BULL SELECTION ASSISTANCE

Purchasing bulls is very important for the direction and production of your cow herd. It is a never-ending search for bull power to improve traits. Being hands on in our breeding program and knowing your cow herd, we would be pleased to assist you in identifying bulls suited for you. We have developed a wide genetic base in our bulls from power bulls to heifer pen orientated, calving ease bulls throughout every segment.

Welcome to our Annual Bull Sale, the day we strive for all year. I think for the last 5 years or so, every bull sale welcome including ours has praised the optimism in this industry. How could we not be any more optimistic than we all are right now. We congratulate the cowman that stuck out the tough years, to cherish the present-day good ones. Sure, there will always be new challenges, but at this time beef is in high demand. We see cultivated acres seeded back to grass. The custom fencing crews are maxed out. The cow herds are again increasing in size and most importantly, young ranchers are invigorated and confident to take up ranching as a full-time career.

I want to thank our family and employees for their dedication to Lewis Farms. Helping uphold and improve the brand we’ve created. Dexter, Lucas, Dean, Tyler, Zac and Lucy and the part-time crew along the way who make this place successful. My sister, Kirbie and her husband Emre welcomed their first baby girl Remi, this time last year. Mom and Dad (Ken and Corrie) traveled to New Zealand this fall. They are both heavily involved and active in the day to day. Roy was able to give us a couple weeks of help through calving. Roy also manages the overall herd health decisions. We are grateful to have Roy in our corner.

We want to acknowledge Lenny Mark and his family. Mark Land and Cattle is a serious force in the fullblood world. We cherish the friendship and partnership with Lenny and his family. Lenny has once again brought a world class pen of bulls; dark pigment, powerful, sound, genetic enhanced fullblood bulls.

Our offering is as cutting edge as ever. With new genetics in all divisions of this sale, while maintaining the same sire groups that our customers depend on. Our goal is always to maintain and improve maternal traits in these bulls, while improving soundness, longevity and performance. It is important for our commercial customers to have a heavy set of steers every fall; they are using Angus and Simmental bulls to improve their cowherds. The decisions we make ultimately affect the pen of replacement heifers our customers are able to retain or sell. This is important to us!

Study the front few pages. We’ve updated the volume discounts and simplified the warranty program to better suit our customers. Between the hard data and comments on the bulls, we’ve tried to supply as much information as possible, while being transparent with our offering.

We are excited to work with Mark Shologan and his crew at DLMS. Bohrson Marketing, Scott and his crew with their help and guidance, not only on sale day but year-round. Jim Pulyk with NLS. Gary Rairdan with SAM. Ryan Dorran and Dan Skeels with their help and guidance. As well,Tom McNeely and Justin Rosaduik with the Bullseye team.

Plan a tour, or if you can’t make it, don’t be afraid to call regarding info on the bulls. See you on the 28th!

FREE DELIVERY & AFTER SALE OPTIONS

Option A: Free delivery will be provided in Western Canada at the convenience of Lewis Farms, Eastern Canada will be cost shared.

Option B: Lewis Farms will keep bulls until May 1, 2026 for no charge. Then by that time the bulls will be picked up unless previous arrangements have been made. Lewis Farms insists all bulls be insured or covered with the Lewis warranty while at Lewis Farms.

Option C: Purchasers wishing to pick up their animals on sale day will receive at $200 discount per bull purchased.

POLLED TESTING

A majority of the red and black Simmental bulls are homozygous polled tested. If it simply says Polled, it is because the bull was not tested. Our herd is over 95% homozygous polled. If we had a heterozygous test, it is illustrated. Homozygous polled represents that the progeny can not have horns irregardless of the dam.

COLOR TESTING

A number of black bulls have been color tested for color expression if not known by parentage. A homozygous black bull will not sire a red calf. A heterozygous black bull could sire a red calf. Full blood bulls marked duluter free have been tested.

US EXPORT

With regards to exporting bulls out of the country or for testing for admission to stud, Lewis Farms will arrange for all the tests, but the cost will be borne by the purchaser.

HEALTH CARE

All bulls to be sold are vaccinated and boostered against; IBR, PI3, BVD (type 1 & 2), BRSV, Histophilus, Mannhaemia, Pasteurella, 8-Way Blackleg. Vaccines given are Vista Once and Vision 8 Somnus. Treatment in the summer (Safeguard) for internal parisites and Saber for fly control. Treatment in the fall with Ivermectin for internal and external parasites.

