At Corpus Christi College, we believe every child should have opportunities to discover and develop their unique gifts and talents. The Corpus Young Musicians Band Program (Year 5) has been created to introduce students to the rewarding world of instrumental music. Through learning, rehearsing and performing together, students will develop musical skills while building confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging. Whether taking their first musical steps or exploring a growing interest in music, students will be supported by experienced tutors and a vibrant community of young musicians. The program provides a pathway into the rich musical life of the College and lays the foundation for future participation in ensembles, performances and co-curricular opportunities throughout their years at Corpus Christi College.

WELCOME
A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF MUSIC Music has the power to challenge, inspire and connect. Learning an instrument is about far more than playing notes on a page. Through music, students discover the rewards of perseverance, the satisfaction of achievement and the joy of creating something meaningful with others. The Corpus Young Musicians Band Program (Year 5) has been designed as a supportive and engaging introduction to instrumental music. Students will learn from specialist tutors, perform as part of an ensemble and experience the unique sense of accomplishment that comes from developing a new skill. Most importantly, students will become part of a musical community where they are encouraged to learn, grow and contribute alongside their peers. WHY MUSIC? WHY LEARN AN INSTRUMENT COURAGE Learning something new takes courage. From playing their first notes to performing in front of an audience, students grow in confidence as they embrace challenges, take risks and discover what they are capable of achieving.
COMMITMENT Progress in music comes through regular practice, persistence and effort. Students learn that meaningful achievement takes time, developing discipline, resilience and responsibility as they work towards their goals.
COMPASSION Music is a shared experience that brings people together. As members of an ensemble, students learn to listen, support one another and contribute to a common purpose. Along the way, they develop creativity, build lasting friendships and experience a genuine sense of belonging within a musical community. Through music, students not only develop musical skills but also the confidence, perseverance and connection that will benefit them throughout their lives.

ABOUT THE PROGRA BECOMING A CORPUS YOUNG MUSICIAN
The Corpus Young Musicians Band Program (Year 5) provides students with a structured introduction to instrumental music in a supportive and engaging environment. Students accepted into the program will: • • • • • •
Learn a concert band instrument with a specialist instrumental tutor. Participate in weekly small-group tuition. Develop music reading, listening and performance skills. Rehearse and perform as part of a concert band. Participate in school concerts and community performances. Begin a musical pathway that can continue throughout their years at Corpus Christi College.
WHAT IS INCLUDED? SPECIALIST INSTRUMENTAL TUITION
INSTRUMENT HIRE
Students will receive one small-group lesson each week during the school day with a specialist instrumental tutor.
A school instrument will be provided for the duration of the program, allowing students to explore instrumental music without the need for an initial instrument purchase.
Lessons focus on: • • • • •
Instrument technique. Music reading. Listening skills. Performance skills. Musical confidence.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES Students will perform throughout the year at a variety of school and community events, developing confidence and musicianship through authentic performance experiences.
ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS Students will attend two rehearsals each week before school: • One sectional rehearsal (Woodwind, Brass or Percussion). • One full Concert Band rehearsal. These rehearsals provide students with the opportunity to learn alongside their peers and experience the rewards of ensemble music-making.

INSTRUMENT DISCOVERY DAY FIND THE PERFECT FIT
All Year 4 students will participate in an Instrument Discovery Day during Term 3.
THIS EXCITING EXPERIENCE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO: • • • • •
Meet specialist instrumental tutors. Learn about each instrument family. Explore the instruments offered within the program. Try selected instruments. Discover which instruments may best suit their interests and abilities.
The Discovery Day is designed to help students make informed choices while encouraging excitement and curiosity about learning music.

SELECTION PROCESS
HOW STUDENTS ARE SELECTED Places in the Corpus Young Musicians Band Program (Year 5) are limited to ensure balanced ensembles and highquality instruction. Following the Instrument Discovery Day, students will nominate their preferred instruments.
INSTRUMENT ALLOCATIONS WILL CONSIDER: • • • •
Student interest and enthusiasm. Instrument suitability. Instrument availability. Balanced ensemble requirements.
Families will be advised of outcomes later in the year.

WOODWIND SECTION •

Flute Bright, expressive and versatile, the flute often carries melodic lines and adds sparkle to the overall band sound. Clarinet Warm and flexible, the clarinet plays an important role throughout the concert band and is used across a wide range of musical styles. Saxophone Known for its rich tone and versatility, the saxophone is one of the most recognisable instruments in the ensemble.

Trumpet Bold and energetic, the trumpet often features melodic and fanfarestyle passages within the band. French Horn Rich and distinctive, the French horn contributes depth, warmth and colour to the ensemble. Trombone A powerful and versatile instrument, the trombone supports both melody and harmony within the band. Baritone The baritone provides a warm and supportive sound that forms an important part of the band's foundation.
RHYTHM SECTION •

Percussion Percussionists perform on a variety of instruments and provide rhythm, energy and momentum for the ensemble. Bass Guitar The bass guitar forms the musical foundation of the band, connecting rhythm and harmony while supporting the overall sound.

PROGRAM FEES INVESTMENT IN LEARNING
SEMESTER 1 $125 This contribution assists with the cost of specialist instrumental tuition and includes the use of a College instrument.
SEMESTER 2 $250 Students who wish to continue their musical journey in Semester 2 may do so at a significantly reduced cost compared to regular instrumental tuition.

The Corpus Young Musicians Band Program (Year 5) is designed to be the first step in a student's musical journey at Corpus Christi College.
Music has the unique ability to inspire, challenge and connect people.
Students who continue will have opportunities to further develop their musical skills through instrumental tuition, ensembles, performances and co-curricular music opportunities in the Senior School. Over time, the broader Corpus Young Musicians Program will continue to grow, creating additional opportunities for students to engage with music through pathways such as strings, choral and contemporary music.
The Corpus Young Musicians Band Program (Year 5) provides students with the opportunity to discover new talents, develop valuable life skills and experience the joy of making music together. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort of young musicians and supporting them as they begin an exciting musical journey at Corpus Christi College.

THE CORPUS MUSIC PATHWAY WHERE CAN MUSIC TAKE YOU?
The Corpus Music Pathway provides students with a progressive and rewarding musical journey from their first experiences with an instrument through to advanced ensemble performance and leadership opportunities. Each year level builds on the skills, confidence and musicianship developed in the previous stage, encouraging students to grow as performers, collaborators and creative thinkers. Along the way, students have opportunities to participate in ensembles, performances, workshops and tours, fostering a lifelong appreciation of music while becoming valued members of the College's vibrant music community.

FAQ's
PROGRAM ANSWERS DO I NEED TO OWN AN INSTRUMENT? No. Students will be provided with a College instrument for the duration of the program.
MY CHILD HAS NEVER PLAYED AN INSTRUMENT BEFORE. CAN THEY STILL APPLY? Absolutely. The program is designed for beginners and no previous instrumental experience is required.
HOW ARE INSTRUMENTS ALLOCATED? Students will participate in the Instrument Discovery Day and nominate their preferences. Instrument allocations are based on student interest, suitability, availability and balanced ensemble requirements.
CAN STUDENTS CONTINUE AFTER THE FIRST SEMESTER? Yes. Students who wish to continue will have the opportunity to do so in Semester 2.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD DECIDES MUSIC IS NOT FOR THEM? The first semester is designed as an introductory experience, allowing students to explore instrumental music before making longer-term commitments.
