Welcome to the 23rd Edition of the Westway Farms Bull Sale.

As you know, we are a family-run operation, and we are proud to present this year’s offering of Simmental, Angus, and SimAngus Bulls selling on Tuesday, March 3 at the farm. Raising a cow herd is similar to raising a kid - it takes a village. A village of people who help in all aspects - from breeding to calving to feeding to marketing. We are so grateful to have so many great people in our village!! We sincerely appreciate the support of our family, customers, neighbours and staff who have helped build this program over the years.

We truly believe our program and genetics on offer has grown in quantity and quality over the past half decade. Increasing culling parameters on an individual performance basis, with a June to August grass ADG minimum, along with meeting August 1st and September 1st weight requirements, has resulted in an extremely uniform group of bulls on offer. Our philosophy is pretty simple and can be quickly summed up by trying to create low maintenance, hands free mother cows that provide steer calves with length and muscle that weigh up at weaning, and heifer calves that will have above average maternal attributes and have value in a replacement pen. A quote from Tom Lasater that sums up our beliefs is; “The cattle business is a simple business. The only problem is keeping it simple”. Our crew firmly believes that it is easier to maintain balance than to try and achieve it.

The cattle market is as strong as we have seen in years and the demand for quality feeder and replacement cattle is strong. This creates an excellent opportunity to invest in proven genetics that enhance productivity, efficiency, and profitability in your herd. The bulls in this sale have been developed with

an emphasis on fertility, structural integrity, performance and disposition - all traits that will pay in today’s market and into the future.

We invite you to review our offering and if it works we would love for you to stop by the farm and tour the bulls and have a visit prior to the sale. If you are unable to view the bulls, attend the sale or even bid on DLMS and wish to have someone bid for you, we ask you to contact the Westway Crew or the Westway Sale Team and they will be happy to assist you in getting the right Westway bull for your program.

2025 was another good year on the farm. The highlight of course is the safe arrival of Andie and Bill’s daughter, Miss Braylee Rae Schmidt in November. She is a beauty. By the time you receive this catalogue we should also have welcomed another grandbaby as Leah and Will are awaiting the arrival of their new baby!! Nanny Carol and Papa Tom are in heaven loving all the grandkids and going with Carter, Cal and Conlen to their hockey games, dance recitals, gymnastic competitions, 4-H shows, baseball games, soccer games and of course playing stick hockey with Traig after he sings the Canadian anthem. Life is so good and we feel so blessed!!!

Westway Farms stands behind their bulls and will ensure that customers are handled in a professional manner if an incident may occur. Please contact one of the Westway representatives immediately if there is any issue with your bull purchase as we can provide you with a bull to breed your cows. All animals will carry a standard breeding guarantee as specified by the Canadian Simmental Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animals.

CATALOGUE INFORMATION The bulls are listed in the catalogue by sire and colour. All the bulls have been parents or sire verified. Polled and coat colour tests have also been done and are listed in the catalogue under each bull. The EPD’s are current and up-to-date as of publication date. Information in this document is believed to be accurate. If there are any additional updates, the information will be provided on the Westway Farms website and on the WFL Sale Day supplement sheets. DELIVERY & BOARD

Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as the bull is sold. Bulls staying at the ranch after the sale will be required to be insured. Westway Farms offers free delivery to central points in Western Canada. Bulls may be kept at the farm free of charge until May 1st. All bulls will be scheduled to be delivered by May 1st unless alternative arrangements are made. Sale bulls picked up by Friday March 6th will be given $200 credit toward your bull purchase(s).

All bulls sell in their entirety, although Westway Farms reserves the right to collect semen on any bull that is offered in the sale for in herd use only. The semen collection will be at Westway’s expense, and the buyer’s convenience.

DEVELOPMENT BULL program

Through the summer months the cattle grazed alongside their mothers by breed. The Simmental bulls only had creep feed for the last three weeks prior to weaning when the pasture quality started to decrease in August. The Angus bulls did not receive any creep feed as we believe they are in good enough shape pre weaning without it. The bulls were weaned the first few days in September where they were weaned in pens and put on a high forage mixed ration until the bawling was over. Once the bulls were through the weaning process they were put back into large paddocks where they were able to graze cereal silage stubble and were supplemented with a high protein, forage based TMR ration. Because of the nice fall and early winter, the bulls weren’t locked into paddocks until we clipped at Christmas time. The bulls have then been maintained on the high protein diet to enhance lean muscle development and to also maximize frame growth. The bulls continue to consume a total mixed ration, made up of straw for dry feed, along with <10% barley grain, and the balance of ration being corn silage. The diet also contains a high quality low inclusion protein supplement from Bullseye Feeds that includes a vitamin and chelated mineral package to help boost the bulls overall health and immunity. The bulls feeding program is not intended to be an industry competition, it is a true test on our bulls ability to convert pounds of feed to pounds of weight gain. The bull’s overall diet is formulated to achieve a 3.0lbs ADG, allowing the bulls to show their true genetic potential. Lower converting bulls get weaned out prior to creating the catalog if their not achieving 3lbs ADG when we take yearling weights in early January. The bulls never have their feet trimmed prior to the sale and are semen tested prior to sale as well.

Dam is a young black blaze cow that is good sized with added length.

• She sold an awesome black baldy bull through the sale last year to the Eluiyk family (2025). Myiah Eluiyk helps us at the farm and all her hard work is greatly appreciated by us all!

We wish her all the best as she finishes grade 12 as she pursues her studies at the University of Saskatchewan.

Dam 9120G is one of the nicest looking black cows on the place. She is powerful, yet flawlessly constructed as she ties it together with a great feminine and maternal look. The Moen family had purchased her heifer calf out of the Female Sale Of The Decade last August (2024)
