PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As we move through the first half of 2026, it’s hard not to notice how quickly time seems to pass. Seasons shift, calendars fill, and before we know it, opportunities we intended to pursue have come and gone. It’s a natural moment to pause and ask a simple but important question: “What am I doing today that will benefit me tomorrow?” Time will keep moving, what we choose to do with it is what makes the difference.
Each of us joined the Cumberland Valley Business Alliance for a reason; to grow, to connect, to support, and to be supported. But membership alone doesn’t create value; it’s what we choose to do with it that truly matters. The return on your membership is directly tied to your level of engagement. Are you attending mixers, lunch & learns, and ribbon cuttings with intention, building genuine relationships and developing skills that strengthen your role? Are you supporting fellow members not just in spirit, but through your presence? Are you taking advantage of marketing opportunities, engaging on social media, and sharing your story? And are you stepping forward, joining committees, sponsoring events, or finding new ways to contribute?
Growth in business, much like in life, rarely happens by chance. It’s built through small, consistent actions, through relationships nurtured over time, and through a willingness to show up again and again. The investment you make today, in your network, your visibility, and your involvement, often returns when you least expect it, but need it most. At the same time, there is real value in appreciating the season you are in right now. Success isn’t measured only by milestones achieved, but also by the moments experienced along the way, the conversations, the collaborations, and the sense of belonging within this community. Being present in those moments is just as important as planning for what comes next. When we are intentional with our time and energy, both our businesses and our lives grow in more meaningful ways.
As I write this, I am preparing to step away briefly to welcome, with my husband, our first child, a season of life that brings its own reminders about time, priorities, and presence. It has deepened my appreciation for being intentional: choosing where to focus my energy and recognizing that what we nurture today shapes what grows tomorrow. So as we look ahead, I encourage each of you to take one simple, purposeful step: show up to an event, reach out to a fellow member, share your story, or find a way to get involved. Not everything at once, and not perfectly—but intentionally. Because when each of us commits to using our time well, engaging fully, and being present in the moments that matter, we strengthen not only our own businesses, but our entire community. The year is still young, but it won’t stay that way for long! Let’s make it count.

The 2026 CVBA Awards Breakfast recognized six honorees whose work reflects the best of the Cumberland Valley’s business and community spirit. From outstanding workplace culture and nonprofit service to leadership, innovation, and civic impact, each winner represented a different way of strengthening the region. Presented by M&T Bank, this event shows the true heroes behind our comunity.
ATHENA Leadership Award: Carrie Gray received the ATHENA Leadership Award for her strong leadership in public service and her deep commitment to mentoring others, especially women. As County Administrator, she has guided major initiatives, overseen complex projects, and built trust through clear communication, integrity, and accountability. Beyond her county role, she has strengthened the region through board leadership, strategic partnerships, and advocacy for health and social services, making her a powerful example of leadership that lifts others and improves the community as a whole.
2026 Employer of the Year: Starr Insurance was named Employer of the Year for building a workplace culture centered on support, professional growth, and genuine care for employees. The company was recognized for helping team members earn licenses, pursue advanced designations, and develop as leaders, while also creating a family-like environment where people are supported through life’s milestones and challenges. Its commitment extends well beyond the office through volunteerism, charitable giving, and community engagement, making it a strong example of how a business can invest in both people and place.
2026 Nonprofit of the Year: Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter received the Nonprofit of the Year Award for its long-standing and highly impactful work rescuing, caring for, and rehoming animals in need. The shelter was recognized not only for its compassionate day-to-day service, but also for its medical and surgical care, Second Chance Fund support, school outreach, spay and neuter efforts, and partnerships that expand its reach. Its work addresses immediate animal welfare needs while also helping reduce overpopulation and educate the community, making it a vital regional resource.
2026 Spirit of the Community Award: Chris Ardinger was honored with the Spirit of the Community Award for his steady, transparent, and people-centered approach to leadership. As Administrator of Antrim Township, he has earned trust by communicating clearly, taking responsibility, and following through on concerns brought to him by residents and local leaders. His record of service also includes broader community leadership through roles in chamber
work and county government, showing a consistent commitment to strengthening relationships and improving life across the Cumberland Valley.
2026 Emerging Business Leader of the Year: Morgan Horst was recognized as Emerging Business Leader of the Year for her impressive career growth, technical excellence, and dedication to helping others succeed. At SEK, CPAs & Advisors, she has advanced quickly through the firm while taking on increasing responsibility, mentoring newer staff, and helping improve internal processes. The recent CVBA Ambassador meeting featured Amy Faulconer, who shared insights into the vital work of WIN Services. As a non-profit dedicated to Franklin and Fulton counties, WIN Services provides free and confidential support to victims of domestic and sexual violence through a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, and legal advocacy. Their mission focuses on empowering survivors by providing the education and counseling necessary to regain control of their lives and break the cycle of abuse. This presentation serves as a great reminder that our ambassadors are not only champions for local business but also dedicated community members who frequently volunteer their time and expertise with various local organizations beyond their work with the CVBA.