This comprehension health program allows our bulls to be as healthy as possible and protected against all the common communicable diseases or the core vaccines used in the industry.

Footrot vaccine is given; initial shot January and boostered at semen evaluation time (February). This is indicated on the semen evalution form as footrot vaccine. Please have a close look at the semen evaluation form and any questions don’t hesitate to ask me.

BREEDING SOUNDNESS EVALUATION

We look for 3 factors: Spermatozoal motility, morphology and scrotal circumference as well as doing a physical examination and watching the bulls walk. During collection of semen we closely check the penis and inspect for signs of abnormalities.

All bulls are sold who exceed one year of age will have been classifies as satisfactory in all categories and give us all indications they will go out for you and become good breeding herd bulls. All scrotal measurements will be posted on the supplement sheets.

Deferred on semen bulls will be announced sale day. The only components which are not tested are the libido and the bulls ability to breed. This component is up to you, the purchaser. It is absolutely essential to watch your bull on his first few services to make sure successful breeding is occurring. Any problems or concerns with your purchase(s), please direct back to Lewis Farms and we will check into them for you.

SEMEN RESERVE

Lewis Farms reserves the right to collect semen for in herd use only on any bull in our sale.

It has been a pleasure to assist in the nutrition program for bulls in the 41st annual Lewis Farms Bull Sale. The program starts with a

well balanced year-round mineral program for the mothers of this set of bulls, where organic minerals are used to promote healthy calves, reproductive success, and strong hooves. Taking care of the cows plays a huge role in the setting up the bull calves for success in immune response, reproduction, and longevity for their new owners. All the feed produced on farm is sampled to

allow bulls to maximize forage utilization, while demonstrating their genetic potential. High quality hay, haylage, and corn silage are the pillars in the bull program, as these bulls are transitioned off their dams and onto a high forage ration to promote lean muscle deposition. In the bull premix this year we have included chromium, an essential micromineral that aids in glucose absorption, and helps to improve immune system function and increase protein accretion. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the nutritional program at Lewis Farms. Best of luck to the Lewis family and all the staff with an excellent set of bulls on February 28th.

BURTON SIMMENTAL

Lewis Farms genetics have really worked for us. We run a seedstock operation and have an annual bull sale. Our Ranch sits at 6,900 elevation and the cattle summer up to 9,500+ elevation. They travel long distances to water and feed on the mountain. LFE cattle do what they say they will. More than 80% of our Heifers that are calving this year are sired by LFE Bulls. They are having LFE calves… That says it all.

We have bought bulls from the Lewis’ sight unseen as well as in person at their sale, and we have been very happy with every purchase. The Lewis family is honorable and they put on a good honest auction. We appreciate that you know the bids are real and they aren’t being pulled out of the air. Their ring men really take care of you. Lewis’ make getting our bulls easy, even delivering to us all the way in Utah. We love coming to the sale and being around all of their employees.

I love the cattle business and dealing with Cattlemen. The Lewis Family are some of the best.

PRINS BROTHERS CATTLE

Our farm is a mixed farming operation near Warburg, Alberta. As young farmers, we have been trying to build our herd with the mindset that we must continue to improve quality as well as consistency with each calf crop. Every fall we seem to comment on how far we have come with hopes that next year will be even better. Lewis Farms genetics have been crucial in helping us to achieve those goals. They have been great to work with, and more importantly to learn from, as we continue to improve our program.

Things may have changed over time, but one thing has stayed the same: our goal to produce uniform, marketable and growthy calves. We have been long-time, sight-unseen bull customers of Lewis Farms which has helped us create a strong set of maternal red and black mostly Simmental cows. Lewis Farms consistently has a large selection of extra age bulls available with moderate birth weights and high rate of gain for our needs. We appreciate their friendly, honest and down-to-earth approach, as well as the fact that every bull is delivered straight to the farm gate. We highly recommend their bulls; be sure to check out their sale every February and buy with confidence.

Pocahontas 117F has pursued a pivotal role in our red program. She has created sons that have changed other programs for the better, sons that have contributed to the red Simmental breed and made it better. Her daughters that were kept in-house are some of the best young red cows in our possession.

This is a good opportunity to acquire 4 sons, 2 sets of matings from an elite donor cow. The American reds are big bodied, bigger framed, performance bulls while the Strattons are younger and more moderate.

