Developing a luxury community of new homes in Malibu was challenging and rewarding. The goal was to enhance a beautiful piece of terrain in a way rarely done in the region, focusing on water service and fire safety, which are critically lacking in many neighborhoods, as evidenced by the 2018 Woolsey Fire.
With robust protection from the beginning, each of the eight homes is distinctly designed in phases with the consultation of architects and designers and has a unique character and story.

Trancas Malibu includes four fire hydrants either placed adjacent to the home or within 150 feet, diverting from the typical sporadic placement. Additionally, each home has further protection through rooftop and ground-mounted automatic fire sprinklers fed through the water meter. These sprinklers can be activated either from inside the home or remotely.
Anacapa, due to its location at the base of a long driveway, has its own private 7,500-gallon water storage tank filled by the property’s own well. This tank has a dedicated hydrant, which can be operated by the homeowner, a private wildfire response company or the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
There is an opportunity to connect future owners with services of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and a private wildfire response company that will provide interior ceiling sprinklers and service the water pumps on-site.

As the overseer of the entire process, Dustin handles everything from initial design conception to planning, permitting and construction and calls upon a team of advisors and consultants to navigate the complexities of the project, ensuring its ultimate success.

Architect | Made in Malibu Designs and Permits
Luca is a dual-citizenship American-Italian architect. He holds a master’s degree in architecture and an EU license in Italy from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” Faculty of Architecture and in Sweden from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Luca has 20 years of design-solution experience in high-end construction, most in Malibu. His contemporary Mid-Century, modern style is the product of his almost obsessive studies of architectural language, extensive travels and many collaborations with talented designers, engineers, artists and architects alike, including Eric Lloyd Wright. He creates custom designs with a collected feel that reflects the personality and vision of his clients while integrating the specific environment. He pays particular attention to how his concept of contemporary architectural language can adapt to the local context.

DOUG W. BURDGE
Architect
Doug, AIA, is the signature architect of Malibu. His firm has designed and built over 300 custom residences in the region alone.
As comfortable designing a Mediterranean-style estate as a modern home, Doug has created breathtaking contemporary oceanfront retreats with floor-to-ceiling
glass doors that open to endless vistas of the sea and sky. Doug is also well-known for designing in a “Rustern” style, a term he copyrighted, which means “a home, furniture or design style of rustic modern influence.”
In addition to residential projects, Doug and his team have designed award-winning boutique hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and private clubs. Their projects have been featured in Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, Veranda, Robb Report, Luxe, and Traditional Home. In addition to receiving several Home of the Year PCBC Gold Nugget awards, his residential work in Sun Valley has consistently landed his firm on the annual Top Mountain Architects & Interior Designers list from Mountain Living magazine.
Doug graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Southern California. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. The proud father of twin sons, Doug splits time living in Malibu and Idaho with his wife Laura. Doug also co-owns Bauhaus Built, a luxury tiny house manufacturer, and is the creator of Sunset BUD Living Home.

Nicky is a Los Angeles native. Growing up in Los Angeles, he was inspired by the abundance of Mid-Century modernism and the iconic architects of the city. He studied design at the University of California, Los Angeles, and left early to work full-time for designer Brad Dunning.
In 2013, he founded Nicky Marmet Design – a design and interior architecture firm for residential and commercial properties. The scope of work included restoration,
remodeling, furniture and art curation projects. Nicky strives for a casual yet sophisticated elegance. Nicky and his team curate homes with a mix of historical, contemporary and custom pieces, and furniture is often custom-designed by Nicky. He works with a collective of master craftsmen to oversee the building and fabrication process, collaborates with artists to create site-specific works and visits auction houses to acquire the right options.
