Genomically Enhanced EPDs or GEPDs Genomically enhanced EPDs (GEPDs) are important because they utilize genomic test results in addition to pedigree, performance, and progeny data for increased reliability of an animal’s EPD. Genomic testing is one more tool for breeders to use to predict the future performance of animals more accurately. This is not a replacement for performance data recording. Genomic, test results are used to enhance predictability of current selection tools, to achieve more accuracy on EPDs for younger animals, and to characterize genetics for traits that are difficult or expensive to measure, such as feed efficiency, carcass traits in breeding stock or maternal traits in bulls. The main benefit of genomically enhanced EPDs is the increase in accuracy.

Vaccination Programs: All livestock are on the Express Verified Program. The calves are vaccinated and bolstered with Pyramid FP5 + Presponse SQ and with Fermicon 7/Somnugen. All breeding females are given an annual shot of Express FP5 VL5 prior to breeding, and a Scour Boss shot prior to Calving. The sale bred heifers have had their initial shot of Scour Boss 9 and are due for their booster on Feb 1st. Parasite Control: Solmectin. All females have been preg checked and dated by a certified veterinarian. Those dates are a best estimate and not a 100% guarantee. Heifers are sold as pasture exposed.
Cattle Nutrition: At Richmond Ranch our goal is to develop the cattle for Longevity and success in any program. The females are grown out and maintained on a high-quality forage diet, a mixture of barley, soft white wheat and corn silage in the winter. They spend as much time as possible out grazing in the hills, spring, summer and fall. We have always sought strongly for – Do it themselves Ranch cows that can not only maintain condition while grazing the hills but raise a calf and bring in the pounds in the fall. The cow herd utilizes a custom Bullseye mineral program that is balanced throughout the year, under the guidance of Doug Roxburgh. Organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune function and overall health, whether they are calves, bred heifers, or mature cows.