Meritus Health is expanding access to care in Hagerstown with the opening of Meritus Primary Care at 1130 Professional Blvd., taking over the former home of Meritus Women’s Health Specialists. Members of the Rotary Club of Chambersburg celebrated National Read Across America Day on March 2 by visiting elementary schools throughout the Chambersburg Area School District. Members read “Fox in Socks” by Dr. Seuss and provided each student with a copy of the book to take home. Created by the National Education Association, the annual event was held on Dr. Seuss’s birthday and launched a weeklong celebration of literacy designed to encourage children to develop a love of reading. WellSpan Health has opened WellSpan Newberry Hospital in Newberry Township, its tenth hospital serving Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland and the first of three new small format hospitals debuting in early 2026. Located just off Interstate 83, the facility operates 24-hours a day with an emergency department, 10 inpatient beds, and on-site diagnostic services including CT scans, X rays, ultrasound, and lab testing. Designed to provide faster assessments, shorter wait times, and quicker admissions, the hospital expands convenient access to emergency care for northern York County residents who previously traveled to York or Harrisburg. The Heritage Center unveiled a remarkable new museum display featuring a rare 1800s printing press, generously donated by Dr. and Mrs. Edward J. Drawbaugh. The Chambersburg Rotary Club’s 63rd Annual Chicken ‘n Stuff event served a record 1,600 meals in one day, including 1,100 donated to support neighbors facing food insecurity. The effort prioritized local youth, providing meals to students at Ben Chambers

YOUTH LEADERSHIP CLASS GRADUATES
Twenty-six high school sophomores celebrated the completion of their yearlong leadership journey on April 20, 2026, at Wilson College, graduating as the Leadership Franklin County Youth (LFCY) Class of 2026. Throughout the program, students worked in school teams to design and implement BeKind projects through the Healthy Communities Partnership of Greater Franklin County, promoting kindness in elementary schools, connecting with residents at retirement communities, and supporting local animal shelters. The ceremony honored their growth as leaders and the positive impact their service made across Franklin County. Congratulations to the LFCY Class of 2026 for leading with purpose and compassion, and to the LFCY Steering Committee for guiding their success.

LEADERS EXPLORE EDUCATION OPTIONS
Leadership Franklin County (LFCC) participants explored Franklin County’s education landscape during April’s Community Education session hosted by the Franklin County Career and Technology Center (FCCTC).
Leaders representing public, private, charter, and early childhood education shared insights on school funding, accountability, workforce readiness, and the value of community partnerships. Speakers included representatives from Chambersburg Area School District, Commonwealth Charter Academy, FCCTC, First Start Partnerships for Children & Families, Greencastle-Antrim School District, Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, and Shalom Christian Academy. The class also toured FCCTC’s hands-on training programs and visited the CASD Engagement Center, which collaborates with local families to meet evolving needs. LFCC will celebrate the Class of 2026 at graduation on Wednesday, May 13, at 3:00 p.m. in the F&M Trust Community Room. Friends, family, and supporters are invited to attend and may register through the CVBA event calendar.

LFC SEEKS PROJECT PROPOSALS
Leadership Franklin County (LFC) is now accepting community project proposals from nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and government entities for the Class of 2027. These projects are a core component of the LFC program, designed to connect participants with real community needs while developing leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through handson experience. Organizations must attend one mandatory virtual information session. Two sessions are available: April 28 at 12 p.m. or May 11 at 11 a.m.. Registration is available at: CVBAlliance.org/Events. Zoom details provided upon confirmation. Projects should be structured for completion between October 2026 and April 2027. The deadline to submit proposals is May 29, 2026, with selected projects announced by the end of July. Organizations are encouraged to review the updated Request for Proposal (RFP) packet prior to attending an information session to better support project success and participant experience. LFC ALUMNI COMMUNITY IMPACT
Despite the cancellation of IceFest’s Run Your Ice Off 5K, the event still generated more than $9,000 in proceeds. These funds were shared among the IceFest Committee, the LFC Alumni Scholarship Fund, and two nonprofit partners—Go Girls Go (a program of Healthy Communities Partnership) and Homeless Matters of Franklin County. This past month, the LFC RYIO Alumni had the privilege of delivering these funds directly to our nonprofit partners, celebrating the impact made possible through this event. We are entering an exciting new chapter at Downtown Chambersburg Inc. On March 2, we welcomed Angie Allaire as our new executive director. Angie joins us with a peoplefirst perspective. With a master’s degree in counseling and a doctorate in organizational leadership currently in progress, she has spent her career finding potential and driving engagement. Her ability to achieve an 83 percent increase in employee engagement in the corporate world speaks to her talent for strategic planning and efficiency.
As a Cumberland Valley Business Alliance member and local business owner with her husband Tim Young, Angie is already deeply woven into the fabric of Franklin County. She views our town as a collective neighborhood where we take care of each other. "I love communities that are rich in history, especially those where there is genuine collaboration between business owners and community members. I’m so honored to step into this role and serve our community." Angie said.
In her downtime, Angie is an outdoor enthusiast and a lover of the local music scene. She steps into this role with a simple mission: to listen to your stories, your challenges, and your dreams for our community. FOUNTAIN FEST - FAMILY FUN
Downtown Chambersburg was full of life April 24 to 26 for Fountain Fest 2026, presented by Shoemaker’s Insurance, a three day celebration that brought the community together downtown with live music, food trucks, carnival rides, and family activities. Friday evening set the tone with a relaxed kickoff as crowds gathered to enjoy entertainment, food, and the first wave of festival energy. Saturday was the busiest day, with Main Street lined with vendors, food trucks, and visitors exploring downtown while music and entertainment kept the square active. The "Fire Up The Fountain" event at midday with News Talk 103.7 was a highlight that brought everyone together. Sunday offered a slower, easygoing finish, with families returning for rides, music, and food in the park areas before the weekend wrapped up. Overall, Fountain Fest 2026, hosted by Downtown Chambersburg, Inc., was a strong welcome to spring and a weekend that brought people out to enjoy downtown together.
