Time flies when you are having fun and working with an exceptional group of breeders and friends. Its hard to believe that this is the 10th Annual OPT bull sale. While the venue has changed, and we have moved to a video sale, the quality, variety and desire to produce functional bulls has always stayed at the forefront.
This year we are beyond proud of the bull pen. They are the most uniform group we have raised and have something that will appeal to every program. Not to mention they are the most docile and easy to work with group.
The Tommy Gunns are quite an exciting group, and with 15 top end bulls to analyze you can really admire the consistency in which he breeds and the style, thickness and muscle expression that he stamps all his progeny with. Owens has proven himself in the past couple years to be of the most consistent calving ease bulls we have used. Not only does he calve exceptionally easy, but his progeny hit the ground running and explode into dark, hairy, thick bulls and heifers alike that easily make their way to the keeper pen.
On the full blood side of things we are once again thrilled with the way Oakview Hank works in our heifer pen as well as moderating birth weight on some big powerful fall bred cows.
Oakview Dignitary has 3 thick, cookie cutter embryo bulls in the sale. She’s a cow that we can’t say enough about as she puts females and bulls alike at the top of the pen.
We look forward to seeing all of our past, present and potential customers on March 16th at the farm for the 10th Anniversary OPT Sale. As always, feel free to stop by the farm at your convenience prior to the sale to check out the bull pen.

Another year has passed and another chapter of the OPT Bull sale is upon us. As many of you know we had our second OPT female sale in mid December. It was a huge success and we would like to thank those of you that supported us in bidding or buying the bred females we had on offer.
The Collins family is always great hosts for us as a group for the bull sale. Its seems like yesterday we were all scratching our heads as to how we were going to set up pens, water, and put the whole sale together. Now after 6 years at the farm, it’s just like clockwork; it seems to come together with very little effort.
Our bull pen as always has a variety of top quality bulls for you to choose from. Whether you are looking for a top performance bulls or a moderate bw bull to use on your summer calving group or even a few low birth wt bulls that you can confidently use in a heifer pen, there will be a hairy young fella for you to choose.
Our bulls are developed on a TMR balanced ration; consisting of grass hay, corn silage, S01 oats and a protein pellet. We target moderate level gains so these bulls are fed to last and remain fertile. As cattle producers we realize not every animal works for everyone and we will look after our customers in a prompt and fair manner. We always keep some extra bulls and spares for customers to use if breeding season is not going optimal.
Once again the OPT group is pleased to work with the staff of BOHRSON Marketing. First and foremost we appreciate the professionalism of the crew and we have confidence they will treat our customers in such a way that they feel they were looked after in a personal and trusted manner. If you are unable to attend the sale in person feel free to give any of them a call. If you prefer to bid online, Melissa will be at the sale with DLMS.ca, for user friendly online bidding.
Thanks for the interest in our breeding program. Please feel free to stop in at the farm anytime to view the bull before the sale.

When the opportunity arose after the famed Rplus dispersal to own a portion of 3007A we jumped at the chance. She is the dam of the prolific breeding bull Rplus Yuma. We flushed her to 5015C and have this bull along with a couple jaw dropping heifers as a result. Mesa is a full sibling to Yuma. He has an incredible profile; a proud bull that likes to show himself off. He is one of the deepest ribbed bulls we have in the pen, balanced in his lines and free moving. His straight black hair pops adding dimension to a near perfect phenotype. Top 10% of the breed for ww and yw is no surprise; he was certainly the easy pick of the black bulls on pasture this summer. We look forward to seeing what this high performance bull can do for his new owner.

We were really excited to acquire a semen package on this Red Top 108L bull. We thought he was a great combination of Alpha’s calving ease and performance along with the big Skors flush cow. We felt he would add a touch of frame to our cow herd. He has bred extremely well for us; both heifers and bulls look to be top quality. As you can see by his picture, this bull is extremely long, and square hipped. A heavy hair coat is an added value. You can really see the Bentley influence in this calf, I must say this was an outstanding breeding decision. Have a good look at the epd profile; high percentiles on most traits, calving and performance. The dam of the following bull is the grand dam to this guy. You can see the consistency; this branch of the massive doll cow family is outstanding. No matter if this guy breeds commercial cows or is put into a purebred herd he will undoubtedly make his mark.

Many of my comments on the previous bull apply to this beast. Mellow middle, hairy, nice skulled. You can see the similarities in these bulls and their sire 108L. We like to think we had a part in breeding that bull as he goes back to PERKS Red Wolf. A bull that gives us a lot of pride in seeing what he has done in the industry. We look forward to keeping as many daughters from this bulls dam as we can. Its cows and cow families like this that you can bank on to work for you year in and year out.

