THROTTLE ON
Lather, rinse, and repeat.
Life has a way of keeping us in a perpetual state of “almost;” an exhausting, internal tug of war where one side of you is screaming to move forward and the other side is digging its heels into the dirt.
You stand on the edge of a new choice, staring at the cost. It isn’t always about the money. More often, it’s the emotional tax of possibly being wrong.
You wonder if the investment is worth it if you end up failing or, worse, if you find out the dream you’ve been chasing doesn’t actually fit. That hesitation creates a specific kind of motion sickness— the nausea of standing still while the rest of the world seems to be in gear.
Warriors of the Wind decided it was time to find the momentum that breaks that stall.
We’re starting a new program called Throttle On. It’s a community funded scholarship designed to take the “what if” out of the equation. We aren’t handing out money. We’re clearing the path so the push and pull of indecision doesn’t have to be so paralyzing. We collect donations from the community, ten dollars here and a handful there, until the goal is hit. Then we send a veteran to a California motorcycle safety course.
But there’s a catch. This isn’t a “gimme” program.
The title “Veteran” often comes with the idea that things should be handed to us. But the most worthwhile growth requires effort.
To get a Throttle On scholarship, the veteran has to do the legwork. They find the school, they check the costs, and they make sure they’re prepared before they even apply. They have to answer the hard questions about why they want to make this move and what they hope to find on the other side of their hesitation.
When a name is announced, the clock starts. They have seven days to get on a roster. No exceptions.
That seven day window is the kick in the pants needed to stop the internal debate and finally commit. If they aren’t ready to push through the nerves, the next veteran
in line is waiting just as patiently for their turn to find out who they are when they stop overthinking.
And we’re hoping to reach far beyond the Central Valley. Our goal is to fund scholarships to veterans throughout all of California. And eventually beyond.
The real magic of Throttle On isn’t about a bike or a license. It’s the fact that it’s funded by regular people who don’t even know these veterans but want to see them thrive. When a veteran walks into that class, they aren’t just carrying their gear. They’re carrying the weight of knowing a whole community is rooting for them to win. It’s about showing them
that they aren’t alone in the struggle to move forward.
We’re opening a conversation that says we want you here, and we want you to keep going.
The deepest appreciation for a veteran shouldn’t just be a “thank you” once a year. It should be a steady, quiet commitment to their future. It should be in helping them find a way to quiet the noise and finally engage with the world again.
Because once you’ve got your throttle on, the only thing left to do is see what’s over the next horizon.
And trust me… It’s worth sticking around for.

temperature to make sure my bike isn’t on fire. Average 111 degrees in the late afternoon, not camping here! As someone who grew up on the west coast used to the rain forest, the desert is a whole other world to me. I am glad to have seen it, although future visits are hopefully not during the summer.
Some say it is a dry heat and
hot. Many parks who I am assuming got fed up with rescuing hiking tourists close trails and campgrounds during the summer months. The only thing I have found to help me not feel like I will pass out while riding is staying wet, inside and out. Drink non-stop and wet my clothes as often as possible with cold water. Often
wearing a bathing suit top so I can wet it or drench my t-shirt before putting my vented motorcycle jacket on top. Similarly with my hair and headband, drench with cold water then put my helmet on. Yes, I do look like a drowned rat but cool or at least not fainting while I ride.
Riding through the Mojave National Preserve we were pleasantly surprised to see the strange Joshua trees again. I had previously thought could only be found in Joshua Tree National Park. In this giant sand box we luckily found, possibly the only, solid shoulder to
pull off and enjoy the view.
The highways run through the valleys of the park with small mountain ranges on either side. There are 4×4 roads through the mountains with places to explore like old mines, natural springs, sand dunes and cool rock formations. We had a few hours to spend in the park on our cross country ride so stayed to the main highways.
