It’s time for the 5th annual Van de Velde and Guests Bull Sale, welcome. The consignors are a hard-working group that have brought you the best product that I think they have ever produced. I have watched as each of these consignors consistently try and buy the best possible genetics they can over the past few years. I can attest that they have been critical of structure, fertility, calving ease, performance, foot and udder quality. I can also confirm that every animal that I have bought from these consignors has been well received by the purchaser and has surpassed their expectations.

The Van de Veldes, Max and Jared work hard and play hard, very balanced. If you know them, you know this is very true. Their cow herd is very similar, they are a hardworking bunch that is not coddled or pampered…they work, day in and day out. The balance comes in some calving ease and some power too to give those heavy steers come fall. They sold a top-notch heifer bull and retained some straws for in herd use, these bulls are going to turn some heads, don’t miss out. The Van de Veldes have been buying the best possible bull power that they can afford, in some cases this means partnering up with fellow producers to share the newest genetics possible. A move I think is going to pay off big time, and you should take advantage of it.

The Southam Simmentals and daughter (Breezy Ridge) have brought another strong group to this years sale. I know many farmers have kept heifers back with the intent of cashing in on this high calf market. Take a really, really hard look at the calving ease on these bulls... I’m not a huge EPD man but I do look at the CE and BW a lot. Usually when I’m looking for TRUE CALVING EASE, I need a CE higher than 10 and a low BW number. I don’t see one of their bulls with a CE number below 10, please check it out. Another outstanding quality of their bulls is the temperament, it’s obvious that they are from quiet moms and have been walked through a lot.

Delight Simmentals has been in the business a long time. Gordon, (Gordie) is a well-liked breeder. He has always been meticulous on udder quality and teet placement on the heifers he buys or keeps. Whenever I look at a bull for Gordie he asks about the mother, and udder quality. Gordie has some cows with power and that translates to bulls with power too. He also has two year olds on offer that enables you to cover more cows the first year.

This is an online sale but all the bulls will be at the Van de Veldes for viewing. Drop by for a relaxed viewing experience and enjoy some hospitality before hand or during the sale. Sale starts on the 17th and closes the evening of the 18th.

VIEWING THE BULLS SALE DAY

Bulls will be available for viewing at Van de Velde Cattle ranch from Sunday March 15th to Wednesday March 18th. Please join us for beef on a bun Wednesday March 18th with refreshments to follow through out the day.

IN-HERD USE SEMEN RIGHTS

Van de Velde/Delight/Southam reserve the right to collect semen for in herd use only on any bull in our sale. Semen would be collected at our expense and buyers convenience.

Welcome to the 5th annual Van de Velde Cattle & guests online bull sale. We are very proud to be working with these two great consignors once again this year and very excited about this set of bulls on offer. I believe this is the deepest and most consistent set of bulls we have put together in the five years we’ve been doing this bull sale, it’s a very exciting time in the cattle industry and extra pounds on the steers matter now more then ever. This year our bulls were weaned September 2nd and have been on a TMR ration made up of corn silage, hay silage, and a prepared pellet supplement from Bullseye feeds.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DLMS FARM GATE TIMED AUCTION WITH EXTENDED BIDDING:

1. Visit www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/ REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minute if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 6 PM will extend the sale by 5 minutes from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Within 24 hours of the sale close the Sale Manager, will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/Pick up of your lot.

WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

Welcome to the 5th Van De Velde & Guests online bull sale.

This year my offering has 2, two year old bulls, a polled PB and a horned FB. The polled PB was halter broke and shown at Ag-Ex in Brandon last fall. Also in our selection is 7 yearling polled red/red blaze face bull. 3 are homo polled, with the rest homo polled test pending.

When selecting and deciding who should become a bull, I am not only looking at the bull himself, but also his dam. Her temperament, structural soundness, and udder quality must be good.

All bulls have been vaccinated as calves, again at weaning. They will be vaccinated again when semen tested, including for footrot.

We offer for your appraisal a strong collection of polled bulls comprised of proven and progressive genetics. AI sired bulls by OLF Otis Y43 and SVS Rancher 42H complement the selection sired by our past and current herd bulls– MCR Mr Knox 21K, Circle G Intell 47J and WLB Gangster 539G. The bulls have been gently developed on a 14% bull grower ration under the guidance of Terry Fehr with Trouw Nutrition. They are on a full herd health program and will have had spring vaccinations – including Fusoguard – prior to the sale. Our bulls are handled regularly and are quiet. Whether your search is for calving ease or performance, there is a bull that will meet or exceed your herd bull requirements.