When this bull went to pasture and came off of pasture I knew we had something pretty special. There is no other way to describe this bull than soggy. He has that loose hide, soft side look that we want in our bulls. His deep red dam is asset; the “75” cow family has really started to take off with some of our favorite cows. A nice square udder, feminine, angular cow that we can count on. This bull is square on his wheels and moves very freely. He looks to have good testicle development. Check out his epd profile, CE and Performance, what curve bending bulls are all about. We are certainly going to use 108L in our herd again next year and are taking serious consideration in drawing semen on Notorious for in herd use.

Next level will certainly go out and sire some top calves. His dam is a favorite Bentley daughter that is off of the famous Cuddles cow. No guess work here, keep every daughter. It is no secret that Bentley reduced frame, but we are think 108L had added the right amount back in. This spring I’m going to try to breed the Bentley cows to 108L. The combination has worked so very well.

HOMO POLLED
Nashville and New York are ET siblings. A flush of Cuddles 2C resulted in these bulls as well as two heifers that look to be very good. Cuddles is a massive bodied well put together cow with a great foot and flawless udder. Nashville is slightly bigger than New York but both a rugged heavy muscled bulls. We are still selling calves by the pound and these guys have the market cornered on weaning heavy calves. Moderate birth weights in both for the growth and performance that they have. Take this pair of studs home and reap the benefits of true performance bulls.

POLLED HETERO BLACK

POLLED BLACK PUREBRED BPG1530461 - PLCC 568N - 9/1/2025

BEE OMEGA 119L
Here we have the first of 4 Omega sons in the sale. We had very good success breeding Omega to our first calf heifers. They came early and they were reasonable in BW. Delta was extremely early in fact 19 days. He is out of a very nice Black Baldy Bentley daughter. She is a direct daughter of 83B, the X-T cow that we think so highly of. Lots of calving ease in the cow family and we feel this bull will certainly be a safe bet to breed heifers.

BEE OMEGA 119L PERKS SASHA 127L

Beta will truly be a fantastic heifer bull. He is so smooth and fine headed. His dam is a young Captain Blaze heifer that we see producing some big time progeny for us. Moderate framed and in a black white faced package. What a great way to treat your replacement heifers.
POLLED RED PUREBRED PG1530580 - LPKN 2578N - 29/1/2025
BEE OMEGA 119L
LITTLE PERKS RHONDA 1478L
ALPHA 915J
DESTINY 119J
Theta is a dark red bull that most certainly fits the pattern of a heifer bull. Small head and smooth sided. Ultra low birth weight. I bet you have a hard time finding another one like him

I named this bull Jump Start as most of these Omega calf are up quick and hunting down their new mothers. This Omega son comes with an attractive red hide and a white map of Alberta on his face. This dark red bull comes from a typical Bentley daughter with a big rib and perfect udder. It is remarkable how well he stamped his progeny. I really have a strong feeling this bull could go on to be an important breeding piece for the new owner. Red baldies have certainly been popular lately, it’s a fantastic look. Step into this outcross calving ease sire and see what opportunities he holds.

Here is a really hairy beef bull, Raised by a first calf heifer no less. His mother was a high seller at the 2024 SimPower sale. I really wanted to purchase a Sage daughter and she is a beaut. Big bodied and productive. She calved this big brute on her own and raised him to an actual ww of 860lb. Look for him to work well in many breeding scenarios.

I don’t think there is a harder working cow on the farm. A really good combination of Captain Blaze and ol’ Hardrock. The Blundstone sons are all crazy long spined just as Blundstone himself is. This good cow weaned this fella at 910lbs, the second heaviest ww on the farm in 2025. This bull is a dark red structurally correct bull. He is straight in his lines and free moving in his joints. A top red herd sire prospect, I encourage you to analyze these Blundstone calves, they will surely move a breeding program in the right direction.

Named for one of Rick Dequeir’s favorite shows of the 80s….Knight Rider, a bull that I admire. Dark red, long spines, with a cool blaze face. Nina, his Hot Iron dam has been producing some really good females over the past couple of years. The Hot Iron females have expansive rib shape a good strong milky udders that last. We have sold 2 bred heifer thru the OPT sale to Kirk Griffin and Oakview Simmentals, reports have been outstanding on them both. If you are looking for a red blaze faced bull with a good mother cow then I think we found a match.

These two bulls are like peas in a pod. Both are grandsons of the X-T Tracker cow. Both are sired by Blundstone and have come to us in a solid black moderate made package. Docile, heavy haired, nice skulled, with decent neck extension, it’s really hard to pick a hole in these well constructed bulls. Even though Bloodstone has never been known for low birth weight calves, these bulls have bw’s in the 70s. Both of the mothers have low birth calves year after year. That is one of the reason we love the “68” cow family, …you can breed them in so many different ways. Even though we would have preferred these bulls to have blazed faces, we are very excited about these two bulls and their potential as calving ease prospects. Double down and take these guys home together, it’s a sure fire winning scenario.