DOUG HILLER

18,

23,

We lost a great man on December 23rd. A true friend, partner, customer and most importantly buddy for over 40 years. Doug or better known to most as Wally or Walt, was of the strong silent kind. He was an individual dedicated to his family, friends, and anything to do with their farm. Wally lost the love of his life Elaine, back in 2017 to cancer. Wally and Elaine were married in our barn after a fall female sale in 1992. Kyle was

their ring bearer and I stood up for Walt. They moved from south Edmonton to the Devon-Calmar area some years ago, where they built their farm from the ground up. I want to say Wally was the best, you just felt good when he was around. I know when Jack passed, Wally came by and his presence was truly calming. What has inspired and kept Wally going the last while has been the news of Wyatt and Carleigh having a child this spring. Fair well my friend, may you rest in peace.

AND + CATT LE

I welcome you to the annual Lewis Farms Bull Sale. This year marks my sixteenth year selling fullblood bulls at Lewis Farms. Again I want to thank the Lewis family for their continued support. To my loyal customers, I also want to thank them for their commitment and support of my bulls on offer each year.

Building friendships along the way and being able to help complement ones cowherd is first and foremost on the list. This years offering consists of a few heifer bulls, some polled genetics and also power-driven bulls. The longer I am doing this, the more I believe in great cow families. As you can see with some of the donor cows I have, the consistency is second to none in the bulls. The bulls out of these females should produce top end cows for my customers.

I encourage everyone that can to visit the bull farm at Lewis Farms to see the bulls in person. If unable to get there, the videos of the bulls will be available mid-February. If you have any questions about the offering, please feel free to call me at 780 842-7207. I look forward to seeing everyone Feb. 28.

P.S. My grandsons, Wilder and Bryden, have given me so much love and joy. Both learned to say “Papa” so each got a bred heifer for Christmas. Both boys love riding in the tractor with Papa and looking at cows already. Hopefully my love of cows is being passed down to them.

KOTOWICH EVERGREEN FARMS LTD

Dedication, commitment, and true quality rise to the top when you describe the Lewis Farms Bull Sale. For the past 16 years, the Mark Land & Cattle operation near Irma, Alberta, has consistently supplied front-end, top-notch leading genetics in the Fullblood division. Their program offers power bulls, bulls with strong maternal traits, as well as both horned and polled bulls, including heifer bulls.

Lenny does one hell of a job supplying cow-calf operations with bulls that truly meet the needs of the industry. With a clear focus on raising the bar higher each and every year in the Fullblood sector, it has been impressive to watch where this program started 16 years ago and where it stands today as an elite seedstock producer in the Simmental world.

Having used Lewis Farms bulls and Mark Land & Cattle genetics for over 30 years here at Kotowich Evergreen Farms, these genetics have played a major role in shaping the cow herd we have today. Once again, thank you to Mark Land & Cattle and Lewis Farms for your dedication to the beef sector and to cow-calf producers.

Have a great sale!

RICHARD (Dick) GARDEN

Sept. 22, 1949 – March 31, 2025

We lost Digger Dick early this spring. What can one say about a man who has put in a 55 year shift riding for one brand, Simply Remarkable! Dick was a prominent leader for us at Lewis Farms, working with 3 generations of Lewis’s. A man gifted with not only incredible work ethic and determination but talent in many areas. Dicks interest in the horticultural world, whether it was potatoes, trees and basically

anything that grows was not only his interest but a passion. His ability to understand animals and their behavior was another gift. Dick was born and grew up in Jarvie, North of Westlock. He finished high school and moved on to Olds College to pursue a Horticulture degree. Being close to his large family of siblings, Dick was considered his Mothers favorite, I didn’t find that out until his celebration of life last fall. We have all been very blessed at Lewis Farms to have Richard Garden enhance our lives. Dick may you rest in peace, something you very much deserve.

WOODROW “Woody”

September 1, 2012 – July 27, 2025

Woody was more than just a dog — he was family.

He loved the simple things: long naps, playing mini sticks, and being wherever his people were. He was Ken’s loyal truck partner, always ready for the next ride, and a constant companion to the kids, offering comfort, laughs, and unconditional love.

Woody had a way of making our home feel fuller and our days better just by being there. His presence was steady, his love endless, and his place in our family irreplaceable.

Woody never miss a sale, he somehow always snuck out of the house and was always present.

Though he is deeply missed, the memories, paw prints, and love he left behind will stay with us forever.
