A MESSAGE FROM OUR MVPA CHAIR
Dear Families,
As Christian Brothers High School celebrates 150 years in Sacramento, I find myself reflecting on where we have been and where we are headed Over the past three decades, I have witnessed our campus growth, our arts programs evolve, and our school rise to meet the needs of students in a constantly changing world Through all this change, the heart of Christian Brothers has remained the same: a community grounded in faith, education, and a belief in forming the whole student. The physical growth of our campus is easy to see. With the addition of spaces like the STEM wing, home to the KBFT newsroom, and the George Cunningham ’40 Performing Arts Center, which serves as a vibrant home for choir, band, and theatre, one thing has remained constant: the arts continue to play a vital role in the formation of our students
What cannot always be measured is the formation of our students’ spirit – and that is where the arts matter most In a world increasingly shaped by screens and constant digital distraction, the arts invite students to slow down, be present, and engage more deeply with themselves, one another, and the community around them I often ask students a simple question: “What is your favorite thing to do without your phone?” The answers are consistently heartfelt and human: sleeping, spending time with friends and family, performing, playing guitar, writing, or creating with their hands Our students crave this kind of connection, and it is easy to see firsthand in any of our ceramics classes, where students trade their technology for one of the oldest art forms in the world In those moments, focus settles in, hands meet clay, and conversation and creativity replace scrolling and silence.
The Media, Visual, and Performing Arts Department is committed to nurturing that instinct to create Rooted in our 150-year-old Lasallian identity, our programs help students recognize their God-given gifts and learn how to use them to serve our greater community. When students perform on a stage, paint a mural, or report on a story, they are not only developing skills – they are learning to interpret the world and reflect it back. I invite families to attend a performance or showcase by our students enrolled in the arts programs. The spring play, Epiphany, begins on April 17, for a two-weekend run. The choral program and performing arts classes will be featured in a theater showcase on May 2, highlighting the 150-year history of Christian Brothers High School Tickets are available for all performances in the Ticket Hub These opportunities are made possible by a dedicated faculty who believe deeply in the value of a quality education that teaches minds and touches hearts.
The arts at Christian Brothers are not simply about performance or production; they are about formation, helping young people discover who they are, how they are called to serve others, and how their creativity can improve the world At a time when it is easy to numb out or scroll past what matters, helping others feel joy, curiosity, or hope is a powerful gift. That spirit is visible across campus, and it invites us to think not only about what our students are creating today, but how these experiences shape who they are becoming. It is a privilege to be part of this work, and it fills me with both pride and hope that our students continue to carry forward this artistic tradition and the spirit of Christian Brothers for generations to come

College News
Graduating Seniors have been receiving letters of acceptance from colleges and universities across the country. Congratulations to the class of 2026! As many seniors already know, this has been a very competitive year for college admission.
This year many schools received a 10-30% increase in application numbers, driving down admission acceptance rates. Many seniors across the country applying to more colleges than ever in order to “hedge their bets” during a time where college visits were next to impossible. This has resulted in record numbers of applicant pools. Since most campuses have from 45,000-100,000 applicants to fill freshmen classes of approximately 4500, one can see how difficult decisions have been for admission offices in 2026. In fact, for the eighth year in a row, many UCs and CSUs have instituted a ‘wait-list’ for stellar students who were not admitted. It is difficult to know to what extent the waitlists will be used and as a result, there have been disappointments - not only among our own students, but for tens of thousands of other California seniors.
Thankfully most of our seniors planned well and applied to not only ‘reach’ schools, but ‘target’ schools and ‘likely’ schools. As a result, CB students have options for next year and are able to begin their college careers at great schools. If any seniors are still grappling with final decisions, remember that Ms. ShenkTiffany and Ms. McClellan are available to assist and support you. Seniors who will be attending community college should have already completed their application and registration, and completed the online orientation
The good news is that many of our students have been admitted to several prestigious universities and programs, including Stanford, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Loyola Marymount, Villanova, Creighton, Sacramento State University, Saint Mary’s College of CA, etc., and many more too numerous to list.
Parents, be sure to have your senior log into Scoir as soon as possible, but by MAY 4th for college admittance. Students need to list ALL colleges to which they have been admitted and ALL scholarships, awards, etc.

Summer will be here before we know it! Summer is a wonderful time for students to expand their horizons, enrich their lives with fascinating experiences, and improve their readiness for college through academic pursuits There are many summer opportunities for high school students: classes, camps, travel study, volunteer service, and employment

THE ARTS
The competitive High School Self Portrait show was on display at the Verge Gallery last month. Seven students from various 2D art classes represented CB - Congratulations!
Visual Art students just finished an art show at The Volt Coffee House in Davis. Seven of our students sold their work! The theme of the show was Valentine.
The KBFT Media Arts Students returned their national Convention in Tampa, FL. All of the students represented CB well - congratulations to Joseph Barnaja ‘26, Senyah Haynes ‘26, Ethan Shabaaz ‘26, Jack Witry ’26, and Sadie Warren ‘26 for an Honorable Mention in the STN Film Excellence award show. This is the first time CB has placed in this competitive film festival.
In celebration of 150 years, Christian Brothers High School is proud to present a 150 Theater Showcase on May 2, 2026 in the George Cunningham ’40 Performing Arts Center. This showcase will tell the legacy of Chrsitian Brothers in Sacramento featuring performances from outstanding CB artists and performers. Buy your tickets here! th

ATHLETICS
Our first letter of intent signing day of the 2025-2026 school year will take place Tuesday, April 28th at 8 a.m. in the George Cunningham ‘40 Performing Arts Center.
CHRISTIAN BROTHERS HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD
ELIGIBILITY: Athletes who are members of a Capital Valley Conference recognized Varsity Team are eligible for the award Freshmen are not eligible as the athlete must have at least one year of grades, beginning with the 9th grade Athletes must finish the season in good standing. Athletes must have a cumulative 3.50 GPA (or above) weighted grade point average as well as a current 3.5 (or above) weighted GPA. The cumulative GPA is based on cumulative grades of Semesters from 9th grade onward. Athletes are awarded a Scholar-Athlete patch for each sport season for which they qualify.

On Saturday, March 14th, the CB community gathered for our “A Night to Remember” Auction & Gala - and it was nothing short of extraordinary The evening was filled with joy, connection, and an incredible spirit of generosity that reminded us just how special this community truly is. Because of the amazing support from our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and guests, we raised more than a half million dollars to support education and tuition assistance for our students. These gifts open doors, create opportunity, and make a lasting difference in the lives of all of our youth.
A heartfelt thank you to all - especially our generous sponsors who helped make this milestone celebration possible We are grateful to Capital Pediatrics – The Khaira Family, Greg ’65 & Carole Kassis – Country Club Lanes, and Medic Ambulance –Pierson, McBride & Whaley Families for their incredible support.