POLLED RED PUREBRED

A moderate red bull with a manly presence, low birth weight and good performance. Look for this February calf to mature into a good strong individual. His dam is a moderate red baldy that goes back to one of my favorite On Target x Doll cows.

The youngest bull we have on offer. This March calf is one to have a look at. Many spring calvers won’t need a bull until July and this guy will still be 16 months old. He has as much potential as any January calf in the sale. His dam came from the WLB dispersal and has proven to be a good producer. Daughters have sold to Kevin Wood, and Murray Burton.
77 Gus 1015N

OH Gus. He is a bit of a farm favorite. His docile nature and striking black and white markings got him lots of pets and cuddles around the barn last year. He is likely one of the biggest performance bulls we have ever raised. The 108L performance really came thru with this cow. Let him loose with a group of cows and watch the armored trucks roll in with cash from his calf crop

HOMO POLLED
Here is a bull with a little extra look. Hairy, extra bone, and a gentlemanly personality. But that likely comes from his mother, I bought her from Prairie Wind Simmentals at the virtual Covid Shades sale. A big bodied deep red female who highlighted the 2021 PTSA sale selling her Captain Blaze sired bred heifer to MAVV Simmentals for $15,000. His moderate bw and stout look should garner him some friends on sale day.

HOMO POLLED - HETERO BLACK
Another good Contender son. He sure stamps them with extremely correct structure, foot quality, and exceptional disposition. We had the misfortune of losing Contender to injury this past summer. His daughter and sons really are quite good. We were pleased to sell 5 outstanding daughter of Contender in the 2025 OPT Bred for Success sale to Rockin’ G, Beechinor Simmentals, Mader Ranches, Todd Simmentals and Oakview Simmentals. For an average of just over $12,000. This son is a good deep bodied nice hind quartered bull. He should go out and sire some well put together calves, keep the daughters; the doll cow family never fails.

BEE CONTENDER 594K
NINA 515C

Night Hawk is a good long sided bull that should give you peace of mind calving to mature cows. His dam has always brought a degree of calving ease to her progeny. The “15” cow family feature many big bodied easy fleshing cows that produce consistent functional cattle.
BEE CONTENDER 594K
BELLA 306H
Nike comes from a cow with a pedigree that screams calving ease: Triple Play x Captain Blaze. An angular feminine cow that has load of milk in a very well constructed udder. This dark red fella would be a great candidate to use on second calvers. His epd profile leans towards small born calves with moderate growth. Nike…. “Just do it”!
BEE CONTENDER 594K
BOPEEP 21H
Much like the bull above; this dark red bull had a good mix of calving and moderate performance. His dam came from Simmsational several years ago; she is a consistent breeder and has always given us that deep red color we strive to get. This bull has loads of hair and a good foot. Look for him to sire a consistent deep red group of calves that you will be proud to put in a replacement pen or group of steers to top the market.

HOMO POLLED
The picture of this bull tells the tale. He is long spines and well balanced. When Cody purchased Contender for us, we were looking to produce bulls just like this. Nothing extreme, structurally correct, good functional bulls that could go out and service cows for the commercial producer. As we calve out Contenders first daughter and selling this group of sons, we are truly disappointed that we lost him to injury last summer.

HOMO POLLED
Performance Bull here. The idea of the bazillion dollar fullblood bull Rumble crossed with the famous Flirt cow family was intriguing to me. If you are looking for a performance bull look no further. A larger framed dark red bull that gets out and moves. He really crushes the scale with an adj YW of 1600lbs. Three full sisters highlighted the SimPower sale last fall, averaging over $16,000. An extra 100lbs on your calves in the fall from this guy is easily $10,000 bonus on 20 steer calves. Math never lies.

POLLED BLACK PUREBRED BPG1531109

HOMO POLLED - HETERO BLACK
A smaller framed black baldy that will add some style to your calves. His dam has been a good producer and we have several daughters in our herd.

POLLED RED PUREBRED PG1530701 - PLCC
HOMO POLLED
Another dark red bull that really puts it all together. He has loads of hair, a nice foot and good neck extension. These Wichita calves have a good degree of calving ease. His Westcott dam has a very good udder and is super docile. If you are looking for a bull that will be easy to work with, this is your guy.

87 Nexus 127N PERKS
HOMO POLLED - HETERO BLACK
Look for this guy to be a good female producer. The Sasha cow is a milky long bodied cow. The Loyalty females have a great look and top quality udders. A black bull that is worth a second look.

Welcome once again to the 10th annual OPT Bull Sale . Big thank you to all our past buyers/bidders who supported us for the past decade .
