Nostalgia is all about the memories, music, moments and experiences that stay with us long after they’ve passed. It’s that feeling of looking back with fondness at the people, places and times that have shaped who we are.

This year’s Dance Gala explores those ideas inspired by memories, different eras and the music that connect us all. Across two exciting nights, our students will showcase a range of works developed both in class and through our co-curricular

From energetic and entertaining pieces to more reflective and emotional works, each performance highlights the creativity, commitment and passion of our dancers. We are also excited to feature special guest performances from our recent production of Shrek the Musical, bringing another layer of energy, fun and performance to this year’s Gala. Tonight is a celebration of dance, creativity and community, and we are so excited to share it with you. We hope these performances spark memories, bring a smile to your face and leave you feeling nostalgic.

DANCE CAPTAINS WELCOME DANCE CAPTAINS WELCOME

As the 2026 Dance Captains, we have been so proud to be part of such a hardworking and talented group of dancers who have made this year truly special. The dedication shown by every dancer has been incredible, and through all the early mornings, recess, lunch, and after-school rehearsals, each person has brought their own positive energy and commitment to our dance community.

There has been so much time and effort put into this year’s Dance Gala, and it truly reflects the teamwork, creativity and commitment of everyone involved. Each dance group at Corpus has worked hard all year, collaborating and workshopping ideas to create performances they can be proud of.

Earlier in the year, Ensemble dancers had the opportunity to participate in contemporary workshops with Australian choreographer Scott Ewen, where we explored partnering, lifts and new choreography that were later incorporated into our pieces. We were also fortunate to learn from Ausdance’s Amy Wiseman, gaining valuable insight from experienced dancers. These opportunities helped strengthen our technical skills and build stronger connections with one another, allowing us to bring the creative intent of each dance to life.

We are also grateful to have Livvy Leech (Class of 2025) return to Corpus to support our Dance Alliance program. It has been so special to see former students giving back to the community and inspiring current dancers.

All of the effort put in by students, along with the care and dedication Mrs Caroline Stevenson brings to our dance community, has made this final year at Corpus so special. We want to say a huge thank you for the support given to every dancer and for the passion that makes our program what it is.

We also thank Mr David Mueller for his creativity and ongoing support throughout our journey. Thanks to our teachers, the Dance program at Corpus continues to create such an encouraging and inclusive environment where students can express their passion and connect with one another.

To everyone who has been part of the Arts and Dance program this year, thank you for making it such an enjoyable journey filled with so many memories. We hope all dancers continue to follow their passion and keep growing in the years ahead.

PERFORMANCES PERFORMANCES

IT IS WELL

Senior Dance Collage

This dance, choreographed to the song ‘It Is Well’, explores finding peace and strength through faith, even in moments of uncertainty and challenge. It is inspired by the story of the song’s writer, Horatio Spafford, who wrote the lyrics after losing his four daughters in a tragic shipwreck. As he travelled across the ocean where they had passed, he penned the words as an expression of deep grief, faith and trust in God. The dancers embody trust in God’s presence, expressing the belief that even in difficulty, it is possible to find peace.

Celebrating individuality and originality in today’s day and age is key but unrealistic societal standards, that place restrictions on our authentic selves prohibit us from living a truly fulfilling life. Our dance work explores the desire to stand out and be unique while struggling to fit in and please the public eye.

SING SING SING

Year 9 Semester Class Dance

Set in the 1940s swing era, this dance follows a lively trumpet player who gets the crowd moving at a busy dance hall. After tough times, people come together to forget their worries, have fun and enjoy the exciting spirit of swing.

Year 12 ATAR Group Composition

Inspired by Cyclone Tracy, this work explores the tense build up before the storm, the chaos of its destruction and the emotional aftermath faced by the people of Darwin in 1974.

PLASTIC TIDE

Year 10 Semester Class Dance

‘Plastic Tide’ explores the growing issue of ocean pollution and humanity’s relationship with the natural world. The work examines how plastic waste infiltrates and chokes marine environments, representing both nature’s fluidity and the human-made disruption that contaminates it.

This dance explores the journey from isolation to connection, showing how people grow and thrive when they support one another. Calling on the Xavier motto of ‘Empowered to Achieve’, ‘Dreaming as One’ highlights the idea that while individuals may struggle alone, friendships and teamwork help us overcome challenges and achieve our full potential.

Our dance explores The Great Barrier Reef, an important Australian ecosystem, and highlights the contrast between how it used to be diverse and flourishing with life, and how human actions such as pollution have led to the coral being bleached and dying.

Year 8 Class Dance

Dance Ensemble

This work draws on Heraclitus’ idea that ‘no man ever steps in the same river twice’, exploring a life journey shaped by accumulated experiences, as the individual moves forward while the world around them shifts, resonates, and shapes who they become. By the end, the individual is absorbed into the collective, reflecting how we are ultimately formed by the experiences and influences around us.
