The North Country Select Ranch and Performance Horse Sale Inc. was established in 2023 by Matt Rustemeier and Brian Griffith. Collectively, Matt and Brian have 50 years' experience in the horse industry, specifically in training and selling horses. Their passion to ensure those shopping for quality horses could do so with confidence, sparked the idea for a select sale. The North Country Select Ranch & Performance Horse Sale application process relies on 9 essential criteria for scoring and selecting horses. Each horse must demonstrate their skills in front of a committee of industry professionals. Only the horses that meet or surpass the requirements for soundness, conformation, disposition and training are selected. All horses are vet-checked for soundness the day before the North Country Select Ranch & Performance Horse Sale. Consigned horses will showcase their skills (ranch horse, reining, cow horse, roping, etc.) in a preview just before the sale. Horses will be on offer via live auction and online through DLMS (Direct Livestock Marketing System).

Cache Phenom Intensify aka ‘Oliver’. He is a 5 year old purebred Canadian by Delavoye Heros Phenom out of Cache Jetson Sable. We have owned Oliver since he was a weanling and done our best to make him a versatile ranch horse. The breed descends from horses sent to Canada by King Louis XIV of France starting in 1665, combining royal blood with working breeds. For centuries, they bred in isolation, developing traits to survive harsh Canadian winters and limited feed, becoming essential for farming, transport, and work. Declared the official national horse of Canada in 2002, it is a heritage breed with deep roots in Canadian history. Oliver is proving his roots true given his good bone/ feet, impressive strength and agility. At 15hh and approx 1100 pounds he is strong yet agile with a good stop, turnaround, rollback, and other basic reining maneuvers but has the fancy movement during haunches in, two track, etc to make him a good Western dressage candidate. Oliver has been in ranch rodeos, ranch roped, pasture roped(will tie off), roped the sled and started on cattle out of the box(head and heel). "Shoresy" is a 2017 grullo gelding that stands 15’2. This horse has great feet and bone; he has mainly been ridden barefoot, but will be shoed for the sale. Shoresy is very well started on the head side in the arena. He is quiet in the box, always runs right to the hip of the cow, and is very strong on the horn! Shoresy's strong work ethic no doubt came from his ranch background. In the branding pen he is quiet and confident and this big guy has no issues dragging calves to the fire all day. He walks into the herd quiet and calm, making him a pleasure to ride on branding day! He has doctored cattle in the open and is good either with help, or if you're the only one doctoring. Docs Dually Diva is a stout made young mare with an exceptional mind, a solid foundation, and the kind of disposition that makes her enjoyable to ride every day. Started as a 3 year old by Sarah Sitko, she has consistently shown herself to be quiet minded, willing, and very accepting of new situations and environments. She has had a rope swung off her since the beginning of her training and has had the dummy roped on her, which she handles confidently and quietly. Last fall she spent a month being ridden at the Clyde Auction Mart again by Sarah, where she handled the busy atmosphere extremely well while continuing to show natural cow sense and a level headed attitude. “Chandler” has been with me since I started him as a long 2yo. He has been brought along consistently since then. I have given him a month or two off and he carries on just like you left him. He has always been safe and reliable. He has been rode outside extensively and in the arena, and I believe he has done more already than horses twice his age. He has been to a lot to brandings, you can doctor on him, tie off, and then carry on in a soft ground covering walk. He will swing a 8 foot rein and walk with the best of em. I started heeling off him last winter and he took to it right away. Stands like a soldier in the box , rates cattle well and has all the run you need in one. He’s a hard stopper and rates the corner and cattle well with how cowy he is. He has a soft eye , great conformation and looks good doing whatever you want with him. 9 year old Striking Azteca Gelding. Lusitano x QH. On his Lusitano side he is a grandson of Uniname Da Broa one of the most sought after Lusitanos. On his Quarter horse side he boasts strong ranching/cow lines with Solanos peppy San on his papers. And going back to greats such as Mr San Peppy, Two Eyed Jack, Hancock, the Ole Man and Three Bars. Natalio stands 16hh he’s a quiet gentle guy. We have had the pleasure of riding him for 4 years now. We started him with a foundation in Classical Dressage. Natalio knows shoulder in, haunches in, Leg yield, correct leads and has a nice uphill lope. He was shown in Western Dressage Virtual shows 2 years in a row with the Western Style Dressage Association of Canada. He ended each year top of his category or reserve. Along with Arena work Natalio has been used on the ranch doing various jobs. Form Gathering and sorting, pushing cows up the mountain and through thick steep bush in the summers to weaning and shipping time. He has done a couple trips to Alpine peaks of 7800ft. And handles the steep shale trails like a champ. This spring he has gone to a few brandings and was quiet in the trap. But he’s not the cowiest and he didn’t like to pull. He ropes the heelomatic and has come out of the box with it. He has headed and held cows on range. Good with dragging tires and logs in the arena. Not bothered by the rope around his legs or butt. Natalios Ideal home would be someone who wants to excel more in the arena be it dressage or Ranch riding shows. And do some trail riding and mountain exploring. Like any horse he does best with a consistent work program. Best suited for A confident intermediate - experienced rider. He’s great to shoe all 4 feet. Cheddar is a 2020 APHA-registered gelding with an outstanding pedigree. He is started in heeling and breakaway roping, with exposure to tie-down roping. He has been used extensively on the ranch for sorting and doctoring cattle, checking fence and handling general ranch work. He has been trail ridden at home and in the Ya-Ha Tinda and he has been used for halter-breaking colts and gathering horses on pasture moves. Chedder has a big stop, locks onto a cow, and shows plenty of expression. He is a classy-looking horse with strong eye appeal and consistently stays behind the bridle with a willing, responsive attitude. We have been hauling him to amateur rodeos throughout the summer. 8 Track is a real pretty 4 year old paperd mare. She stands 14.1 HH straight legs and good feet. 8 Track has seen lots of outside miles from gathering cattle to doctoring in the pasture and been used to drag calves at brandings. We took her to the mountains trail riding for a week this summer, shed did great went anywhere she was asked up or down the mountain and across the rivers. 8 Track is also a started heel horse, has roped the heel o matic lots and is well started on slow steers. We call him Bubba, he is Sired by Holla Famer who is eligible for CBHI and Sask Barrel Bonanza. The mare that he is out of is GB Frenchmans Chrome, this is a mare that I myself have owned since she was three. I have rodeo'd on and won over $12,000 on her between Barrel Racing and Team Roping, She is a very nice versatile mare, that stands 15HH and built thick through the chest with a nice big round hip to her. We have had 3 foals out of this mare now and the two that we had started have all shown a ton of athletic ability bred to different studs. We have owned a couple of the foals sired by Holla Famer and they all come out acting like they are broke, with great dispositions. That stud has produced some very nice competitive horses in the rodeo world from Barrel Racing to Team Roping. He stands 15.2 HH tall.
