of the Messiah.

TEACHABLE MOMENTS After reading Scripture, discuss the following together: • What are some of the ways God has protected our family? • Remind your children that God still delivers us today. Ask them if they know how. Then explain that God delivers us from sin through Jesus. He sent Jesus to die for our sins, giving us a way to spend eternity with Him. • Pray together, praising and thanking God for His deliverance from sin.

BLESSING For more information about blessing your child see the Blessing section in HomeFront: A Spiritual Parenting Resource. A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you always remember the many ways God is at work in your life. May you take time to celebrate the ways He protects you and provides for you.
