Dear Falcon Families, As we begin a new school year, I am filled with gratitude, hope, and excitement for all that lies ahead. On behalf of our faculty, staff, and administration, I warmly welcome our new families to the Christian Brothers community and extend a heartfelt welcome back to our returning families. We are grateful that you have chosen to be part of the Christian Brothers High School family and have entrusted us to partner with you in the education of your children. The start of a new academic year is always a special time, marked by fresh opportunities for learning, growth, friendship, and faith. At Christian Brothers, we remain deeply committed to our Lasallian Catholic mission of human and Christian education. We strive to create an inclusive and caring community where every young person is named, noticed and known while being challenged, and supported in reaching their full potential. As Saint John Baptist de La Salle reminded educators, “God expects you to touch hearts.” This simple yet profound call continues to guide our work today as we accompany young people on their academic, spiritual, and personal journeys. Through meaningful relationships, rigorous learning, and a deep commitment to faith and service, we seek to touch hearts, open minds, and inspire lives of purpose. This year is particularly meaningful as we continue celebrating 150 years of Lasallian Catholic education in Sacramento. For a century and a half, Christian Brothers has been transforming lives through a tradition rooted in faith, service, excellence, and respect for the dignity of every person. We are honored to carry forward this legacy true to our motto, "Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve." There is so much to be grateful for. We are blessed by the dedication of our teachers and staff, the partnership of our families, the generosity of our alumni and supporters, and the energy and spirit of our students. Together, we continue to build upon the strong foundation that has defined Christian Brothers for generations. As we embark on this new year, I invite each member of our community to embrace the opportunities before us, strengthen the bonds that unite us, and continue living the values that make Christian Brothers "The place to be." COUNSELING DEPARTMENT SEPTEMBER NEWS FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT Welcome to Christian Brothers, all new and returning families! Counselors are busy assisting students with resolving personal issues, helping them plan strategies for academic success and distributing a substantial amount of college planning information. Each grade-level counselor is scheduling individual and/or small group conferences with each of his/her students, so all students will be seen by their counselor this semester. FRESHMEN: Michelle Timm (Class of 2030 Counselor) has begun meeting with Freshman individually. She will introduce them to Scoir. Students will then be able to access this very important website for college and career planning. Ms. Timm will also discuss how to be successful at CB and how to utilize their counselors. This will take place during their prescheduled small-group conference. On Thursday, September 10th is mandatory Frosh Parent Counseling and Athletics Night. (6 p.m. in the George Cunningham ’40 Performing Arts Center) Counseling will first give parents a preview of what to expect from the Counseling Department and we will discuss important issues concerning Academic, Personal and College Counseling. Athletics will use the second half of the meeting to discuss CB athletics. SOPHOMORES: Amy Archer (Class of 2029 Counselor) will have the sophomores log into Scoir and complete the Career Profile Assessment and update their resume with summer activities. She will also begin her individual counselor check-in meetings this month. JUNIORS: Kara McGuire (Class of 2028 Counselor) will be visiting junior English classes along with our College Counselors (Ms. Melissa McClellan and Ms. Shenk-Tiffany) to discuss college planning. Juniors are encouraged to begin the college search process on Scoir this year. They will also be taking the PSAT in October on Testing Day (10/12) to prep for college entrance exams. SENIORS: Kirk Purdy (Class of 2027 Counselor) will be joining Ms. Melissa McClellan and Ms. Shenk-Tiffany (College Counselors) as they begin visiting classrooms to talk about the college application process. The College Counselors will be hosting Coffee with the College Counselors on September 11th at 9am via Zoom to answer college admission and timeline questions. The College Counselors will be hosting Application Workshops before and after school each Thursday this month in Room 103. Other Reminders: CB is co-hosting the Private and Parochial College Fair on Thursday, October 9th at 6 p.m. This event is for juniors and seniors. Monitor these early weeks of school and make certain your son or daughter attends to the following tasks: Juniors and seniors should consider scheduling visits to the colleges they haven’t seen at this point. They are each allowed two excused days to visit colleges but must complete the proper paperwork in advance. Seniors will soon be refining their list of “target”, “reach” and “likely” colleges and initiating the application process. Make sure your student listens to and reads the daily announcements, watches KBFT, and checks Schoology in order to hear about all events including college evenings presented by specific colleges/universities and dates and times for our college application workshops. Remind them to sign up on Scoir for any of the many college rep visits that will be held on our campus. Attend office hours before and after school for help in classes students are struggling in. Our teachers are our best resources! HAVE A GREAT YEAR AND LET US KNOW HOW WE CAN BE OF SERVICE TO YOU!

