VENOM’S GAS STATION TAKEOVER
Every rider knows the drill before a big ride. You check the fluids, kick the tires, pack only the absolute bare essentials into your bags, and prepare for a long day in the saddle.
But when Dallas geared up to hit the road to San Francisco with the crew for Memorial Day, he ran into a major pre-ride inspection obstacle. Her name is Venom, a pint-sized striped menace, and she firmly believed she belonged on the packing list. Dallas tried to explain the hard truths of the road. It’s too far for a kitten. It’s too hot for a kitten. There’s not enough room for a kitten. Venom didn’t care. She laid down the law: If she fits, she sits.
After some intense negotiation, a compromise was reached. Venom managed to smooth-talk her way
into the spaceship for the ultimate high-speed cruise... straight to the gas station. For
exactly five minutes, Dallas had the fiercest passenger princess on two wheels. Once at the station, Venom took full advantage of her temporary road-captain status. She stepped out of the pack, inspected the bikes, judged everyone’s gear choices, and posed for a few quick crew photos to prove she was there. She made sure the CVMA crew’s vibe was locked in before the long trek up the highway.
Of course, once the kickstands went up for the actual ride, the feline passenger
princess traded the handlebars for the luxury of a climate-controlled car ride back home. She’s a biker at heart, but she also highly respects a strong air conditioner.
Dallas and the crew headed west, kittenless, left to survive the rest of the San Francisco trip completely unsupervised. It turned out to be an incredible, unforgettable time… even if Dallas had to navigate the whole highway without his tiny backpack supervisor!

This section of CA-18 in not a National Scenic Byway, the western half of CA-18, This ride has a bit more altitude making it more comfortable in the afternoon heat of the California sun. Dotted with small towns there isn’t a shortage of funky places
Arriving at Big Bear Lake, one of the larger towns on the mountain, we see lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation. We would love to stay and play in the mountains and enjoy the Lake, but we must be on our way traveling east, homeward bound.

Biker of the Month

One of my favorite parts of organizing Bike Night is getting to recognize good people.
For June, that honor went to Cody, (left).
He was presented with his award by previous Biker of the Month, Christian (right).
If you’ve spent any time around the local motorcycle community, you’ve probably seen him. He shows up to just about everything motorcycle related, and plenty that isn’t.
A veteran needs a hand? Cody’s there.
Someone’s bike is acting up? Cody’s willing to take a look.
A friend needs a yard mowed, leveled, or a shed
built? It might take three days, but Cody will be there until it’s done.
That’s just who he is. Cody rides with the CVMA, and we’re proud to recognize him as our June Biker of the Month. This award is chosen by fellow riders who notice the people who keep showing up and helping.
Each recipient chooses the next Biker of the Month and gets to present their chosen recipient the following month.
