WELCOME TO THE 2026 INTER-HOUSE PLAYS COMPETITION
It is with great excitement that I welcome you to this year’s Inter-House Plays Competition. I feel incredibly fortunate to be coordinating this event again and to witness the enthusiasm, creativity and House spirit that our students bring to this competition. For the second year in a row, the competition has included students from Years 6 to 12. This has created a wonderful opportunity for bonds between year levels to grow and strengthen. We have welcomed back experienced performers, directors and crew members, while also introducing new students to the excitement of creating live theatre. This year, our student directors were challenged to incorporate a random prop into their performance somewhere, and the results have been nothing less than clever and hilarious. I would like to thank the Performing Arts team and our House Community Coordinators for their continued support of the competition. Special thanks to Mr Ryan Gaynor and Mrs Sarah Gaynor for providing extended supervision during our Thursday morning rehearsals. Thank you also to our guest adjudicators, including 2025 Corpus Christi College Arts Prefects Kiara O’Leary and Nate Tonkin, who generously supported our solo student directors during early morning rehearsals this year. We also welcome fellow Secondary Drama and Humanities teacher Rp van der Westhuizen, a Perth theatre director and
performer who has appeared in more than 45 productions over the past eight years, and Corpus Christi College alumna Lisa McCormack, a Secondary Drama teacher and experienced performer who most recently appeared in The Diary of Anne Frank at the Heath Ledger Theatre. Lisa also happened to be my very first Drama teacher, way back in the late 1900s! Drama education provides students with far more than performance outcomes. Through the rehearsal process, students develop strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, collaboration, creativity, time management and organisation skills. They learn to communicate ideas, respond to challenges, meet deadlines, support one another and show resilience when things do not quite go according to plan. American singer and actor Josh Groban captured this perfectly in his opening speech at the 2024 Jimmy Awards: “Need someone who can meet a deadline, step in at the last minute, work with almost no budget, and make it look effortless? Hire a theatre kid!” This competition is a celebration of those remarkable “theatre kid” qualities. I am enormously proud of the courage, commitment and compassion our students have shown throughout this process. Congratulations to every student who has helped bring this year’s Inter-House Plays to life. Enjoy the show!

PALLOTTI HERE WE COME! BY BARBARA HENDERSON (COMEDY) Miss Begg is determined to get her students to behave as they board a plane to Reykjavik. Unfortunately as the crew begins to give safety instructions to the passengers, Lizzie begins to panic and the other students turn against her. When a flight attendant assists her, all her worst fears about flying come true. Will they make it to their destination alive? Buckle up for this short comedy! Directors: Jack Alford & Charlotte Lee

CHISHOLM A HISTORY OF MESSY ROOMS BY WADE BRADFORD (COMEDY) History of Messy Rooms is about transforming one simple argument, “Why do I have to make my bed?”, into a funny, fast‑paced trip through time. A modern mum, tired of the complaints, takes her child on a whirlwind journey through chore history. They visit colonial America, explore the Middle Ages, meet Vikings, and even peek into prehistoric caves, discovering how families in every era handled household tasks and how children in every era grumbled about them. By the end, the child learns that the battle over messy rooms isn’t new. It’s a timeless parent‑and‑child tug of war, and mums have always had the perfect comeback ready. XAVIER ROLL OF THE DICE BY BARBARA HENDERSON (COMEDY) “Roll of the Dice” is a short comedy about a group of secret agents, Russian criminals, and a very dangerous game of dice. A criminal mastermind named Klonko has stolen nuclear weapons and their activator! He is going to have a game of dice to see who wins this activator for all of the weapons which is disguised in a very secret location. MACKILLOP A WEEKEND MYSTERY BY SARA FEINBERG (MYSTERY) What begins as a casual weekend in the country quickly becomes mysterious. The host drops hints that this will be an event unlike any other. Once the guests are seated for dinner, the lights go out and something is stolen! The group splits up to search the house for the missing object and missing guests. ROMERO CAMP SOGGY LAKE BY THOMAS J. MISURACA (COMEDY) Camp Soggy Lake is a comedy about trying to get a bunch of uninterested teens to notice the nature around them. Four camp counsellors do their best to show the many campers how much fun they could be having at Camp Soggy Lake. But the campers are far too wrapped up in their own interests to care. The counsellors’ attempts to win them over are hilariously hopeless. But once they finally give up, the campers slowly start to discover little things about Soggy Lake that they actually enjoy. MERICI CARDS ON THE TABLE BY ANONYMOUS (MYSTERY) What begins as a sophisticated evening of cards and conversation takes a hilarious turn when the host goes permanently to sleep right in his armchair! Trapped in the house with a roomful of highsociety suspects, sharp detectives must work together to analyze bridge scorecards, stolen stockings, and dodgy medical histories to uncover the killer before anyone else plays a dead hand. KIARA O’LEARY
Rp is a theatre director, performer and educator with a passion for creating and celebrating meaningful theatrical experiences. As a performer, some of his recent credits include Jetsam in The Little Mermaid, Jack in Into the Woods, Bert Healy in Annie, Igor in Young Frankenstein, Charles Guiteau in Assassins and Eddie in Mamma Mia!.
Kiara, our 2025 Arts Prefect, has returned to Corpus Christi College as a guest judge for this year’s Interhouse Play Competition.
As a director, Rp’s work includes the Western Australian premiere of Billy Elliot at Koorliny Arts Centre, as well as Guys & Dolls, Annie Jr. and The Matchmaker. Rp currently teaches at Mandurah Baptist College, where he works across secondary Drama and HASS and is passionate about helping young people develop confidence, creativity and a genuine love of theatre. He is thrilled to be celebrating the wonderful talent of the next generation of performers at Corpus Christi College.
LISA MCCORMACK
Since graduating, Kiara has remained connected to the College, returning to work in the theatre and assisting with both Shrek and Interhouse Play. Currently enjoying a busy gap year while juggling five different jobs, she has also auditioned for productions outside of school and plans to study Primary Teaching next year. During her time at Corpus, Kiara was actively involved across the Arts, participating in College productions, dance, fine art and many other creative opportunities. We are delighted to welcome her back tonight!
NATE TONKIN Nate, our 2025 Arts Prefect, is a first-year Theatre Arts student at Curtin University with a passion for storytelling through technical and production work.
Lisa is an old alumni of Corpus Christi College so old, that she attended Corpus before mobile phones were invented, before the internet, when automatic cars were a luxury, when fuel cost 60c a litre, ATAR was called "TEE", and mullets were in fashion for the FIRST time.
Their credits include Stage Manager for Lady in Danger, Trauma Makeup Corner, Lovely Bones, and Captain Moonlite; Assistant Stage Manager for Breaking the Code; and Production Design for Breasts of Tireless, Musicology, and Social Contagion.
After completing Year 12, Lisa attained a BA(MusTh) from WAAPA and moved to Sydney, working professionally in the industry for about 20 years. She is now the lead drama teacher at Mandurah Baptist College, and a proud Mum of 2 daughters.
Nate is particularly interested in the collaborative and creative processes behind live performance, with a focus on bringing productions to life. They are currently working on a range of upcoming projects, including directing the original production The Fishermen’s Son, alongside various independent creative pursuits.