THE ARTS
KBFT coursework and production have officially kicked off for the school year. Our KBFT Season 25 crew is preparing for their bi-weekly broadcast schedule. Season 25 producers are actively planning and organizing their crews and delegating production assignments. Student broadcast journalists are producing pieces for the first round of shows. Season 25 premieres on September 8, 2026. Shows will air every Tuesday and Thursday at the conclusion of E Set. Our newest group of student creators have started their journey in the video production 1 course. The 60 plus newcomers to video have begun to learn the visual and compositional building blocks of video production. Sports Broadcasting is off to a strong start. Student broadcasters Marcos Serrano and Adam Rodriguez called the Flag football home opener on the NFHS live stream.
Falcon Radio is our New internet radio station. It will features original programming by our students, and is preproduced in the MVPA’s Audio Production class. New episodes of shows are scheduled Sunday through Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to midnight. Additionally the station continuously shuffles the programs in our archive. Falcon Radio is available to stream off the Christian Brothers website, under the Arts tab.

Urinetown: Christian Brothers High School Theatre department will present the musical comedy, “Urinetown,” by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, November 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 2026. Directed by Michael D. Jackson. “Urinetown’s” own joke is that it has a bad title. Although it can be mistaken as “You’re in Town,” it’s really a satirical musical comedy about what happens to a community when government decides that everyone has to pay to use a toilet. The show satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics Friends of the Arts: FOTA Do you have a student involved in theater, instrumental music, choir, art or media? LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE Each day, students walk under our school’s motto etched on the glass: “Enter to learn, leave to serve.” Our students embrace this call to action year-round by participating in service-learning through CB’s curriculum, attending VENAVER immersion retreats, partaking in service clubs, or attending service events with friends or teammates.
CB students had an exciting summer full of travels around the world! Several CB students participated in educational tours abroad - one group travelled to Spain in June and visited most of Southern Spain including Sevilla, Cordoba, Madrid, Toledo, and Barcelona. They even got to see the Pope!
The annual Faculty and Staff Day of Service before students returned to campus demonstrated that dedication to service is a lifelong pursuit for our entire campus community.
Several other students travelled to Peru with Ms. Michel and Mr. Hogan for a service and language immersion. They immersed themselves in Peruvian culture by practicing their Spanish and participating in local service projects throughout the community. One major highlight included a visit to Machu Picchu. Later in July, several juniors and seniors embarked on a new experience - a summer VENAVER trip in Chicago! With Dr. Alexander and Ms. Hanshew, students visited the Br. David Darst Center for a social justice immersion. Daily themes of this VENAVER focused on homelessness, food insecurity, education, and the criminal justice system.
Every year prior to the start of the year, CB teachers, administrators, and staff step away from their offices, classrooms, and labs to roll up their sleeves and dive into the local community. Together, we partnered with several local organizations, contributing over 300 hours of collective volunteer work. From packing meals at the River City and Sacramento Food Banks to cooking and serving a meal at Wellspring or Loaves & Fishes, to helping Oak Ridge Elementary and the Mustard Seed School prepare for the upcoming school year, among many others, CB faculty and staff were hard at work giving back throughout the community.
Many CB students also attended various leadership gatherings and camps to prepare for this new school year. Several students attended the annual Young Lasallian Assembly at St. Mary’s College, the District Student Leadership gathering for students emerging as leaders in the realm of faith, service, and community, student council camp in Alta, CA, Student Retreat Leadership Team (SRLT) camp, and the schoolwide student council camp to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year. Students interested in learning more about service opportunities at Christian Brothers are invited to the LSLO (Room 106) to chat with Mrs. Hanshew about service at CB!

LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE The Class of 2029 has a beautiful opportunity as they all participate in the Sophomore Retreat. The retreat is offered according to their religion class. All details can be found on the permission slip. Students who have Mrs. Maldonado or Mr. Wotawa will attend on Tuesday, September 15. Students who have Mr. Keeney or Dr. Wykes will attend Wednesday, September 16. The retreat will be at the Sacramento Newman Center, 5900 Newman Court, Sacramento. Students are expected to arrive at 8:40 am. The pickup is at 1:30 p.m. Students bring their lunch; we will provide snacks. Students come in their Blue Spirit Shirt with dress code bottoms. If they need a Spirit Shirt, come to Room 106 before September 15. All teachers are aware that half the class will be gone on Tuesday and the other half on Wednesday, and they will adjust to classwork so everyone can participate in the retreat. ATHLETICS Christian Brothers Women’s Athletics wins the Commissioner’s Cup 2025-26! The Sac-Joaquin Section Commissioner's Cup is a program designed to recognize the top all-around athletic programs in the Sac-Joaquin Section based on comprehensive excellence in interscholastic athletic competition. The program will recognize the top ten (10) schools in traditional boys’ and girls’ sports competition. The number one (1) girls’ team and number one (1) boys’ team will be awarded a cup recognizing them as the male/female SacJoaquin Section “Commissioner’s Cup” winner for the designated year. For the 2025-2026 school year, Christian Brothers is the top school for female athletes and has been awarded the Commissioner’s Cup for the second year in a row!
