With summer now in full swing and the smell of backyard BBQ lifting our spirits, I want to celebrate a great milestone. This summer marks the 5th anniversary of the CVBA! It has been an amazing 5 years and our business community continues to grow and thrive. The partnership between the Greencastle Antrim Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce has, and continues to, help us build strong business relationships.
I would also like to take a moment to celebrate something else. We are blessed to have two amazing and picturesque downtowns. My name is Lori Rice. I’m a lifelong resident of Franklin County. I'm the owner and operator of Heart and Soul Salon and Wellness. My family and I are heavily involved in farming and agriculture operations right here in our County.
Staying close to my roots, Coalition To Protect Franklin County was created out of a necessity to bring awareness to the rich farming heritage that is here in Franklin County. It started back in 2016 when farmers in Franklin County were facing, and still are facing the possible threat of high-voltage power lines with very large right of ways through their pristine farmland, many of which are preserved farmlands, which means they’re development rights we’re sold to forever keep it farmland.
It is also the desire of Coalition To Protect Franklin County to educate the public, especially our youth, of the value of farming, the simple basics of where their food comes from. In our efforts to

I wanted a space to have places to sit and be; to create and be mindful or social.

Wilson College has announced the launch of a new hybrid, accelerated Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program, with classes beginning in August 2027 and applications opening in July. Designed to be completed in just 16 months, the program combines online coursework, interactive instruction, simulation-based learning, and clinical preparation, allowing students to enter the workforce more quickly and at a lower overall cost. Developed in partnership with Evidence In Motion, the program also offers online prerequisite courses for students without a related undergraduate degree, expanding access to the field. With limited on-campus residencies in the Philadelphia area and flexible remote learning, the program supports students nationwide while addressing the growing demand for speech-language pathologists. The Conococheague Institute recently celebrated a major milestone as Program and Farmstead Manager Kori Taber accepted a PA Museums Institutional Achievement Award for the Animal Husbandry on the Frontier program. This state-level recognition honored the initiative’s success in integrating heritage-breed goats and sheep into educational curriculum and historic homestead life. The ceremony was held at the Centre Furnace Mansion. The Institute expressed gratitude to the Americana Corner Preserving America Partners program for its longterm support, along with local partners Lappans Springs Farm and Wilde Thistle Farm. Allison-Antrim Museum recently welcomed historian Roger Swartz for its monthly speaker series in Greencastle. Swartz presented a program on John Brown’s 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry, examining how U.S. Marines under the command of Col. Robert E. Lee ended the rebellion, as well as Brown’s trial and final days. A historian, author, and owner of R.G. Swartz & Associates, Swartz is known for his work on Pennsylvania frontier history during the American Revolution. UPMC Harrisburg has earned Comprehensive Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission and the American Stroke Association, the highest designation for stroke care. The LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council’s (FCLC) 8th Annual Puzzle Mania Fundraiser will be held September 20 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League in Chambersburg. Teams of four will compete to complete a
jigsaw puzzle in record time, with additional challenges designed to slow down rival teams. Proceeds will benefit LIU12 FCLC and support adult education initiatives in the community. James Buchanan High School’s “Forces of Nature” team earned first place at the Franklin County Conservation District (FCCD) Envirothon held April 16 at Cowans Gap State Park. Led by Ms. Jenna Ross, team members Cabella Shaffer, Chloe Stevens, Haley Snyder, Madeline Book, and Killian McNew scored 325 points to win the competition and advance to the next level. Cumberland Valley School of Music (CVSM) has announced its 2026 scholarship recipients. The Henry and Janet Guarriello Scholarship was awarded to Lillian Snowberger, a homeschool graduate and longtime CVSM student who plans to study theater at Muhlenberg College. CVSM’s Merit Award Scholarships were presented to Robert Bond (voice), Brenna Franklin (flute), and Nathaniel Bryson (piano), each receiving $250 per semester toward lessons next year. Located near Interstate 81, the hospital offers 24/7 emergency services, inpatient care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and treatment for common emergency conditions. The facility is the third new hospital WellSpan opened in 2026, reflecting the health system’s commitment to meeting the needs of growing communities in Central Pennsylvania. The 29th Annual Chambersburg Trout Derby drew 454 anglers to the Conococheague Creek for a weekend of fishing. Hosted by the Chambersburg Rotary Club, participants caught 373 of the 615 tagged rainbow trout stocked for the event. The Big Trout Prize winners were Drew Holmes with a 19.25-inch, 2.13-pound trout; Steve Yingling with an 18.875-inch, 2-pound, 7-ounce trout; and Mitchell Dentler with an 18.75-inch, 2-pound, 6-ounce trout. First place won $520, second place took home $260, and third place received $85. Proceeds support the Chambersburg Rotary Club’s community service projects, scholarships, and charitable initiatives. The Conococheague Institute is expanding its free 'Revolutionary Homestead' programming with new Sunday hours in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Activities include learning about daily farm life, harvesting garden crops, playing colonial-era games, and meeting the resident goats and sheep. One of DCI's most successful initiatives continues to be the Main Street Matters Business Improvement Grant Program.
