Ice Fishing What You Need: Clear, plastic cup; water; ice cubes; string; salt; and scissors What You Do: Cut the string to about 12-inches. Fill the cup about ¾ full of water. Right before the activity, add four to six ice cubes to the cup. (Here are some pictures to help you visualize what you are doing: https://pin.it/2tVKN03) Say, “We are going to fish for ice. Lay your string on the ice. Count to ten with me. (Count.) Pick your string up. Did you catch anything? (Listen.) No, let’s try it again. I’ll add a little salt over the string. (Sprinkle a shake or two over the string.) Let’s count again. (Count to ten.) Lift your string. (Pause.) Did you catch anything this time?” (Listen.) NOTE: Too much salt will make the ice melt too fast and the string won’t stick. Wait too long, and the string will fall off again. If you don’t wait long enough, the ice cube will fall off when you pick it up. Have fun and experiment! Repeat as many times as desired.
Bible Story Catching Fish (Luke 5:1-10)
After the activity, say, “In our story, Jesus went fishing with Peter and they caught so many fish that they filled two boats! Jesus did something AMAZING that only He could do! Jesus is amazing. Who is amazing? Jesus is amazing!”
Remember This “Everyone who heard him was amazed.” Luke 2:47, NIV
Say This Who is amazing? Jesus is amazing.
Prayer “God, thank you for sending Jesus, your only son! Peter caught so many fish that they filled two boats. Only Jesus could do that because Jesus is amazing. Thank you for Jesus, our friend forever. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.”
